2 words Street Fighter basically considered and now considered the best 2d fighter why well I geus in Arcades all around the world have a Machine and Capcom never went belly up and they never had a crazy idea of releasing their own console.

Yes SF was the *hit when it came to 2-D fighters. But it's so painfully obvious that SF series is running on fumes y do i say that cause the last SF was 3S n that game came out in 99 4 yrs later n still no new SF game no which is a shame imo.


As for KOF n GGXX the only reason these 2 games r not so popular is 1.U can't find the games anywhere 2.Name Recogniton people here Capcom n there gonna play the hell out of it no matter what.


I'm no genius when it comes to how the vg industry works but if Kof n GGXX want to make a impact now is the time MvC2 histaria is dying done (thank god) n people want something new n fresh KOF n GGXX could provide that breath of fresh air but Eolith/Playmore r never gonna release KOF to home consoles so that leaves GGXX which we all now is gonna come out this Tuesday n finally get the respect it long deserves.

Of course I know the faults of MvC2. That's why it is FAR from being my favorite game. It's only good for casual play, other than that, you are just ASKING to get your *** handed to you. I suck. My friends suck. We ALL suck. There's no point in TRYING to get good at MvC2 because high level play is just too much. But we've got GGX2, and we all know I'm going to be the next Sammy Cup winna! CvS2... I haven't played it in a while... I'm really losing whatever small amout of skill I had at it. I was played GGX2 nonstop, then I restarted a game of Xenogears in anticipation for Xenosaga. Once both of those games are over.... Well, actually Wind Waker will be out by then, but once THAT'S over... Perhaps some CvS2 is in order.

I usually go with Athena, Terry, and Joe these days. I use N groove all the time now.

Learn counter characters, Eagle and Kim can counter Blanka. Athena can counter Cammy and Rolento, Hibiki and Chun Li counter Sagat. Didnt expect that did ya

Athena sucks no matter how you look at it, and I wouldn't even consider Rolento much of a threat. Eagle cannot beat Blanka, nor can Kim(Kim is damn good, and I think he has a better chance of taking down Sagat than Blanka) if the Blanka player knows what the Hell he's doing. Hibiki is damn good, as is Chun-Li(With her stupid trap she has), but in general, they're going to lose to Sagat. Granted, those characters can pose problems - But if you know roll cancelling to any degree, you're not gonna lose 9 times out of 10 with Sagat and Blanka on your team. Counter doesn't work that well if you're playing someone who's good =p Crack countering every single Blanka ball on reaction would be impossible unless you're the best player in the world. But just in case this is possible, I'm never going to do Blanka balls again =p Hell, I won't even bother mixing it up just by poking or going low with a slide. Ever tried countering an RC Ball at point blank range/sweep range? You counter that everytime, you're not human. But that's all irrelevant - When you have to play the whole game to counter 2 characters (Blanka/Sagat) it's not worth playing =p

Trust me Athena doesnt suck and her df alone stuffs everything Cammy has. If you think Athena sucks you havent played a good Athena. Eagle and Kim is anti Blanka and damn good at it to, not to mention Eagle is quickly coming up in the rankings especially in a and c groove. Hibiki and Chun Li generally will beat sagat, why? They can make Sagat come to them, Chun can flat out own Sagat and Hibiki more than holds her own.

Rock is basically a poor mans Geese, he has counters and they are easier to due but the draw back is that they dont do as much damage and he cant counter supers. His raging storm is also smaller and alot more liniar than Geese's and does alot less damage. He can be effective though especially in k groove, his dash move into the throw into a lvl3 does hella damage. His jumping roundhouse is good and his elbow smash as well as standind roundhouse can be used as anti air. Kyo is good as well actually, he is really good inside. Kyo has great foot games and alot of damagable combos. When I have time ill post more as to why but I g2g for now chiao.

I dunno. If you go to Top-players.com and watch Buktooth VS Alex Valle, you'll see a pretty good Hibiki in action. Buktooth has a pretty good strategy against Sagat. Oh, and I think if anyone can crack the Blanka balls...it's Daigo Umehara. Heheh.. I'm such a fan..

