Im not sure if we already have one of these, if we do then I apologize and just delete the thread.

Anyway, this is all about your past and present job experiences. Whether its a good one or a bad one. Feel free to vent about your day at work or maybe if you've done something really good, feel free to share it as well.

I'll start. I used to work for this litigation company. I wont disclose the name of the company for privacy reasons but this is probably by far the worst job I've ever done. Basically my job is to look over documents thats sent to us by companies. We proof read these documents checking for errors and possible infringements (especially patents). It is a boring job. Our boss was a total douchebag who doesnt allow us to listen to music or even have a phone on the work floor. All of our computers have internet but its monitored and we cant even check personal emails. I think the only good thing about this job was that it pays $15/hour..

At least working over the weekend, no one's around so I can sort of slack off.

Hmmm.... I run a coffee shop, put in at least 80 hours a week, my one day off per week is spent sleeping, and I work with the public all day long.

And yet, I have my soul back, after having worked in software for years.

Compared to cubeland, this is an awesome job, and I'm having a blast.

My worst job was working in a nursing home, but I value the experience because no matter how bad any job I've ever had has been, I've always been able to take comfort in the fact that my job wasn't as bad as the nursing home job. Even when I walked into a cloud of fuming acid and ended up burning my nose and eyes - it still wasn't as bad as the nursing home.

My main gripe about my work? Oh that's an easy one. Two of my bosses have hot, legal aged daughters. SMOKING hot in fact. They wouldn't even need makeup to be drop dead gorgeous. Except one has blonde hair and brown eyes and the other has brown hair and hazel eyes.

I hate the "boss's hot daughter" scenario. It's horrible.

My workplace has really changed a lot recently. They got a big contract and hired a ton of people, the client for the project I have built and maintained over many years is moving on, and I mostly end up with minor jobs which no-one cares about. It's worrying. They just made someone redundant too, the first since 2001, and he was the only guy who's worked in the company for longer than me. I am fairly worried. I wish I knew more of these new people; the company has pretty much doubled in size and I don't know who most of them are anymore. I also wish they were better at giving me training. More than "You should learn [X]. Go on, learn it". I feel like I'm being left behind. :( Then again, it seems like a lot of the new technologies are just being used because they are fashionable rather than progressive technology.

I want my job to go back to normal! Whatever that was...

oh man, i don't know how ya do it. i could never work at one of those. they are so creepy.
i knew this girl years ago that used to work at one. one day she needed a lift from work, so i went there to pick her up.
i get into the building and creepy old people are everywhere.

some are asking me if i am there grandson. some are asking me to show them where the bathroom is (and don't understand that its my first time here).
AND there was this one old person sitting in a rocking chair in a fetal position, staring at the wall and rocking back and fourth quickly.
looked like somthing from a horror flick.

as for me, i have never kept a crappy job, and never will. from ages 16-20 i probably had 30 different jobs. i normaly got fired for talking back to the boss and/or the customer. why you ask? because i REFUSE to take crap for low pay. if i'm gonna let my boss talk down to me, its only gonna be because he's paying me WELL.
see, the amount of crap i will take is directly related to the amount of pay i get......and those first 30 jobs were low-paying.

life its too important to spend 40+ hrs a week doing something you hate. thats HALF your life (considering sleeping is not life) you spend at/in a crappy place. not worth it imo, unless the pay is REALLY......REALLY good.

my current job is not bad, not good, just ok. i don't mind it, but don't love it either, and they pay is pretty good.

Totally get you on that. I mean some of us unfortunately have to work out of necessity and cant really pick the job that they want or rather dont qualify for it at the time. But we gotta do what we gotta do and pay our bills and fun our lifestyle rigtht? I can work at a job that I really dont like but as long as it pays me well enough to afford everything that I need and want in life, then its ok.

I just avoid the creepy, hitting ones. There's one residing on my floor at the moment whose room I refuse to go into because she whales on people.

