Studio Ghibli collection: Limited editions

Just thought I would post some news regarding special editions of studio Ghibli titles. Recently I stumbled upon a 2 disc limited edition tin release of Ponyo on ebay Singapore, a welcome English friendly alternative to the HK dvd.

Now, it turns out that Singapore-based distributor SIMPLY FUN have released not only just Ponyo, but a whole slew of other Ghibli titles: All in wonderfully made limited edition tins, sporting anamorphic picture on dvd-9's and bonus goodies. I've ordered a few of these myself, and for anyone else interested, here's a link to the home page of Simply fun:

These are legitimate releases and the video and audio quality is reported to be very good, but I'm not certain about the English subs yet. I'll post back on the forum when my copies arrive in a week or two.

My Ponyo on the cliff by the sea and My neighbours the Yamadas limited edition tins arrived from Singapore today, and let me say that these are GREAT! Smaller and thinner than I initially thought, but wonderful collector's items all the same! Checked the video quality briefly, and on my Samsung 42" it looked EXCELLENT! The english subs seemed well timed and professional as well!

One minor gripe: The disc on the inside of the tins are held in place by a rather weak plastic tray (my Ponyo disc had come lose during transport), so for anyone ordering these, ask for additional bubble wrap padding inside the tin boxes. Or have the seller place them in separate cd sleeves / pockets.
