What the hell is it???? I'm sure he might not have a devil fruit ability because he didn't sink when saving luffy when he was a kid, unless he obtained it after maybe, any suggestions?

You have to watch up to a Shabody Archipelago to get the answer.

He has the same thing Rayleigh and Luffy have, "The King's Disposition".

I think they call it Haki.

ah yeah see I knew that but I'm just saying is it possible that he could have a devil fruit power now, maybe one he got after what happened with luffy...if he doesn't his diposition must be THE strongest or one of the strongest!

Nah Shanks is just and exceptionally strong sword fighter. They mentioned at one point that before he lost his arm Shanks used to regularly duel with Mihawk. Plus even though he only has one arm he was able to fight evenly with Whitebeard.

As someone else mentioned, he most likely has a special form of Haki called "The King's Disposition" but it has not been confirmed even though it has been strongly implied. Going off memory, so far only 3 people in the series have been confirmed to have this special ability.

Also, it has been stated that Shanks didn't lose any of his strength after losing his arm.

I believe its been implied that the Kings disposition is the strongest of the Haki types (considering the Amazon's and Sengoku's reaction to Luffy's usage of it). So far only two of its powers have been shown however, which appear to be the power to knock out weak enemies, and the ability to harm even Logia fruit users in their element forms.

Yeah it's just like going super saiyan, the longer you can scream for the more powerful you will be as a result.

*sigh*

It has nothing to do with screaming though, Shanks and Silvers Rayleigh have both used it without screaming. (If I remember correctly Shanks said something but it was after he had stopped the beast in its tracks) Luffy on the other hand has no control over it and so it acted on his emotions. On both occasions that he used it he did scream, however it was probably his sense of protecting Marguerite and later Ace, more than the scream itself.

Apologies if any of the names are spelt wrong I'm just going off memory.

EDIT: And he used "haki" on Motobaro and he was quite calm when it freaked & knocked Motobaro out. (the end of episode 389)

The screaming is an essential factor in gaining strength. No screaming = no strength.

what would anime be without the Mass Screaming = Badass super strong powers formula lol

The screaming is an essential factor in gaining strength. No screaming = no strength.

Gaining strength? Luffy didn't gain strength. From what I can take it as (in Amazon Lily) he freaked the Boa sisters out, they were suprised he has the "same Haki as our sister". Up until then he wasn't fighting seriously, after that he went Gear Second while fighting them, as they were probably still in disbelief. Not to mention knocking some of the amazons unconscious. Second, knocking out the wolves in Impel Down. Later, at the execution platform, he again shocked some people and knocked two guards unconscious. At no time did he gain any strength. He can't control it properly, it just comes out in sudden bursts.

Now again about the gaining strength, I was thinking I could be lenient when it comes to Silvers Rayleigh and Shanks. They didn't shout at all. Shanks uttered two words "Get lost" and if I remember correctly Silvers Rayleigh didn't even speak. But then I thought they don't have to gain strength through screaming like you said, because they are already badass-level.

I wish there was some way to portray sarcasm on the internet.

FunnyManRocco

There is no way to portray it because no one wants it. Just being sarcastic and making jokes isn't necessary when someone is looking for information. And its not that I can't pick up on sarcasm, its that I don't want to. I would rather hear someone's intelligent, honest opinion, then another random piece of sarcasm.

Good luck with that on the internet. If you're not intelligent enough to pick up on a little sarcasm and attempt to needlessly correct me, don't be surprised if I continue the facade.

Like I ALREADY said in the quote you actually quoted. Its not that I can't pick it up, I shouldn't have to. It has absolutely nothing to do with intellect. Sarcasm. IS. Completely. Unnecessary.

sCam asked a question and called haki "the scream thing" then you used your sarcasm for an answer. Which, if left uncheck and uncorrected would just make matters worse for those who actually believe you. Because its not "the longer you can scream for the more powerful you will be as a result."

God forbid, if someone did believe you, but I guess you would just write them off for not being "intelligent enough" to know its sarcasm. And I won't be surprised if you continue, I suppose you gotta feel good about yourself somehow.

To get back on topic, nobody really knows what Haki is because it hasn't been fully explained in the manga.

Right now, all we know about Haki is that:

1 There are different levels of Haki
2 Haki seems to allow one to physically touch a logia type such as Adm. Kizaru

Shanks may have the same Haki as Luffy, actually, more along the lines though, of having a higher level of control over it than him. He was seen performing the signature ability of that Haki when he knocked out half the Whitebeard pirates with his presence alone. It seems that's the signature of Luffy's type of Haki.