Yeah it was pretty disgusting, Tokido totally dominated the finals with a headbutt honda, they have found ways to beat that since but its still hard. Some people still isnt sure whether INO sent Tokido into the losers bracket originally because of his K Groove or because Tokido didnt use Honda against him. Athena sucks huh, well she can just df that ****.

Oh my, thats a really cute picture. :) Whats wrong with Athena you guys. I think she's one of the most effective fighters. Her psycho attacks are awesome. Her super moves are even better if used strategically (like if you corner an opponent). I have no idea what the subject is but I think Athena A. rocks!! :D

Well, I like Kyo's original black outfit best. My favorite of Athena's out fits is KOF 96, KOF 99, and KOF 2002. Not many other people's outfits change, really. I do love Terry Bogard's Garou look, though.

I do agree that Kasumi looks adorable but she's been wearing the same gi and hakama since KOF '96. She hasn't changed a bit. I would love to see Kasumi wear a new outfit in the future.

Well, I think she does that on purpose. Look at her father, Todoh. He is very very traditional. I imagine its how she was raised. She seems to really like her father and she most likely want to make him proud. That's just how the martial artists of the Todoh style dress, I suppose.

Bleh. Capcom hasn't made an amazing fighter since 3rd Strike. And the way things are panning out (what with the death of Capcom Arcade) it doesn't seem like they will ever meet the glory the used to have.

It's a shame too... I was looking forward to Darkstalkers 4 and Street Fighter 4. Oh well......

Well, in CvS2 they spell his name Todo. That's who I was talking about. And speaking of Todo, I still think he totaly reminds me of Soun Tendo from Ranma 1/2! Does anyone else see the striking similarities? Never seen Ranma, dont care to. Todo is hella good in CvS2 though.

Oh trust me he is a monster in K and A groove especially. This man has way to many ways to kill you in A groove you just have to know how to use him. Personally myself I dont, I can do his customs but I suck with him, but ive seen people who are good with him and its a nasty sight to see.

That problem was more or less fixed (or at least greatly improved) in Capcom vs. SNK 2. However the SNK characters still don't quite have the power they do in King of Fighters, Kyo especially... Well, at least Terry, Athena, and Joe rock. That right there is my best team, I think.

Fatal Fury, King of Fighters and Samurai Showdown ROCKED!!! These were some of the best 2D fighters ever made. Excellent gameplay and unforgettable characters (who could ever forget Mai Shiranui :crush: ?) made for classic games.

Capcom vs. SNK 2 was the first PS2 game I ever bought and I still love it!!! I am certainly looking forward to SNK vs. Capcom.

I am also hoping future installments of King of Fighters make it stateside and I'd really like to see more Samurai Showdown.

Let me say welcome back Yuri-Chan. Long time no see.

Anyways, I haven't had a HUGE amount of playtime with 2002. But everyone says it's the "better version" of 98. I don't necessarily agree with that, but I can honestly say I had more fun with '02 then I have with anything after 98. So yeah... it's fun. I just need more playtime with it.

In other news... in the most GHETTO tournament EVER... I came in 3rd out of 5 players at 98. And may I say, I only lost because I played the only fool that knew what the hell he was doing... and he whomped me with Benimaru. It made me sad, but oh well. I'll get better and then I WILL BE THE ONE WITH THE 1000 TICKETS! Bwahahahaha. Shut up. Prizes = Tickets = Good idea.

KOF 2003 is slated to be released very soon in Japan. Not much has been known so far. We only know about as much as the official KOF 2003 website shows us but it's looking sweet so far. We do know that Andy has been taken off the Fatal Fury team and has been replaced with Tizoc. I really liked the new logo for it, it's an awesome looking color green. ^_^

Edit: Capcoms best game is probably 3S, SNK's is IMO either Garou or LB2, and both are pretty equal in quality, thuogh 3S is played a hell of alot more.

I've always thought SNK's best game has been the King of Fighters series because of it's sheer popularity alone. It's been around for 9 years now. I'm also a huge fan of the Samurai Shodown, Garou, Last Blade, and Metal Slug series because they are really enjoyable too.

SNK/Playmore has already tried to bring back both the Samurai Shodown series and the Metal Slug series with both Samurai Shodown 5 and Metal Slug 5 so that's a step in the right direction. I hope SNK/Playmore can do the same with a possible Last Blade 3. If SNK continues on with the KOF series, eventually it'll catch up with Garou's storyline. The KOF series might even transform into Garou in the future.

