This thread is for discussion regarding and pictures of your super robot models and the ones you intend potentially to get. I actually don't have any picture right now since my first purchase of super robot models is still en route to me, but I'll be contributing my first pictures soon enough.
So far I've ordered the "Mechanic Collection" kits of Mazinger Z, Getter 1 and Raideen. I've also ordered Revoltech figures of Gaiking and Dancougar. There are countless others I want, and honestly I don't know why I waited so long to make my first purchase.
My first question for the thread: Is there such a thing as an affordable figure or kit of GaoGaiGar or Gunbuster? They don't need to have fancy features like the Studio HalfEye figures which cost enough arms and legs to cripple an octopus. They just need to be handsome images of my favourite super robots, ideally with a little posability, but I'll settle for static poses. There's a Genesic GaoGaoGar, but honestly I'm not so fond of that design as I am the original. I know, blasphemy, right?

Nope. Not unless you change your definition of "affordable."

Three super robot model kits arrived today! As promised, I can now start uploading some pictures. I hope there are at least a couple of other model fans here because I make no claim that my work is impressive, I just like doing it. I'd like to see some models by those who are masters of the art and really get schooled.
http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y15/soluzar/Super%20Robot%20Models/th_100_1285.jpg (http://s2.photobucket.com/albums/y15/soluzar/Super%20Robot%20Models/?action=view¤t=100_1285.jpg)
Here are my first three kits. Hopefully the first of many, but it depends on what I can find for prices which aren't silly. As you can see, these are Mazinger Z and Getter-1 from Bandai's Mechanic Collection, and Eva-01 Test Type. I've already ordered some others as mentioned in my first post. SAL shipping is cheap, but not fast, I must be patient.
http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y15/soluzar/Super%20Robot%20Models/th_100_1287.jpg (http://s2.photobucket.com/albums/y15/soluzar/Super%20Robot%20Models/?action=view¤t=100_1287.jpg)
I decided to take a picture of the Mazinger kit (almost) fresh out of the box. I've already constructed the Hover Pilder, and removed the top of Mazinger's head from the trees. It consists of 68 injection-moulded parts in 9 colours, on 6 separate trees, one of which is (as usual) a multi-gate tree featuring more than one colour. In addition to this there are ten rubber parts, six moulded in the same dark blue as the lower arm and lower leg armor parts and four more moulded in black. The instructions and the general feel of the kit are similar to any HGUC Gundam Model. It also includes a small assortment of screws, nuts, bolts and a spring. I guess that's where the "Mechanic Collection" range derives its name from.
http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y15/soluzar/Super%20Robot%20Models/th_100_1295.jpg (http://s2.photobucket.com/albums/y15/soluzar/Super%20Robot%20Models/?action=view¤t=100_1295.jpg)
This is a side view of the Hover Pilder. The image is small and a bit fuzzy, which is because I only have a cheap point-and-shoot camera. Getting close-up shots of minuscule objects is not easy. The Pilder is pretty detailed for the size of it. The wings fold up just like they should, and the front is a transparent piece. I was expecting it to be much less detailed, perhaps just a single piece that was permanently slotted into the head of Mazinger, but no... this is made from five separate pieces and is capable of recreating the activation sequence after a fashion. I doubt Mazinger's eyes will glow when I finally reach the moment of "Pilder ON!" though.
http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y15/soluzar/Super%20Robot%20Models/th_100_1346.jpg (http://s2.photobucket.com/albums/y15/soluzar/Super%20Robot%20Models/?action=view¤t=100_1346.jpg)
To show you how tiny the Pilder is, I took a picture of it next to a 50p coin. Admittedly the size of that isn't familiar to you Americans, but I can say with certainty that it is typically coin-sized. Slightly larger than a dollar coin if memory serves me. I was rather nervous when removing the excess plastic from around the edges of these pieces. I haven't worked on anything so delicate thus far, with the possible exception of a Gundam's V Fin. Those don't usually seem to require much cleaning up, whereas this had lots of flash clinging to it. The larger the piece, the easier it is to remove from the trees.
http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y15/soluzar/Super%20Robot%20Models/th_100_1388.jpg (http://s2.photobucket.com/albums/y15/soluzar/Super%20Robot%20Models/?action=view¤t=100_1388.jpg)
Last but by no means least, this is Mazinger Z's completed torso. The pilder is docked, and although you can't see it too well, it looks great, just like in the anime. Before it will look great, the facemask and headgear need to be painted in gunmetal, or something like that. I'm not much of a painter, but I will add some details to finish off a model properly when necessary.

