View Full Version : So I tried to give a stray cat a flea bath

That was not a good idea. she scratched me pretty good. I ended up just throwing her in the shower and spraying her *** from a distance lol. But we had to do it. The neighborhood kids have been abusing the cat, kicking it and hitting it with their bikes. I couldn't stand watching the animal abuse, so I'm having my sister take the cat in and I'll be paying for it's food and things it needs.

If I ever saw kids hitting a cat with their bikes, I'd hit them with mine without hesitation or remorse. Kids would be hurt, and I guarantee their bikes wouldn't be working so well afterwards.

"Oh, I'm sorry, officer.... the children swerved to hit a cat and went right in my path. I tried to avoid them, but I couldn't stop in time. I do hope they're all right."

I don't how you arrived at "it needs a flea bath" after observing abuse (as opposed to taking Desslock's path), but good on you for the compassion.

My sister is taking in the cat because it's being abused. So when you take a stray cat in with fleas, you give it a flea bath.

Most strays do need a flea bath, no matter how much they will hate it. Especially if they are going to live indoors from then on. Once they are in a clean environment there are preventative measures against flea infestation...

I'm inclined to agree with Desslock, although sadly I don't ride a bike.

Screw the bike. I'd just punch the kids and tell the officer that they happened to run into my fist.

Abusing animals isn't cool.

Ah. The position that "take the cat in" occurs in your paragraph made me think it transpired last in sequence, like you bathed it (for some reason) and then figured you might as well keep it too. I can't have pets anywhere I've lived so far, so it's not an intuitive process for me.

What's wrong with it? Most cats will run away if you do things like kick them or hit them with bikes

Unless it's a stray cat from the city called Playa del Carmen. Those animals have the IQ of a peanut. Must be from the seriously bad case of inbreeding because all of the cats look the same to boot (they are all shorthairs with wrangly bodies and are either black or calico). I was surprised to actually see a Siamese cat once when I was there.

With my power of authority, I would have grabbed the kids by their ears forced out of their little mouths where in the hell did they live on the threat I'd kill them (showing a concealed gun to their little faces will sure tell em!) and go tell their mothers what they were doing and now that I know where they live if I ever catch them doing something like that ever again, next time I'll bring them to the police and have them arrested for animal abuse. let's see if their dreams of getting a college education with an animal abuse criminal record will hold out. I'd even post photos of them and their personal information on public websites so that animals lovers all over the country can go to their homes and throw rock and eggs all day and death threaten them as they please.

Too bad in Mexico animal cruelty isn't just legal, it's a national hobby.

I'm an expert on stray cats cuse I pick em up all of the time! You wash stray cats in bath tubs with warm water and shampoo, grab them firmly by the neck or have a volunteer grab their arms and legs firmly but not hurting them. Since I'll be grabbing their neck they can't bite you. I've seen most strays are too dumb to give much of a fight and just grabbing them firmly but gently by the neck with sufficient water gives the trick. Kinds of hard to scratch you when the water in the tub is so high they have to swim to stay afloat. Buy flea shampoo or soap before the bath!! After the bath they should wear a flea collar to kill the ones that weren't killed to avoid your own house from getting filled with fleas. If you plan on keeping it, be sure it gets it's vaccines.

You should have hit the kids. Use their bikes as clubs. Seriously, those kids are begging t have their jaws smashed in.

Does abusing the kids count as witness protection against animal cruelty?

PETA would be proud of you Desslock.

If I ever see one of the hundreds of little kids that live in my complex abusing a cat, I'd beat the **** out of them...and since I'm friendly with most of their parents, their parents would beat the hell out of them.

There's a woman in my complex though that takes care of this one big cat that just hangs on her patio all day. And the other one that hangs out there sometimes is this tiny Calico with one eye, who's also the most nicest cat. I'd take in one of them (they both have gotten to know me to the point where they will come up to me for a pet) but I'm allergic.

Maybe you can take the cat to the pet shop or vet clinic that can do that, or so you can get meds for flea at the vet office too. Frontline is good though, just let the vet take care of the kitty for that. :3

It's an animal...Why would you abuse children for abusing animals? That's like giving the death penalty for theft, right? Or am I just throwing out fallacies?

You are very noble for taking in this cat, though. I wish you the best of luck.

Well, on the one hand, you hear all these stories of cats having survived being accidentally shipped/transported throughout the country, and sometimes intercontinental (the one cat that ended up in France).

Yet, on the other hand, having worked at a shipping company, I've known workers to...what's the phrase I'm looking for... *channeling my inner-Soulja Boy*-Yes! 'go ham' on the freight. ;)

Soooo, 50/50, I like those odds, let's do this thing! :ssj: Orrrrr, just leave them in a cute little basket outside of your local humane society. If you bring them in yourself, there's money to be paid, and they'll give you the evil eye. 'Lazy, irresponsible bastards not spaying their animals!' They'll never believe you took in a stray, it's their nature. *Nods* :uhh:

Seriously, try taking some time to interview folks before passin' 'em out all Milli Vanilli-like, I hate to see animals orphaned.

Well now I have more problems than just kittens

When I caught this cat. we took it to our animal shelter, to see if anyone was looking for this cat. We left it there, and today we found out no one picked it up so we went back to get the cat before they sent it off somewhere else. I told my sister that she better take care of this cat or I'll take the cat away and give it back to the shelter. I told both my sister and nephew that they better not leave the cat alone all the time. Right before we picked the cat up my nephew left with his dad, which irritated me. But hey my sister would be home to watch the cat. And not even an hour after my sister got the cat home, she left to the bar. Now she's too drunk to come home. Now the cat is locked in my sisters bathroom by herself with some food and hopefully water. The cat is probably so scared being in a strange new place by herself, trapped in a little room....

So now I have to decide if I'm going to take away the cat or give her a second chance. argh what I really want to do, is hit that *****.

Why is the cat in the bathroom?

Because most bathrooms don't have carpets and are easy to clean if the cat messes.

What the cat, or the Kid?

Honestly this is where I would rant about girls, but I think I'll leave this one be.

Personally, I'd bring it back to the shelter and let your sister take it back.

If she doesn't then you don't have a cat =/

Because most bathrooms don't have carpets and are easy to clean if the cat messes.

I have a Spray Bottle and a Rolled-Up Newspaper, choose your punishment.

One does not leave an adult cat...well, any animal, really, cooped up in a tiny, (and depending on the time of month/number of infants/elderly/incontinent persons in the home/type of garbage receptacle/and the overall hygiene of the family) smelly bathroom. Dag forbid the litter box was in there, at the time, that could 'possibly' lead to real elimination issues. *Nods*

I wouldn't advise giving a new animal the run of your home, but gommit, the best you can do with an adult cat is hope it's CAT enough to instinctively use the gommed litter box. If not, a-ho-ho, that's unfortunate. Not puppy training, folks.

I'd take the cat back. It's obvious that your sister doesn't care.

The poor thing is probaly going to be peeing and pooing all over until it gets settled down...but locking it in a bathroom seems cruel.

well I decided to just let my sister keep the cat. I guess she did let it in to the rest of the house before she left. I still think it's bs she left an hour after she got the cat. But I'll see how goes. it's not like she beating the animal. with that being said here is a new pic of the cat
