Morning Musume rocks! I just got into their music a few days ago and I must say I love it! Does anyone know of any of their songs that are really good? I must listen to more of their music!! ^___^

This past Thursday, Morning Musume held their New Years day special.

First was the giant hula hoop contest. As some of you know a year ago, Nozomi broke the world record for hula hooping with a 12.5m hoop and even recieved a certificate for it. But unfortunately some loser decided to break her record only a short time afterwards with a 12.6m hoop and eventually did. So this time, Nono decided to challenge that record. Aside from Nono herself, others stepped up to the challenge as well. Only Aibon, Nono, and Miki managed to tie the current record of 12.6m. Then Nono went for the 12.7m hoop and succeeded in beating the world's record. But then Aibon challenged it with a 12.8m hoop and broke the record! But since no one anticipated it to go this far, they didn't make a 12.9 hoop, so Nono decided just try and tie the record and of course she did it. Which meant that both Aibon & Nono will share the record on the next Guinness world's records book.

The finale of the special was a doozy! It featured Aya Matsuura in her Princess Ayaya get-up from the show, "Tintin town" doing a daring escape trick.

Here is the setup : they constructed this giant structure that kinda looked like a lift-off station, kinda like the ones used to launch rockets into space. Anyway, this thing was approximately 8-9 meters tall which was connected by a tube to an "escape ship". The trick would be that Ayaya would be inside this box that was gonna be hoisted up onto the structure. Inside the box, Aya would be strapped down with 10 different combination locks and she has to escape in 5 minutes time. Simple enough, huh? Oh yes, I forgot to tell you : for every minute that passes, parts of the structure will blow-up. So she only has 5 minutes before the whole thing topples and she's a goner.

And so it began : Ayaya goes in the box and is strapped down with these combination locks with a 4 digit combo, 10 altogether including one on the door where she has to get out. She was then shown all the combinations to the locks and she only had a minute to memorize them all before she was hoisted up. Once she has memorized all the combos, the box is then sealed shut and hoisted up to the structure. The host as well as four others watched on as the box was hoisted up. There was also a camera set up inside the box where aya was in to watch her escape.

Then with a phone call from the host to Ayaya and ask her if she was ready, the escape began. It took Aya a while to get her arms free, then the first explosion began. She was startled by it but kept on going. Duriing this time we can see members of MM watch nervously from inside the studio, Miki was even biting her fingernails. As Aya successfully unlock a few more locks, the second explosion went off that sent flames up the structure. Then after another minute, the third set of explosives blew up. At this point she has only managed to unlock 6 of the locks. And then something went wrong : the door to which lead to the tube which she had to escape from bursts into flames (of course Aya doesn't know this as she continued to free herself.). But then as she got stuck with one of the locks, the tube that was suppose to be her only escape blew up! The whole thing started to burn out of control and the camera inside the box blew-out. The host hit the kill-switch to stop the trick, but it was too late as 2/3rd's of the structure collapses and crashes to the ground, leaving the box Aya was in dangling in mid-air with her still inside! Firefighters were trying to put it out but the fire is spreading towards the box. By this time we can see Aya's fingers trying to open the door but she couldn't because of the bars place outside of it which she had to lift out with a stick (I guess she forgot about it). The hosts were screaming to do something and from inside the studio, the girls were going nuts with fear.

Then the unthinkable happened : the rope that held the box snapped and the box plummeted to the ground in a ball of flames! Everybody freaked! The MM girls were crying , TakaAi was even yelling a the firefighters to hurry and do something. The fire fighters managed to put out the flames as the host goes over to the box to see if Aya was okay. But when he got there, he said that nobody is inside!

As everybody is wracked with confusion, music started to play over the loud speakers and these four guys dressed in some type of shiek clothing came out with a huge golden blanket. They then ceremoniasly placed the blanket on the ground. And all of the sudden, something was coming up from underneath the blanket. The four guys then lift the blanket to reveal Princess Ayaya herself!

Everybody was overcome with tears of joy and relief! Though Rika and Ai Takahashi seemed pissed. Even Kaori yelled at her thru her tears as Aya apologized for putting them thru this.

It was so much fun to watch! Specially the girl's genuine reaction to it. I guess they haven't watch too many magic tricks like that. Because it was just your average escape/ Houdini trick.

First up is the 60m dash. Everybody competed in this event so I'll just highlight some random heats. What was surprising was the Hello! Project Kids did quite well and beating out some of the older members. Poor Yuko was beaten by some of the H!P kids :lol:

There were some casualties, Mari twisted her leg in this event and was unable to compete for the rest of the time. :(

Then for the final showdown we have the 4 fastest. Mai Satoda who was the 2002 MVP and won this event in 2002.

Maki Goto who won this event at the Osaka festival was MVP for that festival. A H!P kid who is pretty darn fast, the other girls better watch out for her in 2004. Nozomi Tsuji who injured herself at the Osaka festival and was unable to compete for the rest of the event there. She got a pretty competetive spirit and wanted to compete even with the injury but officials denied her request. So she's really pumped up for this festival.

Mai gave up near the end and it was a photo finish between Nozomi and H!P Kid01. Blue team rejoice because they got 1 and 2, good for the points and Nono pumps the air in victory!!

I find Morning Musume a little too cute, along with Judy and Mary. Hitomi is better for me, as is Ayumi Hamasaki, if I'm thinking of the right person then Anzen Chitai is someone I don't mind listening to. My favourite though is probably thew fe bits o X-Japan I catch here and there.

Althou I mostly listen to Japan-A-Radio (http://www.japanaradio.com) for anime music. The links on Japan-A-Radio are dire but if you can cope with that they have some pretty good stuff on there.

Morning Musume is almost a representative part of Japanese pop culture, I think. They set a lot of trends and whatever, and I find them cute and amusing, but not in large doses.

And as a side note, Morning Musume Otomegumi and Morning Musume Sakuragumi's new singles are actually decent. ^^