Last Blade 2 was awesome, I just wish it could more recognition when it first came out around 1998. It was only released on Neo-Geo, Neo-Geo CD, and Dreamcast systems. I heard SNK/Playmore was also going to do a Last Blade 1/2 combination re-release on the Japanese Playstation 2 sometime in 2005, that seems cool.

I remember I played Street Smart. I never did get to play the original Neo-Geo verison but I did play the Mega Drive (import Genesis) version of the game. It was quite enjoyable and I remember getting the ability to gain powerstocks after every fight that you won. You would be able to power up certain attributes such as Power, Defense, or Stamina as you wanted to specialize yourself in a game, it was interesting to play.

I thought KOF '95 was a fun game to play overall, but I thought it was way unbalanced. Some characters were alot stronger than others, plus playing against the computer is always near impossible to beat. It has really nice backgrounds, but this game was just so hard. Even at a Level-1, they are quite a formidable opponent. KOF '96 totally blew KOF '95 away with its improved game play, graphics, computer AI, updated character spirits, and so many other things!! ^_^

Anyways, I'm here to say that I am absolutley amazed by Athena: Full Throttle (http://game.snkplaymore.co.jp/mobile/i-mode/special/athena_ft.php) released for a moble service in Japan. There is also a game called Athena: On Stage (http://game.snkplaymore.co.jp/mobile/i-mode/special/aos.php), as well as Days of Memories (http://game.snkplaymore.co.jp/mobile/i-mode/special/dom_oedo.php) featuring Nakoruru and the Samurai Spirit crew. Any SNK fan would be excited to play them here. It would be great if SNK/Playmore USA brought these new titles to America, if not, for a cell phone provider to bring them to us. That would be so awesome!! It's nice to know SNK has continued production of such wonderfully vibrant games even to this day!! ^_^

I remember the original Psycho Soldiers, but I never did get to play it myself. It's always such a thrill to play with her in the KOF series, but I didn't become a huge fan of Athena Asamiya until I got into SNK games in the early 90's. When I look back, she started out in the NES, and I think she could very well be a candidate of being SNK's mascot. This new Athena: Full Throttle game seems to be the original Psycho Soldiers game, but re-released with updated graphics, and wow are those graphics pretty!! The other moble games I liked seem to be dating sims. SNK/Playmore had also released more moble games besides the few I already linked. Wow, I can't believe this thread is still around. It was one of my first threads ever when I started AN. Yeah, I still love SNK!! Too bad they don't seem to be the same anymore. SO many years have past since the glory days of the Neo-Geo, KOF, and the Samural Shodown series. It seems like it was a few generations ago. At least they have tried to stay alive.

I thought KOFXII was a disappointment (nice innovative graphics for this series, but come on), KOFXI was actually good considering it came out around the end of the last generation of consoles.

What did you think of Samurai Showdown Sen? I was pretty excited about it back when it was announced, but I waited for it to drop in price, which it did pretty quickly. I think I picked it up for $30 and was pretty disappointed. It just felt like a really poorly made game, and it's now $15 new collecting dust at Gamestops.

I have to say, Samurai Shodown Sen is possibly the worst game I own in my SNK collection!! The game itself is disappointing. The gameplay was disjointed with very bad hit detection, stiff controls, bad visuals, bad sound effects, and one of the worst AI I have ever seen in a fighting game. I mean, the best way I could put it, opponents cut right into you like butter like a real chef-style knife but you fight them with a butter knife instead. The controls are uninviting for newcomers and old timers who actually grew up playing this great series are left wondering how to play this game with completely different move sets, awkward movements in the 3D plane, complete removal of signature moves from previous games, and broken gameplay mechanics. I don't know what else bad to say. This game just doesn't feel right, it doesn't feel like a Samurai Shodown game. I guess if I have to pick out something good from here was the intro of the game, the music, and the roster of fighters, but that's about it.

The worst thing for me was that I payed full price for this gaming thinking it was going to be something reminiscent of Samurai Shodown 64, because I actually liked that 3D game for the Hyper Neo-Geo 64, but I was left in the dust.
