'eh. Even the guy who built the Lego Gun can see where the confusion arose from. You also have to understand that its very difficult to be legally licensed to carry and then actually purchase a handgun here. It's not exactly a regular thing. Hell, if you ask most Canadians they actually think it's completely illegal because it's so uncommon.
And honestly, it's not like they gassed the building or anything. I think their response was relatively appropriate given that their was an individual in the building who apparently had a weapon he was not licensed to own.
Although, not really sure how that passerby failed to notice the smattering of Lego parts on the desk...

I have said nothing in regards to "America **** Yeah!" This isn't about America it is about a country who's government is becoming overgrown and is smothering its citizens, and the Candian one is just about peoples gun paranoia. See a gun? OMG he is going to kill us!

Like I said, it's a little different here. A gun in general wouldn't alarm most people - there's actually a lot of gun ownership in Canada. Somewhere around 23% of the population owns guns (Or more precisely, there are enough guns in civilian ownership to arm 23% of the population). The thing is, they're almost all LARGE weapons. Rifles and shotguns for sport and hunting. Of what's left the vast majority are collectors pieces. Other than in the hands of a peace officer (And even then...) it's not at all common here to see someone carrying a handgun here.
If you saw someone dancing down the street with a grenade in hand, wouldn't you be a little alarmed? That's right around the same level of "WTF?!" as a handgun for Canada.

The response by the police is fair and understandable given the information that they had, but the passers by who notice these things ought to to use at least SOME common sense.

You should visit the country before assuming that reading a few articles mostly about proposed laws in the country is the same as having been to the country yourself.

My theory is that at some point animeotakus social life, personal moral, and career started a fast yet painful death spiral and now he desperately grasps at the achievements of his country as a whole and tries to ride on the backs of others in order to achieve maximum E-peen, all the while gleefully advocating a society of individualism. In short, he insults other nations and grasps at the illusion of superiority he gets from that in order to fill that dark void in his life.

The two countries DO NOT get along very well, nor do any Islamic nations.

I don't know how it is in America, but if you see someone sporting a handgun 'round here, you assume he means business. In Canada, guns have an extremely negative reputation just because of school shootings and other related violence. It's such an unfamiliar sight I'm not surprised anyone overreacted. I've never even seen one myself, besides the handle sticking out from a police officer's holster.
Considering this and considering the guy was in somewhat public space, he should have known better even if what he was doing was entirely harmless.

Way back in the day one of my friends was dumb enough to carry around a toy shotgun with him.
He got stopped by police and brought home. Nothing serious happened, just a wrist slap.

Down the block from me a guy I knew threw a realistic looking fake metal grenade in a cop car. The cop thought it was real and that he was about to be blown up.
Needless to say he went to jail. This was years ago though, so he went to juvy.

I think that from a passing glance it could look pretty real.
To me, the only downside to this increased vigilance is that Transformers G1 Megatron will never be rereleased in his original Walther P-38 mode.

I tried to look for one of those t-shirts for myself after that, but couldn't find one. I've seen other people wearing them though. Even in a railway station! OMG! Everybody run away! They're a really nice design.
