Sappersix, Tref, Bernard, sorry...couldn't resist. You know this site deserves its own thread.

http://peopleofwalmart.com

One of my favorites:

http://media.peopleofwalmart.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/09/163.jpg

Somebody's response:

That one was so beautiful it brought a tear to my eye. Classic americana. Just like the welling of pride that comes while standing at a baseball game, hand over heart during the national anthem. Or fireworks on the 4th, grace before a thanksgiving meal, or watching the ball drop on new years eve. So too did those same patriotic feelings arise as I looked at the picture of that man, that beautiful american man shopping from his electric cart cuz like most americans he was too fat to walk for half an hour, as he cruised the aisles unabashedly advertising his hatred of homosexuals. Only in this country, my country. Land of the free, home of the brave, America the beautiful.

Yeah I read that website frequently. I don't have a Walmart near me, this makes me glad that I do not but I also get to see the interesting aspects of Walmart with out having to see them in person.

You kidding? Anytime I was home on leave I made it a point to drive to Walmart at midnight just to interact with the baggy-eyed zombies as they labored. It was a helluva sight to see.

I dont understand how people who are physically able to do something about their physical well being fails in doing so because of their lack of motivation and lazy. It's really not hard to keep yourself in shape even if you lack the time to do so.

Spadesy
September 17th, 2009, 11:46 PM
Some people just seriously don't care about staying healthy, let alone staying in shape. People tend to let themselves go after marriage.

Ever been to the PX, and seen that morbidly obese LCpl's wife who, just a year ago, had a great body? I certainly have.

Jack_Bauer

I've probably seen that LCPL who was a year ago in shape and now probably the same size as his wife... Unfortunately even in the Corps. laziness is spreading. Im getting up there myself in terms of age but I try my damn best to keep myself fit. Even in humps, I can still keep up and run around to motivate everyone.

Not true. I know plenty of people who are married and didn't let themselves go. After a few kids then yes the number increases for many, but this isn't always the case.

I went through that site and was amazed to find a picture from the Wal-Mart I worked at last summer. I noticed someone who looked a lot like a coworker (it was a picture of the meat department, which was where I had worked, as well)...but what really made me realize it was that I recognized a woman who was only 3/4ths in the frame, because she *****ed me out over nothing.

In the UK we have Asda which is basically Wallmart Uk and would probably just be as bad.

September 19th, 2009, 04:22 AM
The main changes I've seen since Asda got taken over by Wal Mart are:

* The clothes are now far cheaper than it ought to cost to ship them here. Also, they are entirely made of misc fuzz.

* A lot of the own brand food doesn't seem to be entirely made out of food the way it used to be. It's still better than most of Tesco's own brand, though!

* Every time you go into Asda Walmart, someone near the entrance is artificially cheerful at you in a disgenuine way that makes you want to smash their face in.

* I always see at least 2 or 3 shoppers who must be 300 - 350lbs, and they move about slowly with glazed eyes, like cattle grazing in a field. Different people each time. It makes me feel really skinny.

Other than that, it's about the same as it's always been. No-one solvent-abusing in the aisles.

I mostly shop at Somerfields or little independant shops these days though.

American Walmart seems like its own little world, at least, how it's portrayed to someone who's never visited one.

I used to live in a small town and our Wal-Mart there wasn't bad at all. I didn't understand what everyone was talking about. Now that I live in the city, I've seen my fair share of complete weirdos there. Maybe I should stop going there. I'll have to go out and hunt for a grocery store. I don't think I've come across one near where I live yet.

HEY! I shop there sometimes! its very convenient, its 24 hours (at least my location), its cheap and there are some pretty good stuff I can get there. Walmart is really not that bad. As long as you can put up with some of the lazy employees and the other rednecks that practically lives there (no offense to all you wal-rats)

wal mart is very weird and in america its even weirder. One time I went in there and all I here is chit chatter in other languages and stuff its like holy crap are we in america anymore o_o People are also dumb because they stand around and block aisles like they got all day and some people don't have all day. Oh yea and I'll never forget that one person who tawked some kinda crap to my mom when she only had 2 bottles to return to the thingy and this guy has 500. Oh how I am MUCH more polite when mom is present.

well you'd think it'd get annoying when you gotta hear your frikking bank statements in spanish and press 2 or whatever to continue in english. I mean don't get me wrong I got NOTHING against spanish people I have mexican friends but I mean really. If your American and you went to a non english speaking country you wouldn't even be able to get away wit that crap elsewhere. Only in america you can slide by witout even knowing the spoken language.

The reason we argue about language in America, is becuase we are a country brought up on communication. It would take too much time to teach old people how to understand a new language just to work with them. Since English just happens to be the language that most people speak in this country (typically the White collar business people) :Spanish speakers are going to have a fit with me: they would rather have you speak a language that everyone understands.

It sounds silly at first and kind of rude when people said "Speak English in America" but really when it comes down to work and economy, verbal language is the one thing that people want to understand when dealing with communication.

