Iranian troops have entered southern Iraqi territory and taken control of an oil well, reports say.
An Iraqi official played down the incident, saying the area was abandoned and right on a disputed border section.
Iranian soldiers crossed the border and raised an Iranian flag over the Fakkah oil field, a US military spokesman told the AFP news agency.
But an Iranian oil company spokesman denied the accusation, saying no troops had taken control of any oil well.
"The company denies Iranian soldiers taking control of any oil well inside Iraqi territory," the National Iranian Oil Company spokesman was quoted as saying by Iranian media....

You seriously needed to title this "IRan invades Iraq"?
Do you even know what the term "Invasion" truly means? I see this more of a trespassing incident or border line differences. There was no full scale military assault invovled nor Iraq even tried to do anything about it.
Go try to scare someone else. lol. Anyway, this will probably blow over. If not, I say let those two fight it out.

also, The news on the Iranian front is all quiet. I know there are claims that the area was disputed but they came in fired upon workers, that then fled, and seized the oil rig

Would it really be a bad thing to dump Iraq on someone else?
If anything one has to wonder why keep the country as one big piece to begin with, the three ethnic group don't agree with one another and if there's a place where a 'melting pot' aproach to a country doesn't work its the middle east. They each need their own little piece of land before they can be happy and start to slowly get over their old bitter rivalry.

Let 'em sort their own problems. US involvment isn't always the answer to everything.

Well, if Iraq says that its abandoned and its right where they're having border dispute and they're willing to let it go then by all means. I think Iraq is downplaying it because they have no means of fighting them back. This should be a test for Iraq in policing their own problems and not seek help unless it really escalates.

It is not abandoned, it is up for rent Iraq maintains all their producing oil wells just like every other oil producing nation. It is also not right over the border, it would be like the Mexican Army parking itself in El Cajon and kicking everyone out and raising the Mexican flag. I expect Iraq to do nothing and Iran will grab another well in a week or two.

Yes it would. Its called global economics. Also we do have troops here last time i checked. :(
Take a real hard look people. Remember what I was talking about the other day in the Iran missile thread? Well in the land where chess was originated I would call this pawn takes oil field...OIL FIELD PEOPLE!
Gee..what does this remind me of..oh yeah. The Invasion of Kuwait or what is most remembered by some as the beginning to Desert storm!
Iran invades Iraq..this guy has the title right. I meen what else do you want to call it..Iran has just disrespected Iraq by illegally crossing its border and took over a very valuable piece of economic property. More importantly why was this land not defended!?
This kind of act could lead to declaration of war.
This is what Iran wants. This was a testing of the waters. Playing political football. This is them saying.."yeah punk I just took your oil. What are you gonna do about it?"
What indeed is iraq and the world gonna do about it? That is the question now... :(

It's not an invasion, it's just a small border incident.

well interesting development. Looks like Iran is pulling out from what I heard on the news.
Still I don't like this. There up to something. For Iran to just give back the oil field just like that..no its just too easy. There up to something I can just feel it.
(another thing to consider..makes you wonder what it took to get them off the oil field. Its gotta to be more then iraq threating to retaliate)

I don't bother paying attention to weather forecasts unless it's temperature, because otherwise they're almost always wrong. Temperature predictions are usually right here in Arizona actually. Everywhere else they're off a lot of the time.

Interestingly, my dad, who's not only Iranian but a veteran of the Imperial Iranian Air Force, wants American and/or Israeli military action against Iran just because of how much he hates the Islamic Republic (he served under the Shah, although he hated him, too).
Anyways, these types of border incidents have been going on for decades.