There's an MG Dunbine? I can't see that anywhere on HLJ. I can only see HG Dunbine and a few other Aura Battlers. They look cool though. I think my next purchase will be some of the Code Geass Nightmare Frames. I just saw them today, I want the Mechanic Collection Lancelot and Guren Nishiki. Other Nightmare Frames are available but only as action figures, which is OK... but not great.
Back to Mazinger Z for a moment, imagine my delight to discover that this kit actually has a working Rocket Punch! You can replace either of the forearms with a spring-loaded arm that you can fire across the room at the press of a button. Sadly it won't return, but that's amazingly cool as far as I'm concerned. Mazinger Z now has one leg and one arm. It is looking good, although I have to tell you that these rubber parts are entirely a mixed blessing. On the one hand they look great. On the other hand, it's really hard to trim them if there is a bit of excess from the tree clinging to them.

I have arrived as per yor PM Soluzar.
Unfortunately my Banpresto originals models are ... not in a state that I'd like them posted online. They weren't in that great of a state to begin with (I'm not very you see) but I went away for a week a while back and when I returned home I found them both broken in a way that I can't repair (that is more than just parts falling off). I'm still not quite sure how it happened.
So I'm basically sending my apologies with this post.
...
Except for this Shin Getter 1 statue:

Which proved to be impossible to photograph. I'm not sure why. Here are the two best shots I managed to get:

I'm so sorry to hear that. It's a real shame you put your time into building them to find that somehow they got broken. The Shin Getter statue is really nice, mind you! :D
Mazinger Z now stands on two legs, leaving only the left arm and the Jet Scrander to complete the model. Good times. Photographs to follow.

Unfortunately I don't have any Super Robot models or actions figures. :(
There is only one store around here that sells mecha model kits, and aside from a GaoFighGar model I saw a few years back (Before I'd watched GGG), they're all Gundam model kits (Currently UC and 00). My only SRW related figure is also a Real Robot, the ART-1 that came with the LE version of OGS Gaiden.
Right now the only things I have that are super robot related are a Noriko Takaya capsule figure I got in Japan, and the Noriko Takaya Bome figure I got at a con a few years ago. Oh, and some Transformers toys (but they're from the live-action movies, not the classic series.)
As far as wants, well that's a big list, especially when I look at the Soul of Chogokin figures. Gunbuster, Genesic GaoGaiGar and Mazinkaiser kits would definitely be on my list, but more than anything I want the Soul of Chogokin GX-13 Dancouga.
Don't even get me started on how many Banpresto Original models I want. I hope those SD figures of Daizengar and Aussenseiter that combine are still available somewhere.

Retail stores will never compete with online for this stuff. I was afraid of ordering online for ages, but HLJ have plenty of stuff, you should take a look.

I have ordered a Revoltech Dancougar, maybe not quite as cool as the SoC, but it looks decent. Still didn't arrive, though. Maybe next week, I'd love a Gunbuster model, but the only one I can find is that Studio HalfEye one that costs a small fortune.
Come to think of it I can't recall if I saw an affordable Mazinkaiser... I saw one that costs a small fortune, but then it's not uncommon to see both that kind and the more affordable models or kits available for the same robot.

I'm browsing there now, actually, but usually most of the kits I want are either very expensive (like that SoC Dancouga) or Out of Stock.
Ironically, I've bought the Kaiyodo Gunbuster (http://www.hlj.com/images/kyd/kyd01027.jpg) figure before, as a gift for a friend. These days I'm pissed at myself for not buying one for myself as well. Actually, I'm pissed at myself for not buying more stuff from that kit store I went to in Japan.

Kaiyodo did a Revoltech Gunbuster? Damn, I wish I'd seen that. I can't find a listing for it on the store anymore, which probably means it is discontinued. It was probably a lot cheaper than the Studio HalfEye model. I keep hoping someone will do a Gunbuster figure at a reasonable price, or a nice GaoGaiGar. With regards to the King of Braves, the companies seem more keen on doing GaoFighGar, GaoGaiGo and Genesic GaoGaiGar, none of which really are what I want. I want original GaoGaiGar ideally with the Goldion Hammer.
I was just looking around on ebay, and I found an action figure listing that looks decent. It's not entirely an accurate model, but it looks good, and it can perform "Final Fusion" after a fashion, being comprised of separate Galeon, DrillGao, LinerGao and StealthGao parts. It doesn't seem to have any kind of Shishio Gai figure, but the Galeon can transform to Gaigar and then connect to the various other parts... no Goldion Hammer but I'll be happy enough if it turns out to look like the pictures I've seen.
There are a few reviews (http://www.collectiondx.com/review/transforming_toy/dx_gaogaigar) on the net that make it sound very nice. Definitely a toy rather than an accurate model, like some of the more expensive figures... but that's fine. GaoGaiGar often seems like the rightful successor to transformers in many ways, and that's how this figure seems to be positioned.
You can also get a Goldion Hammer (http://www.collectiondx.com/review/action_figure/goldymarg_dx_goldion_hammer) including transformable Goldymarg from the same range, to go with it. I'll leave that just for now, but I'd love both, and one of the ChoRyujin toys I've seen.
Up until now I only saw auctions for this figure that I was afraid might be bootlegs. If you pay too far below the going rate, you run this risk of getting a bootleg instead of a bargain. This one was... not cheap, but not too bad. I've gone for it.
Combined with the purchases I've already made, I've got a pretty decent representation of some of my favourite robots. Hurry up and arrive, Gaiking! I'd love it if there was a reasonably priced Kotetsu Jeeg figure. Although I've never been able to see the series other than short raw clips, I'm a huge fan of Jeeg's design. As well as his theme tune, which often goes through my head when I'm "building up" one of my model kits. :D

