View Full Version : The Gundam Power Paradox

So I have watched Gundam Wing all the way through, both SEED and Destiny, and Gundam 00 all the way as well, and one thing I noticed, which may happen in the others, is that the characters all say something along the lines of this:
"I have no power" or "I want more power" or "I lack the power to protect people" etc. etc. etc.
The irony here is that in most cases these are the people who in half the recycled battle scenes are always blowing the crap out of everyone else.
Now don't mistake me, I love these three series, and they don't do it as much in 00, but it strikes me as just a little ridiculous.
Thoughts?

The longer you live and see people/friends/relatives die around you, the more powerless you feel?
I dunno, seems like that would be a common result.

No matter how much power you may have, if the enemy has more then you don't have enough, and will want more to protect who you love.

Scenes where they blow the crap out of endless hordes of nameless mooks to show how cool their mechs are don't count. It's only named opponents and serious dilemmas that matter. They need more power to beat their nemesis not hordes of mooks.
I always wonder what actual word they are using that gets translated as 'strong'. He's strong. You've gotten stronger. It's can't be physical strength or not just physical strength. People say it in circumstances where an increases in physical strength would be impossible to detect and wouldn't matter.

Well, they're all just jealous of Turn A and Turn X.

I always felt the Gundams were to powerful in certain series like Wing and 00, they could defeat entire armies by themselves

It did take some of the dramatic tension out of Gundam Wing when NoPersonalityGuy's gundam took direct hits to the face at point blank range and was completely unharmed. Gundam Wing couldn't afford to lose much of it's precious little dramatic tension.
But Gundam Wing was 'Gundam Super Sentai Bishi Team' rubbish anyway.
