BANGKOK - A teacher in Thailand was captured on film beating a 14-year-old student and bashing his head against a blackboard, sparking national outrage and pledges Tuesday from education officials to crack down on corporal punishment in classrooms.

The 50-second clip, filmed by a classmate using a mobile phone, was broadcast Monday on a nationally televised morning news program.

Well, there is a reason they score better on math and science test than we do. They also do it on a percent of a percent of the budget we have . To think we have been using chalkboards wrong all this time.

I think it might be because the livelihood of Thai chicks often depends on numbers. If they're good enough, they could grow up to be bar waitresses and add so fast that dumb foreigners don't know how much their bill really is, thereby making a profit at the end of the night.

This is one of those occurances where I see a news article and I think "Oh man, it's going to be someone from America\Europe that's teaching in Thailand inbetween buying bargirls." and when I see that it's just a native, the light returns to my eyes.

It looks as if the teacher went overboard (or did he) but when it comes to training, they take their national sport very seriously. In a case such as this, it must have been conditioning for a head-butt. Them shins are too overrated and overused as weapons.

I agree I've been in classes where some kids gave the teacher a really hard time. Then they wonder why they phail. But then you got 2 kinda teachers kinda like theres 2 kinda parents. They're teachers who are old school and won't play that crap, then theres younger teachers who relate more and try to be your friend. Those are the teachers that get walked all over but not in all cases. I remember I had a teacher back in 4th grade and man did she have all the kids in order, NOONE screwed wit that woman /heh

In my opinion experience is the best teacher, The student should understand the pain he will receive under his own carelessness. He should then realize that it wasn't a smart thing to do in the first place and thus hope to never do it again.

You know in Portugal wayyyy back in my first school (which goes from year 1 to 4 over there), the teacher(s) were apparently aloud to slap you...all of the teachers over there were women but still.

I'm sure the laws changed but thats still pretty horrible, obviously.