Except there is no Revoltech Gunbuster. There is, however, a Gunbuster made by Kaiyodo before revoltech was introduced. The same was done for several Evangelion figures.

Oh... I see. I tend to only associate the Kaiyodo brand with Revoltech figures, but I understand now. I guess that would make it pretty old, the Revoltech line has been going for some time now. I'll keep my eyes open, but I doubt I'll find one of those figures for a good price.
I guess I can just about live without one if my GaoGaiGar and my Gaiking turn out to be as shiny as the pictures make them look.

As far as Super Robot models go I'm actually content for the moment. There are a few things it'd be nice to have but as it stands they're too expensive for me to bother and I don't want them enough. Like the Perfect Change Cybuster and things like it (not sure if it's even avaliable anymore)
All of my current purchases are only related to Super Robots by way of homage. http://hlj.com/images/gsc/gsc96374_6.jpg

I hear ya. I'm not willing to buy items at silly prices, even if they are cool. Hence my lack of SRW related items. Kotobukiya seem inclined to short production runs and high prices, and they seem to make most of the SRW goodies.

Personally I don't care to get into buying character figurines, I know there'd be NO END to it, and I've spent quite enough on robots recently. Maybe once I have most of the robots I want, excluding the expensive items I realistically won't be getting, then I might turn to a few favoured characters in figurine form, but not for now..

It will need a bit of paint on the facemask and the top of the head to look perfect, but I'm really happy with it. As the pose suggests, Mazinger is ready to launch a Rocket Punch! It really can do that, thanks to a cunning spring mechanism and a tiny button on the underside of the elbow. You can also use a fixed forearm if you don't want to chance parts of your model flying off at random.
http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y15/soluzar/Super%20Robot%20Models/th_100_1493.jpg (http://s2.photobucket.com/albums/y15/soluzar/Super%20Robot%20Models/?action=view¤t=100_1493.jpg)
There you can see the rear view, showing off the removable Jet Scrander, which is pretty much exactly as you see it in the anime. It docks in the same way, fastening a clasp around Mazinger's abdomen. The wings don't fold as they do in the real Scrander launch sequence, but that's nothing more than a minor detail. I can't really imagine that you'd ever want them to. My only gripe is that in the anime those red details on the tailfin of the scrander are supposed to be the letter "Z" whereas in this model they are only the lower two strokes of a letter "Z" instead. I can use paint to remedy that, though. Very carefully.

I'd recommend it to anyone. The outer pieces make it look as though there's hardly any assembly, but underneath all that there's a fairly articulated inner frame, just like with the master grade Gundam kits. The major joints are held together with either screws or nuts and bolts, no polycaps at all. The outer armour pieces are nice and solid, on the arms and legs... but the chest and the groin are actually rubber, for added flexibility I suppose.
It isn't hard to complete at all. Very satisfying though.

Most of the upstairs was dedicated to action figures when I went there. Well it's still probably sturdier than say ...a MG Mobile Suit's hand (a Zaku's say) which has about 57 moving parts (well individually articulated fingers anyway). Still getting replacement parts is usually impossible so it's probably best to be a little bit cautious.

