Ah, I didn't think it'd be long before we heard this news. The last images I saw of him, he looked like he'd not only knocked on Death's Door, but he'd been invited inside for tea and cookies.

He wasn't that old... I mean sure, 57 isn't young, but you can expect to live past that if you remain healthy. I'm shocked, I don't pay much attention to celebrity news so I didn't realise he was suffering from cancer.

cue the song "Time of my Life". Cause he did have the time of his life and though he died at 57, Im sure he had a great time.

edit: He was diagnosed with stage IV pancreatic cancer a few months ago. Its too bad because if it were detected earlier, he would have had a fighting chance.

For a second, I pondered posting this...

Now I've had the time of my life
No I never felt like this before
Yes I swear it's the truth
and I owe it all to you

We owe it all to you. R.I.P. Patrick Swayze

Just because it would be so unbearably cheesy but I decided against it.

He will be buried at Partisan Rock and and his grave marker will be a simple boulder with his name scratched on it.

He did pretty well considering that he was given a week to live about 18 months ago.

I think I only ever saw him in Ghost. He was already dead...

How sad about Patrick. Well, it's not like it came out of the blue like with Gene Upshaw, former head of the NFL player's union who was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer back in August of last year then died less than a week later. I too will watch Roadhouse in memory of Mr. Swayze who I'm sure had the time of his life. Rest in peace.

Only Death puts Baby in a corner.

EDIT: He wasn't the best actor but his films were entertaining.

WOLVERINES!!!
One of my favorite movies of all times.

Sigh..man just heartbreaking. I was fortunate enough to be able to him in the A&E series The Beast not too long ago. It was just a privilege to see him on TV one more time.
I truly will miss Patrick.

RIP and thank you for you did in this lifetime.

2009: The year the 80s died?

Yeah really.

Between Michael Jackson, Bea Arthur, Farrah Fawcett and now Swayze, it's like everyone popular around that time is gone.

So now that Swayze and Cronkite are both gone, who's next?

Larry Hagman.

Sad about Swayze passing, he seemed like a generally all around nice guy onscreen and off. Have to go watch Uncommon Valor again.

People are still talking about MJ dieing, but Patrick Swaze was an actor who died a very slow death. It was a horrible way to go. This is the type of person who we should be upset about, not some freak.

RIP Patrick.

Don't forget Walter Cronkite and uber pitchman Billy Mays. 2009 has been one hell of bad year for celebrity deaths. And there's still three plus months left.

True, but I was speaking only as far as 80s legends go. Otherwise I would have mentioned Steve McNair too...

There is a Kayne West joke about this.............

"Patrick Swayze, I know you just died and all and Imma let you finish but Michael Jackson's death was the best one this year."

You get the picture.

edit: He was diagnosed with stage IV pancreatic cancer a few months ago. Its too bad because if it were detected earlier, he would have had a fighting chance.

Pancreatic cancer is a death sentence. Period. It doesn't matter if you were diagnosed at stage 1, it's a death sentence because it's so aggressive and chemo doesn't really do much against it. Unless it's of one of the highly rare endocrine subtypes, you're guaranteed death in 6 months. Few people survive 1 year and 5 years is like 0.2%. Your only chance of short term survival is a dangerous and difficult surgery called a Whipple that very few doctors all over the world do very well that actually gives you a decent chance of a few months. It's not that you can't teach people how to do it, but everyone knows the surgery's success rate is based on surgeon experience. The more Whipples you do, the higher the chances you won't die on the operation table. Basically they remove most of your stomach, half your small gut and all of your pancreas and tons of attaching tissue. You end up with type 1 diabetes because the pancreas was removed and need a special diet.

I'm surprised he lasted so long actually. Pavarotti also survived a pretty long time with the disease. Most kinds of cancer are curable at early stages, but pancreatic cancer is one of the few that give you no good news no matter how early it's detected. The hoot also is that it doesn't give you any syptoms in early stages either.