So basically what I'm saying is, if you're not supporting the idea that America should have a unified Language then we should not communicate with the people who can't speak it? Thus defeating the purpose of a united nation?

well its always nice to look into and learn another language and stuff but when it literally gets to the point where someone just looks at you off the street expecting you to know there language and there in this country then its just like whadafrik. And me personally I didn't even take a language in school so all I know is english for the most part, but then being that most people who do take other languages 50% chance says they'll even retain half 'a what they learn outside 'a the classroom sure they would have a better chance but that doesn't mean they're gonna be like ok yea to having to speak the other language all the time.

I remember reading about the subject on the CNN site some time ago. It is a unique perspective on American culture that seems to have targeted certain characteristics that stand out. Although, if I remember correctly, they did have another purpose in mind which escapes me at the moment.

It looks as though there was a whole new subculture being nurtured and maintained right under our very noses! Even though said in jest, I find that consumers have despicable attitudes and ways about them. Wal-Mart has a very loyal following due to it's affordable merchandise, and depending on what part of the country, the customer base possess traits that have caught the attention of people with a special sense of humor.

In the Midwest, the bigger stores with the later hours and actual supermarkets have their place in the convenience portion of a shopper's mindset. The smaller stores in other parts of the country seem to remind me of standard retailers of clothes and electronics all in one cozy little spot.

2^Wholesalers and co-op farm fresh markets are usually cheaper, or at the least highly competitive with walmart. So why do more people shop at walmart instead of Costco, Kohls, and other cheaper places?
Marketing aimed at people who didn't read the news paper article that specified a number of reasons why some of the schools are underfunded (one of the reasons would be corporate tax evasion for which law is written to prevent.) Now who has a big enough legal team to devise schemes to intentionally circumvent corporate taxes?

But I guess it's not that big a deal, at least we get cheaper products, and when Walmart's sales drop and the E-board files for bankruptcy (via more legal circumventing) and fires everyone to walk away with 100's of millions of dollars (you see the oxymoron right?) in the form of a dividend, we can say it was good while it lasted :) .

Becuase although it sells a lot of things for a good price, in my experience it does not sell all the things I want.

For example, my Dad shops at Sam's Club, a branch warehouse owned by Wal*mart, you can get like a lot of a certain item, like 6 giant sized bottle of ketchup.

My peeve about Sam's Club is they only sell 1 or 2 varieties of a product, (Example, Yoplay Yogurt only comes in a giant box of Peach and Strawberry)
I like Peach and I'm sick of Strawberry yogurt, but that's all they sell at Sam's.

I don't understand why some people hate Wal-Mart so much.

I have had more problems with the employees there than anything. Like one time I was returning something; there's a huge lineup near the damn door and only one person is working. The other was calmly eating her damn lunch and chit-chatting on the phone.

They never have enough people working on the registers, which is a *****.

And they're nasty as f**k. They're ignorant.

As for why people hate Wal-Mart, for years, it's had a reputation for a place where white trash go to shop. Well...it still does judging from that site...

They also make music artists edit themselves in order to get on the shelves, which ain't right.

I think there is more to it than just the employees and the people who shop there. The Walgreens conglomeration, is fed by various people, and the ones who seem to be attracted to it the most are the poorer class people. The ones who really could care less about their well being.

And the employees they higher are cheep labor, they'll give anyone a job even if they found them off the street, becuase well it's an unskilled job, there's no tests there's no college degree requirement, it's just a conglomeration built by whoever they can pay to work there.

the store itself is so big that they don't have to worry about who's doing what in the meat end of the job.

I work at Wal-Mart. I see many strange people....like the fat man who comes in every night on the electric cart. Or the jerk that likes to reguarly cuss out employees.
Lots of rednecks and hoosiers here too.

There is also an old lady that comes in sometime who always wears horribly mismatched clothes, has bozo red hair, and too much makeup. She always walks around all the registers to pick up change.

I was a cashier on evenings. Now I'm a stocker on overnights. The nighttime customers are always the strangest. Lots of drunk people and stoners.

I've getting a new job soon. I can't wait to get out of there.

So, wait. I'm unhealthy because I shop at the cheapest store around? If that ain't a load of horse crap I don't know what is. Fat people are AVERYWHERE. Get over it.

They sell every major brand of ANYTHING in the US. You can go pay more for your Pepsi elsewhere. It's not like their product is ran through
a vat of toxic waste before it's sold to you. I've bought the same exact things you have bought for a fraction of the price.

By the way, I'm a supervisor at a Wal Mart. Yes, they treat employees bad. Yes they generally get the crowd of Red Necks in there as well. But honestly? Who doesn't. If you think Wal Mart is the worse you've seen then maybe you should get out more. If I do remember the picture threads in the PB&G section I don't think this site can really talk much about physical appearance either.

PS: The fact that people are making fun of other people IRL, on an Anime message board is LOLable.