I just took an unboxing shot of my EVA-01 kit. It's a bit better composed than the Mazinger Unboxing, since I decided to clear a section of my desk specially for the occasion. It is more like the Gunpla I'm used to than the Mazinger kit was, without any screws and springs. It has some weapons that I honestly don't remember seeing in anything I watched so far, and it isn't a Shin Gekijouban model. Lots of vinyl tubing for the umbilical cable, so my Evangelion can go a nice long way without running out of power... I wonder... where do I plug it in.
http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y15/soluzar/Super%20Robot%20Models/th_100_1511.jpg (http://s2.photobucket.com/albums/y15/soluzar/Super%20Robot%20Models/?action=view¤t=100_1511.jpg)
There appear to be 133 injection-molded parts, although I'm only adding up the highest numbers on each tree, so it could be out by a few. There are also two long vinyl tubes, a polycap sheet, and an unpainted figure of Shinji which is not in scale. I got a few of these with my Gundam SEED 1/100 models, I have no idea what to do with them! my painting skills just aren't that good!
The standard parts come in six different colours, and the arms are somewhat special since they have a sort of rubberised black inlay over the purple plastic center. I don't know why they didn't just do that with pieces that snap on, but I'm not complaining at all! It looks good, and there are places to snap in the green details that the arms need. I just never had a part that was comprised of two separate colours before. There is also a foil sticker sheet, just as usual... and a sheet of what are either dry-transfer or waterslide decals.
Nice. I'm going to have some fun assembling this. Not knowing what kind of decals these are worries me a bit though. You see, it seems like treating waterslides as dry transfer decals or vice-versa would probably ruin them. Oh well, something to think about when it is nearly done. I'm basically happy with the colours of this model. As I stated before, I'm not a big fan of painting, so... I might apply a topcoat to protect the decals, but probably I'll stick with the colours as they are. They aren't exactly right, but everything has approximately the right colour.

I've got that same kit and it's essentially remained in a half built status for the past several years. I guess I had too much fun with the spring loaded forearms to finish it
But it looks great! That should be motivation for me to finish mine. I've been needing to work through my back log. I can't wait to see how that Eva turns out; I've only seen one Eva kit that I can remember over ten years ago. I have no idea if it is the same one that you have as well.

Eva-01 is now partly assembled. It looks great, but I can't seem to manage to make it stand up in any pose other than absolutely upright. I wonder if I could find some way to support the feet with a makeshift stand? It is a very flexible model, and it would be a shame to restrict it to the upright pose. Maybe once I add the arms. I must also add that the joints around the ankle are very loose.

You're totally not crashing, that's the whole point! I'd love to see what you have. Personally I have a couple of MG Gundam models I plan to work on after this Eva, so I'd be highly delighted to hear about your models. The only drawback is that it might give me new things I want to buy! -_-;

I know the feeling... I went looking on HobbyLink to get some pre-preview pictures of two of the kits I found in Japan (see which one more people are interested in) and found some spiffy Bubblegum Crisis kits that are 60% off. Unfortunately, it looks like I may have to wait until the new year to even order them. :(

So ... it looks like this is the first model I'll be building since it doesn't require paint or cement - 1/48 SPT Layzner (Real Robot Revolution [R3] line) (http://hlj.com/product/BAN945076)
Excellent. Have you been following along the fansubs ever since someone started charging their Layzner?
You mentioned Macross kits, while I'm not averse to a kit I'd much rather get one of those fully transformable Valkyrie action figures to start with. Either Hikaru or Roy Focker's design.
Oh hey your picture just loaded, that looks nice.
On another topic, do you suppose it's worth putting pictures of my Gundam kits in the other thread? The difference is, there most people will have already seen the kits I'm working on, and can probably do a better job than me. I don't have the confidence to do extensive painting, or the knowledge.

Definitely neither armless nor harmless, and in full posession of a head. Eva-01 is poised with prog. knife, ready to lunge for the angel's core.

I really like the face, and that you can position her mouth to be open. Same basic pose, different angle.
I haven't applied the waterslides yet, because I'm slightly terrified of getting it wrong. At least if I wait, I always have the option to apply them. If I get it wrong, then that option is closed off. Anyone up for teaching Soluzar how to waterslide? I'm sure I did it once, but that was a long time ago... during my childhood modelmaking phase. Since then I've sort of been avoiding them. I have several sheets of decals waiting to be applied.
The model comes with a range of different hands. Open, closed, and trigger finger are the three included variants. It also comes with every weapon that was used in the series. The prog. knife you can see, then there's the pallet (why that name?) gun, That long range positron rifle they used against Ramiel, the polearm weapon that I believe was used against Gaghiel. I can't be sure of the details of the last one without checking. I think that's everything Eva-01 used in the series.
Can't wait to get Eva-00 and find out if it has a special exploding mechanism that will scatter the parts of the model all across my room.

and soon: Dangaioh and Neo Getter 1
I also have a Soul Of Chogokin figure for Kotetsushin Jeeg that I'm pretty proud of
I wish I could find that Gunbuster revoltech, but all I see are Diebuster ones now

