Jedi leader banned by Tesco (http://www.metro.co.uk/news/article.html?Jedi_leader_banned_by_Tesco&in_article_id=740264&in_page_id=34)
Jedi church member Morda Hehol kicked out of Bangor supermarket
The leader of Britain's first Jedi Church has hit out at Tesco for throwing him out of one of its stores because he was wearing a hood.
Daniel Jones, 23, whose Jedi name is Morda Hehol, told supermarket staff he was required to wear it on religious grounds.
But he was informed he represented a 'security risk' and was turfed out of the Bangor branch in North Wales.
Now Mr Jones is accusing Tesco of religious discrimination.
"I'll advise worshippers to boycott Tesco if it happens again", he told The Sun.
"They will feel the Force", he added.
A Tesco spokesman said: "We would ask Jedis to remove hoods. Obi-Wan Kenobi, Yoda and Luke Skywalker all went hoodless without going to the Dark Side."

Uhh, yeah. Never mind how ridiculous it is to practice the Jedi way as a religion, he's doing it wrong anyway. The films don't show the Jedi as having a compusive need to wear hoods.

If hoods are required gear for Jedi do the members of the Church of Sith have to wear Snuggies?

Crap like this really makes me question what is it about these movies that make people act this way? What is it about anything that gets people to think "yeah, this really screwed up behavior will make me look so cool!"
Is there an answer to that?

Tesco has it right. Wearing hoods (masks, or anything else that covers the face/head) is considered a security risk by many stores, even in America. Go to your local mall wearing a hood (especially a big one that covers your whole head) and chances are good a security guard will ask you to take it off or ask you to leave.

It is hardly a new phenomenon to make new religions. And over here it only requires 20 registrators to form registrated religion with all the legal benefits and disadvantages associated with forming one.
And for the sake of general fairness towards all religions: They all do share a common feature when it comes down to the fictitious nature of their religious texts.

The only reason I would advocate physical violence toward the "Jedi" in question is because I fear that he'd never get the hint from the lifetime of constant ridicule he so richly deserves.
It's sad, but he really needs to be punched in the face. Repeatedly. In shifts, to prevent the punchers from getting any sort of repetitive motion injury.

Actually you can tie the Star Wars story, to real religions like Buddhism (of cource they are not exact, and I'm probably shooting myself in the foot again saying facts that aren't true, but hell I'm a nutcase so it's legal.) and governmental pursuits like communism. The 3rd Reich, which the Empire was based off of (Now I start the Conspiracy theory BS), is just a little part of the theme.
And clearly the guy is doing it wrong, the Jedi wouldn't pursuit judgment based on what other people think of him, that is taking a step into the dark side of the force and would make Yoda say stuff like "Do not share feelings to these not seen Star Wars losers. Feelings lead to anger, anger, leads to hate, Hate leads to the power of the dark side, Blah blah blah"

Actually, we could break down what the Jedi in the movie consider a religion and what Real Life could actually use from it,
Obviously the force isn't anywhere close to us, so any Jedi mind tricks and force jumps are out of the question.
however, learning a martial art is available, and the idea of learning a strict and highly noble point of view, the Real World Jedi culture could very respectable.
The only thing that sets the Jedi in the movie, apart from people in the real world, is they are enforced by a special power that takes years of training to master, and yet also takes considerable amount of wisdom to understand and respect it, not just simply do what you want with it.
This guy is obviously thinking too Comic Book Conventional to make his idea of the Jedi world something to even conceive.

SO people here think it is OK to tell a man to remove his head garment of choice, that is required by his religion, yet it is NOT ok to do so to Muslim women?
THis Jedi thing is still a religion and if the store is not going to respect his religions beliefs then then need to tell Azeeza Suicide Vest to remove her head scarf or Burka.
They don't even have to remove them for photo IDs or police custody photos

But, then he wouldn't be calling himself a Jedi. He wouldn't be claiming that it's a religion. He wouldn't be dressing like a movie extra. He'd be leaning an actual martial art, and he'd be calling that martial art by its name.
As it stands, he IS dressing like a movie extra, calling it a religion and calling himself a Jedi. If he's learning a martial art, he's not saying.
Deserving of absolute ridicule and optional punching. Preferably by a martial arts instructor.
