( the comments said here are those of my opinion only)
Remember in my recent blog about how I said becareful what you say on the internet.

Well I don't know if you guys are aware of this story, but this could effect the way you post if this lawyer wins his case.

Taking Liberties: A lawsuit worthy of a Google search
http://www.foxnews.com/us/2012/01/26...google-search/

This story involves a lawyer, the net, and perhaps his shady past.

Anyways hes suing his ex girlfriends for defamation and slander. Sounds like your regular run in the mill kind of case right?
That is until we get into the depth of this suit.

It involves the net and comments made on the laywer when you do a web search for his name.
The first thing to come up is a cheaters site about him.
He claims that the womens harsh comments have cost him clients along with other personal
damages. That what there saying about him is false.

Now key word earlier I said perhaps shady past to be fair to the man since I don't personaly know him.
I belive every person has the right to defend themselves .

Mr. Matthew Couloute . I'm humbly sorry to hear about your unfortunate situation..but it is in my opinion that you must lose your case. Heres why I just said that.

This is where my "unintended consequences" talk comes into play regarding this story.

We've seen it on the news with cyber bulling.
We already have people trying/already have pass laws to combat cyber bulling. Yet whats intended for good isn't always so. It is a double edged sword.

Lets say this case goes in his favor.... Then from now on people online would have to be very careful of what they about others.

How much can you say?
Well thats for courts to decide further down the line if it does win.
We can't have any "untruths" about a person..even if they are indeed proven true.
There only words on a computer screen talking about someone else.

Seriously how can you prove it?
How can you not prove it?
Who wrote em to begin with?
Ready to go to court to defend your right to say it or prove you didn't ?
Good luck on that because courts after all cost money. Lots of money!

Whatever happened to the old saying:
"Sticks and stones may break my bones, but words will never hurt me."

Guess in this day in age that may be a saying in the past.

I don't think he will win though. It would encroach on too many people's personal freedoms and choices. Yet again just consider and ask what if he does?

I know I know i'm about to catch the flak here but..only time will tell because in this case its true since the case will be decided later this year. And even if it does its still has a ways to go if appealed. So prepare for possible follow ups. lol

What do you guys think about this story? Feel free to comment.

* UPDATE!! 2/20/12*
I saw on the news today that the lawyer did indeed lose this lawsuit. Another blog to talk about this situation will be aviable soon.