I'll openly admit, I have a bizarre bias against toys and action figures as an adult. There's no rational reasoning behind it and I don't care that others buy them (nor do I think less of them), it's just yet-another-Suiko bias.
Now, I've always loved Max Jenus; more so than Hikaru and even a little more than Roy. I've also loved the Super Valkyrie design, too. I saw that Super Valkyrie in a hobby store in Akihabara (it had a 1.8 - 2m tall Mazinger outside, so I had to go in. ) and for 280 yen, I didn't care what the kit did. Turns out the kit itself transforms according to the instructions. Hello Gerwalk mode!
Excellent. Have you been following along the fansubs ever since someone started charging their Layzner?
Yeah, I've been going back and forth with Layzner for a couple of years now. I need to get back on the horse.
But, this thread is about model kits! Let's follow the Soluzar Manual of Style for this, shall we?
http://lh6.ggpht.com/_Zspuwn4ZiN0/SyO0ei5YAaI/AAAAAAAAAkg/Ejiut7dIJAg/s800/p1000234.jpg
Unfortunately, my hobby room/game room/library is still missing a few important furniture pieces (like tables and chairs), so you're stuck with pieces of my office, mostly my huge *** desk.
The above is the kit opened with the trees all out and the "operating manual" (build instructions) propped against the bottom portion of the packaging. When I picked this up, I knew this would be an endeavor. The box size is similar to your typical Master Grade, perhaps a little deeper. As I began building, I realized how in depth this kit is. The instructions start you off with the head; I'm abut three steps in and only have two more steps to complete it.
I must say, the quality of this kit is fantastic. The plastic is pliable enough that makes removing it from the trees pretty painless and edges and blemishes file down very nicely. Which is good - the head contains a number of small, fiddly bits which can be quite the pain to clean properly so it looks good once pieced together. And, to its credit, while the plastic is easy to work with before assembly, the kit is surprisingly tight and sturdy. Pieces fit together fantastically. Here's some of the head to provide a little detail to see what I am talking about.
http://lh6.ggpht.com/_Zspuwn4ZiN0/SyO0faeZQJI/AAAAAAAAAko/PKanYAoJyJs/s800/p1000237.jpg
The white piece is the face of the SPT, while the blue portion is the back of the lower head. In the back is the pilot's chair. For an idea of the types of pieces we are working with, the chair is assembled from four individual parts. While leaving it completely grey is an option, the color guide has a bichromatic color scheme with a pale green for the armrests and control sticks and yellow for the remainder of the chair. Which gets me to the first complaint concerning this kit. While most pieces are colored either appropriately for the anime or a realistically enough color to let it alone, there are a handful of pieces that do require some paint and are absolutely obnoxious.
http://lh6.ggpht.com/_Zspuwn4ZiN0/SyO0fHjaUTI/AAAAAAAAAkk/Dq-WD-et-DE/s800/p1000236.jpg
Here are the pilot and scaled figure stands. For reference from left to right, I've placed a US quarter, British 20p coin and a 100 yen coin. Admittedly, in most of my Gundam kits, I leave the cockpits closed, place an unpainted pilot in the seat and discard the remainder. However, Layzner's cockpit is translucent plastic, so even with it closed, you can still see into it. Judging against the size of the coins, cockpit-ready Eiji's pilot suit has some ridiculous detail involved in it. Standing-Eiji and Anna are at least one piece and a little larger but still have a fair bit of detail involved on them that, to me, would make painting far from an enjoyable experience. Fortunately, I can probably get away with ignoring the color guide for the pilot's chair and leaving the unit pilot-less and it'll still look good.
My other complaint is the inclusion of exceptionally small or odd shaped water soluble decals that may have to go in a tight space. While working with the hard pieces and fitting them together has been a dream, if there is anything that provides an irritating level of difficulty, it is the water soluble decals. While the level of detail on the decals themselves make the kit look fantastic, the amount of time they add to the build is frustrating - first positioning them and then waiting for them to dry - especially early in the build like here. While only working on three steps, I've probably got a couple of hours dedicated to this kit already. The kit also contain two sheets of stickers/seals for other details (like the eyes and all of the realistic 'intake' signs and warnings) so Bandai gets massive points for not including those ridiculous heat/pressure decals to ruining this kit.
Thumbing through the remainder of the build instructions, it looks like the exteriors of the kit are formed from several larger pieces but each section retains a high level of detail, similar to the head section. And while the kit is detailed, it is far from difficult. If the head acts as a guide for the overall build, this kit is going to be extremely enjoyable and looks like it's going to be fantastic once complete. If there's some Christmas money after the new year, I'm going to be hunting down the other kits in the Real Robot Revolution (R3) line. Bandai definitely has a winner here.

As I previously stated, I've taken the time in between Super Robot kits to assemble a Gundam model, but now I'm awaiting supplies to finish off detailing that one before I want to show it off. I've acquired a certain amount of confidence with waterslide decals due to successfully applying the ones that came with my Eva, but etching decals are a bit more tricky. Fortunately I was able to purchase a set of aftermarket waterslides to replace the decals I spoiled for my Gundam.
I think I like waterslides a bit more than etching decals.

