Dragon Box Survey - What's Next?

Wednesday February 8, 2012 at 10:15 am by Rojas

Surveys, surveys, surveys. We know they can get tedious, but they really do help us make some very important decisions. For example, which Dragon Box set would you like to see FUNimation release next?

For several months now, we've been getting a lot of feedback from the fans about future Dragon Box releases. There have been demands for Dragon Box treatments for Dragon Ball, Dragon Ball GT, and the Dragon Ball movies. We've heard you, and we're giving it some thought. So, we'd like to get a little more data from our fans. Which Dragon Box (collector's edition box) release do you think we should start with?

Please click this link and take our short survey to tell us what you think.

DISCLAIMER: Now, before anyone starts to go into conniptions, this is not a guarantee that we will be releasing more Dragon Boxes. At this point, we are considering it. But, we need input from all of our fans. So, if you want to see your favorite Dragon Ball saga get the Limited Edition Dragon Box treatment, make sure you take this survey and tell all your friends to take it too. The more responses we get, the better.

i haven't seen DB yet so i would hope they start with the one that started it all!

I want the movie box set next, then original DB series, and finally GT series in Dragon Box form.

Ugh, and here I thought I was done buying anything Dragonball/Z/GT. But if they're releasing Dragon Boxes for Dragonball and all of the movies, I'll definitely buy those for consistency sake at least.

I'd like them to start with the original series. They just rereleased the movies for the umpteenth time recently, so give that a bit of a break.

I'm not taking the survey, I'm not really into Dragon Ball.

Sorry FUNi; however, I'm not a Dragonball fan, so I will not be taking this survey.

DB all the way. They just released new movie boxsets finally, considering half of them are terrible oh well. lol

The Dragon Boxes for Z were incredible and the definitive version of the series for sure.

Man I hope they go through with this. Having the Dragon Box version of DB would be incredible. Their original release was great too, but this would be much better. Plus we'd finally get the second opening and all the endings that Toei never gave us before (what's wrong with them?).

I of course said that I wanted the Dragon Boxes for the original 1986-1989 Dragon Ball. Now, I've been hearing that the current "blue brick" sets only have one version of the OP (Makafushigi Adventure) and ED (Romantic Ageru Yo). I can only assume that these Dragon Boxes would have not only every variation of the OP and ED, but also their original Japanese credits as well as the next episode previews. Speaking of, actually, at another forum someone mentioned that even episode 1 has a preview which was shown at the end of the final episode of the original Dr. Slump. Maybe these Dragon Boxes would include that (the preview, I mean) as an extra?

In any case, I would only get the first 13 episodes, because that was where Toriyama originally wanted to end his original manga before Shueisha "forced" him to continue it.

If they were also to do a Dragon Box release of the movies, then maybe, just maybe, I might get it if the Dragon Box version of the first movie (originally called simply "Dragon Ball" when it was in Japanese theaters) included the original Japanese credits as well. While the current R1 version of the movie includes the original Toei "crashing waves" logo (which also appears on all of Toei's other live-action and animated movies), it removes the credits (which I'm assuming include the "Eirin"* mark near the logo), and only displays an overlayed "Curse of the Blodd Rubies" logo during the opening.

*Eirin is basically the Japanese equivalent to the MPAA here in the U.S..

I voted for Dragon Ball. I already have Dragon Ball on DVD but eh, I'd rather FUNi release it than Gutter Trash.

Yeah, Vol. 4 is going for a pretty penny as well. FUNimation did intend for the Dragon Boxes to be a limited edition and they meant it. I still need to pick up the last three myself. Thankfully, there still seems to plenty of those around.

I have a follow up question.

Now that the DVD Dragon boxes are OOP.

Any chance that Funi will be releasing the Dragon Boxes on Bluray after the Kai boxes have been released and run it's course?

Its original version is too great, but it would be much better. In addition, we will eventually get a second open, all ending, Toei never give us.

Is there any hope to ever getting the original ocean dub on DVD?
