The Vehicle Voltron (aka Voltron I) was my favorite as a kid. I began watching Voltron with this show, and by the time they cycled the show to the point where they showed the Lion Voltron (aka Voltron III), I didn't like it as much as the vehicle one. Growing up, I was much more a fan of space opera than I was fantasy, and epic space fleet battles grabbed my attention far more. Sure, a handful of the 15 pilots aren't very memorable, but the story and setting drew me in far more than the lions did. Two of my friends are from Mexico and Puerto Rico, and they also love the vehicles better since the lion episodes never made it to the Spanish audience for some reason. Most people in America don't even seem to know about vehicle Voltron and it may be a good way to make money off of betting people!
I received the Japanese version, Dairugger 15, yesterday in the mail. I'd ordered the first two Golion DVD sets and preordered Dairugger. It's so awesome to see the original shows. I bought the very first lion Voltron DVD when it came out for nostalgia sake, but when I discovered that the Japanese originals were going to be released subtitled, I held off. For awhile I was wondering if they'd ever release Dairugger and was contemplating buying the first vehicle Voltron DVD set, but I'm glad I saved my money.
I hope I'm not the only one who gets excited hearing these old anime showtunes in the intros. The presentation is perfect, and the Japanese titles are left intact.
I'm curious to see some of the Voltron versions of these episodes again. I haven't seen it in a long time (I used to catch episodes on the Spanish station just to be able to see the show I loved). Episode 3 has the Earth fleet getting decimated on the colony planet. I wonder how they sugarcoated that for the English version and ignored the fact that all those people on the planet were killed?