There's the Getter-1 Mechanic Collection kit. I liked the Mazinger Z kit so much that I've ordered a couple more Mechanic Collection kits, which are Knightmare Frames from Code Geass. They were on sale, and I managed to get free shipping. :)
This kit seems to be very, very similar to the Mazinger Z kit. In fact, when I look at the instructions, it is clear that nothing much has changed other than the shape of some of the armour parts. The shared lineage of the two robots has never been so apparent.
There are 63 injection-molded plastic parts, and fourteen rubber parts this time. Five different colours on seven trees including the customary "multi-gate" tree, with several colours at once. Just as with the Mazinger kit there is a small assortment of screws, nuts and bolts, and as you've come to expect from Bandai, a sheet of foil stickers.
Really quite a small and simple kit, looks like it would be ideal for someone who just wanted to get started in this hobby. Shouldn't be too taxing as long as I am careful.

Might I ask which Mazinger Z is this? I've got a Fewture 1969 Mazinger Z reissue, and there seems to be some definite differences between yours and mine other than the changed paint style.
I collect lots of super robots. I've pretty much stopped buying model kits to focus more on metal figures, primarily the Soul of Chogokin line, but I've dabbled a bit into Aoshima and Fewture. Most recently, I picked up the SOC Daizengar/Aussenseiter. They're a bit disappointing sizewise at first, considering the cost of the set, but once combined, it looks pretty impressive on my shelf :P
I kinda want the Shin Mazinger Z with the Big Bang Punch.

There aren't a few things she spends money on that you question the value of, however privately? Besides, model kits are slightly different from toys, or at least you can try telling her that.
I have some more pictures for the thread, today! In fact, over the next couple of posts, I should have quite a few pictures, but there's a limit of five per post and I don't really want to double-post, so someone please reply to me!
You saw the unboxing of Getter-1, now I can show you the finished item. I'm quite pleased with how it turned out, for a minimum of effort. The proportions of the facial features don't seem quite right somehow, but it looks good enough!

Here's the plain, straight up shot of the completed model. The shape of the inset chest panels is a bit different than how I remember from last time I watched an episode of the anime. It still looks pretty decent, I'm happy!

I removed the Getter Mantle (cloak) to give you a better look at the rear view of the model. As I stated above, it looks a lot like the Mazinger Z model, structurally. Other than the head, it's really the same basic design. Of course we can't accuse Go Nagai of being lazy, since he also came up with two other designs for Getter Robo. Neither of which I own in kit or figure form, but watch this space...
http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y15/soluzar/Super%20Robot%20Models/th_100_1748.jpg (http://s2.photobucket.com/albums/y15/soluzar/Super%20Robot%20Models/?action=view¤t=100_1748.jpg)
This arrived today, and I told myself I wasn't going to build it right away. I was dead wrong, though. Yuusha Raideen is a personal favourite design of mine, and I got so carried away I made part of the head before I remembered to take an unboxing shot, so this is... a bit of a makeshift unboxing.
The kit is another one from the Mechanic Collection, and shares many aspects in common with the others. It has rubber parts, bolts, nuts and screws, and the structure is recognisably similar to Getter-1 and Mazinger Z. Not quite as similar to those two as they are to each other, but it is clear to see the common lineage of these kits.
Each of them has a torso that is bolted together with two flexible ball joints. The major joints are screwed together, and there is an inner skeleton underneath the armour. In that respect they are rather like the Gundam Master Grade model kits, although substantially less complex.
This particular kit has (at a rough count) 83 injection-moulded plastic parts, in six different colours. These come on five different trees, one of which is a multi-gate tree. There is also a tree of 8 rubber parts, although several of these are just alternate hands. That's also true of the other kits. You tend to get a rubber chest piece, a rubber crotch and two rubber feet, as well as a bunch of hands.
http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y15/soluzar/Super%20Robot%20Models/th_100_1752.jpg (http://s2.photobucket.com/albums/y15/soluzar/Super%20Robot%20Models/?action=view¤t=100_1752.jpg)
It is hard to know where to begin extolling the virtues of this model, for a Raideen fan! I'll start by saying that it can re-create most of the attacks you've seen in the series. Fortunately Raideen has a lot of equipment, rather than the energy or kinetic weapons of other robots.
This kit has a ton of option parts, some of which work better than others. What you can see here is the God Block shield on the right arm, and the God Gorgon bow in stowed mode on the left arm. That's only the beginning of what this kit comes with, but unfortunately I ran out of images for this post. You're only allowed five. I can't even include smilies, because of that limitation. I want to smile, damn it! I have robots, who wouldn't smile?
Several different equipment sets still to come! Also, my Revoltech Gaiking and Dancouga came. I've already taken pictures of Dancouga in DankuHo Formation and with the DankuKen! I'm still trying to pick some poses for Gaiking.