I just keep my mind on getting done everything so I don't get too depressed over seeing things. Hell, I've even seen dead bodies here.

I'd quit, but I need money for bills and a place to live. :) Pay-wise, it's actually the best job I've had.

I'm a cashier at a Grocery Store. My biggest complaint are that my managers are always telling me to give the customers what they want. Like using month expired coupons, letting customers return items they bought a month ago without a receipt, letting customers steel shopping carts then telling me to go retrieve them, and finally, telling me I can't get promoted until I smile more:angry:

Don't get me started on that. My uncle did two tours in Vietnam as a Marine on the ground and to this day almost 40 years later, he still won't talk about it. When he came back the second time in 1971, He said he was told that it wasn't smart to walk though the airport in uniform. Being the life long Marine that he was to be, that didn't stop him.

However, I do remember him coming back from Desert Storm and making the remark to my Dad about how different it was when he came back home after it was all over. I'll never forget him talking about having people walk up to him, shake his hand, and telling him that they appreciated what he had done. Even with that, He would simply reply that He was just doing his duty as a Marine.

I've found this to be sometimes true, but not in all cases. One of my grandpas was an Army grunt, been through Korea and Vietnam, retired as a 1stSgt. He told me stories when I was a kid, and he's a pretty friendly guy. His hearing's a bit shot through a combination of age and his career choice though. At the time I enlisted, everybody and their mom was like "don't do it, Iraq is bad right now, etc. etc." Yet my grandpa was the only one that condoned my decision with enthusiasm. Funny how that works.

The severity of PTSD (or post traumatic stress syndrome) really depends on the coping skills of the person. Some people can deal with the stress during combat and the scars (emotional and physical) that are left behind at the aftermath while others are so overwhelmed by it that it affects them for the rest of their lives. Compare to what I've been through, its nothing to what the Vietnam vets had to endure.

^happened to me a few times brother. My former CO from a few years ago sent us for the BUST instructors course so we can teach the BN while we're in the rear at mout town and again during cax. Well after the course was done, we gave him a debrief and he had a lot of questions. They were mainly general question about room clearing procedures. Then he threw a question about whether we use EPW tags were to be used. Obviously the answer is yes but then he asked about what kind of info the tags required.. Well to be honest, at the time I didn't remember and the epw tags was not covered at the course. So the CO made a big thing about it and we had to get a sample tag and do a class about it.

Did I just use a lot of acronyms? My bad.. But yea, our old CO was a total douche.

Worse. Once worked for a guy who asked a million questions about everything, and then complained because I was "boring him with technical details". Well, ya know... there isn't a non-technical answer to some questions...

I'm happy to simplify it and just give you the "big picture" answer, but if you go on and ask the "little detail" questions, you're going to get "little detail" answers.

Please don't belittle me for doing exactly what you told me to do, which is explain.

Sucks when you work for a guy that wants you to talk in a "certain way" and if he doesn't like it, you're wrong. Oh well. If peers try to pull that crap I can be more smart-allecky, like

"You're boring me with all those details."
"Don't want details? Then don't ask mother****er!"

Every night at work is a series of moments and instances that make my rage continue to grow. I work as an overnight stocker at a crappy massive retail store that is known for their 'everyday low prices' (hint hint).
The people there are moody and they all hate their job. The managers expect more than humanly possible. They expect you to get four and a half pallets of freight plus one rollcart done in three hours. No way. Impossible. That's just one example I can think of that shows how silly they are. There is one woman there who will literally raise her voice to us if we don't get it done. She's a support manager that was demoted because of how she treated her employees. They need to just get rid of her.

I was a cashier on evenings before and it was a lot more fun and was much easier. On nights, time goes so slowly because the work is tedious. I prefer interacting with customers more than the boredom of constant solitary work.

On a happier note, I have an interview for a hospital job this week. It's an operator type job. It pays a lot more and the benefits are awesome.