Although I'm not confident in my ability to bolt a model together!
Small bolts. Very small. Less than a centimetre long, in fact. They just hold the torso framework together. It's incredibly easy, it took me just one evening to assemble. It doesn't require paint for the most part, although arguably some parts would be greatly improved by it. For example the parts which are supposed to be red on one side and black on the other, like the God Block and the shoulder guards.
It doesn't take as much time as typical HGUC kit. There aren't as many intricate small parts as you normally find in a Gundam, for one thing. I know I'm not that great at model-building, so if I can do it in an evening...
Soluzar is now overdue for some sleep, but I'll edit this post with further images if I don't get another reply by the next
time I get chance to post. I've still got some more pictures to take, so I need a decent block of time to get posting.
Now it's time for me to fade into bed.
As promised, for the handful of people who might like to see these...

God Breaker sword, ready to slash through the enemy! This requires just swapping the short blade tip for the full-length blade, it's as easy as can be. In the anime the blade extends out of the shield, here it requires an option part.
http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y15/soluzar/Super%20Robot%20Models/th_100_1764.jpg (http://s2.photobucket.com/albums/y15/soluzar/Super%20Robot%20Models/?action=view¤t=100_1764.jpg)
This is the God Boomerang. This is a weapon Raideen can fire at the enemy and which will often slice right through weaker foes like Drome. You just have to replace the round outer part of the shield with a different piece. In the anime it just morphs to the new shape, but that technology has yet to be perfected for model kits.
http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y15/soluzar/Super%20Robot%20Models/th_100_1766.jpg (http://s2.photobucket.com/albums/y15/soluzar/Super%20Robot%20Models/?action=view¤t=100_1766.jpg)
Here we have God Gorgon, a bow which Raideen uses in the same manner as any archer would use one. The only difference being that Raideen's extended forefinger charges the tip of the arrow with Mysterious Energy™ before firing. The two pieces of the bow are normally folded back against Raideen's wrist. However, since they get a lot longer when they are deployed, it requires you to swap parts in model kit form. You also change Raideen's hands, since unlike Master Grade Gundam models, these hands are not articulated. In fact you even have to change Raideen's right forearm and elbow joint for one that will properly assume the bow drawing position.
http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y15/soluzar/Super%20Robot%20Models/th_100_1772.jpg (http://s2.photobucket.com/albums/y15/soluzar/Super%20Robot%20Models/?action=view¤t=100_1772.jpg)
Finally, we have God Bird mode, where Raideen's faceplate closes to reveal a bird-like visage, and the arms transform into wings. In kit form, as you might expect, the wings are option parts which will replace the arms. I had to use a small piece of cardboard to support the legs in their raised position, since the model won't quite balance like that on its own.
Like I said there are a ton of option parts. The model looks great in any given pose, but it is a bit less than perfect that if you ever want to change poses, you have to change several parts. I think I'm going to pick one and leave it like that for most of the time it is on display.
http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y15/soluzar/Super%20Robot%20Models/th_100_1860.jpg (http://s2.photobucket.com/albums/y15/soluzar/Super%20Robot%20Models/?action=view¤t=100_1860.jpg)
Last but by no means least, Revoltech Gaiking! Ahh, Gaiking... how doth I love thee? Let me count the ways... it is based on the new 2005 series, but the basic design hasn't changed much, if at all. It's still the same old Gaiking it ever was, only the characters are different... and boy, are they ever different.
The internet was being annoying for a while there, so let me know if any of these are broken links. I'm (once again) too tired to notice. Next up, Revoltech Dangcouga, and unboxing the Lancelot from Code Geass, but I don't know when I'll get to build it.

I'm considering it too, but I was told that this version (as compared to the other Shin Mazinger in the SoC line) has a lot less metal in the legs to allow for the big bang punch transformation. If its anything like the SoC Raideen (which had plastic collapsing legs), then I'm pretty sure I don't want it, since i hated the SoC Raideen. Pretty to look at, disappointing when handled. I'll probably wait for www.collectiondx.com to write a review before taking the plunge.

I got Goldymarg DX today, for Christmas. It's really pretty awesome. It transforms into Goldymarg, Goldytank, and the Marg Hand & Goldion Hammer. Of course it is intended to be used with the GaoGaiGar DX that I'm also getting, but that is still somewhere mid-Atlantic for now.
Goldymarg is pretty huge! I'm a little taken aback by how big he is, even in robot mode. He's about 9" tall, but the Goldion Hammer is even taller. When the handle is fully extended, the hammer is just over a foot in length! That means that presumably GaoGaiGar will be about the same size, only much wider. He'll definitely be the king of my shelf, as well as the King of Braves.

Even though it's not a kit, I thought I'd start with some unboxing shots, because... well, because it comes in several different pieces. As you can see, GaiGar is the main component, and can transform to Galeon. Gai himself is only present by implication, since you can't ever really see him one he has performed fusion. The additional parts are StealthGao, DrillGao and LinerGao, just as you'd expect. The two little bits you can see off to the sides are SteathGao's jet turbines which also serve as GaoGaiGar's forearms. The orange piece above LinerGao is a dividing driver.

First things first, GaiGar is cool... but there's a whole step prior to that in the process. I decided to transform GaiGar into Galeon for the first posed shot. It seems the right way to go about things. To capture each step in the process. I don't know how long it will be before I disassemble GaoGaiGar again, once Final Fusion is complete.

FUSION... AUTHORISED!
The basic form of the toy, GaiGar. It has a lot of hinged and jointed parts to accomodate various transformations, and the accuracy is high. I've been thoroughly impressed with this toy so far. I'll wait until after I've had a reply to post pictures of any other forms, since I've reached my limit for this post.
I'd be interested, if it doesn't cost more that 50 bucks.
Goldymarg alone wouldn't cost more than $50, but you probably wouldn't find the set for that much. My apologies for the lateness of my reply. If you search ebay for "Takara/Sonokong DX GaoGaiGar" you'll find a few different sellers have toys from this range.

Ehh... it was a fair chunk of change, but not a fortune. It was a present, so I didn't spend the money myself. It's definitely not a bootleg or cheap knockoff, Sonokong produce Takara/Tomy toy ranges under license, it is identical in all aspects other than the packaging to a Takara toy.

I just put together my first ever model kit! It's not a Super Robot but I wanted to post it anyway!
It's a SD MSN-04 Sazabi!

Of all the model kits in the world, why a SD Gundam series kit, and why Char's Sazabi, you ask? Well I thought it was cute and I wanted to start small. ;)
It's so dinky!

These little figures are more fun painting than I thought they would be. I don't get to work on models much since we had a baby nearly two years ago, but for the past couple years, I've been more interested in painting these little figures than working on the actual ships/mecha they come with. After priming them, I use Delta Ceramcoat acrylic paints thinned with water. Get a super fine brush and they're very fun! It turns out I'm better at painting these than I thought I would be.

Since it was 50% off, I just ordered the Soul of Chogokin GX-49 Shin Mazinger Z ^_^
I've been wanting a Mazinger for a while, and was glad to see it cheap, so I knew I had to pick it up. I wish the Dancouga SoC figure was cheaper :crybaby:

I've been holding off on posting GaoGaiGar because it is quite difficult for me to get a good picture. I only have a simple camera, and my hands do shake a little. This coupled with the highly reflective surfaces of the King of Braves has made it rather difficult.
http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y15/soluzar/Super%20Robot%20Models/th_100_1940.jpg (http://s2.photobucket.com/albums/y15/soluzar/Super%20Robot%20Models/?action=view¤t=100_1940.jpg)
Anyway, here ya go... it's a bit dark due to lack of flash. The flash seems to cause problems with the reflective surfaces, so I had to do without. You can just about see the dividing driver on his left arm, if I get access to a better camera I'll shoot some more pics which show that. It isn't the best part of the figure though.
In the mean time, here are some nice shots of my Revoltech Dancouga that I took a while ago.

An alternate angle for Danku-Hou formation.
I haven't really acquired any figures or built any kits suitable for this thread in a while. I've slowed down a bit, plus I've built a few MG Gundam and 1/100 HG Gundam kits in the mean time. I'll eventually get on with those Code Geass kits I have in my closet though, and I'm always interested in more!

Beating it in SRW4 without cheating/game overing with everyone level 50-60 was awesome though. Never failed a mission, killed Shuu at the end. :D

I did this Evangelion resin kit a few years ago but its still only 99% done since there's a few parts I haven't added yet. Even though the parts are all painted and only need to be glued on. I just never get around to it -_-;
Its dusty as hell and my photography & camera is crap so I hope to get proper images with it cleaned & 100% complete.

I'm working on a Guren Nishiki from Code Geass at the moment. It's hard going because many of the parts have a metalic finish. That means that gate marks need to be as small as possible. I wonder about matching the shades to touch up some small details. It also has a few transparent parts, which... really can't be touched up at all.
I think I can make a reasonable job of it, but not the best.
ETA: Job done. There are some parts which aren't as nice as I would like. The marks around the gates were a problem just as I suspected. A small degree of touch-up work would improve it immensely.
The large claw that the Guren uses is excellent. It was what drew me to the kit to begin with, and it does not dissapoint. I've got two other Code Geass kits in my closet right now, and I'm looking forward to eventually building Lancelot and Commander-type Vincent.
My next port of call though will be another Gundam...
It is pretty late right now so I won't add pictures just yet, but I will of course include them in a later post.
