I had an idea regarding insurance the other day. it goes like this:
We all know the old argument against insurance, right? Having insurance is supposed to decrease personal risk in the even of an unforseen event, but in reality, many forms of insurance encourage riskier behaviour. A person might treat his prized sports car with a lot more care if he knew that he was going to be financially responsible for any damage to the vehicle, but with insurance, he can say, "Eh, I'm insured" and drive a little crazy.
The same happens with flood or hurricane insurance. A person builds a half-million dollar residence in a hurricane zone, knowing that if the worst happens and a big hurricane levels the place, he can at least recoup what he's lost. Sure, he pays through the nose for premiums, but would he build the same house if he knew that he wasn't going to get a dime when it gets destroyed? Would he be inclined to rebuild after the first destruction? I don't think so.
So my idea for insurance reform (for types of insurance dependent on the insured's actions) is this: You have full coverage for any losses that you cause anyone else in an accident or disaster, but you don't get a dime for yourself. The accident is your fault? One of your passengers and the other driver were injured, and you have a six-month hospital stay? Fine. The other driver and your passenger are covered, but you get nothing for your vehicle or medical expenses. Should'a been paying attention to the road, instead of texting, idiot. Now you've ruined your life for a bit, and... too bad for you. May your crippled body be a lesson to the next idiot.
Built your home in a flood zone? Well, it's gone now. House got destroyed by a hurricane? Huh. Maybe you shouldn't have put such a big expensive house there; it would've been a lot easier to replace a simple beach cottage.
Basically, let's insure people against harming one another, but let's not try to protect idiots from themselves.
Thoughts?

What happens if you are permanently injured by an idiot who isn't insured?
Why would people ever fork out money for insurance that isn't even going to cover them?

Thoughts?
It should have been posted in my club. :P
But to seriously respond, I'd say that in this case no one is encouraged to pay since insurance would have no benefit to the buyer. It's like life insurance in this instance.
It also doesn't cover legitimate grievances. What if the other guy was being the idiot, didn't have this reform insurance, you can't pay your own insurance because of other priorities (kids, mortgage, etc.), and you end up in the hospital in the ensuing car crash?
I'd also argue that this kind of insurance encourages risky behavior, perhaps to a greater degree, because then the idiot can just say "oh, sorry! Here's my insurance!" to whatever damages he caused to someone else and get away with it.
While nice in concept, I'm not entirely sure about the practical applications since this type of insurance would hinge on the idea that it is obligatory for the entire nation (insurance is mandatory over here, but I wouldn't know about the States). :P

What happens if you are permanently injured by an idiot who isn't insured?
I'd assume your own insurance would kick in, since it wasn't your own fault. But then, I think your insurance company should be able to take everything away from the idiot who injured you, in order to pay for their expenses.
Basically, your insurance policy would give your insurer the right to pursue civil action on your behalf, in the even of damages against your person.
Why would people ever fork out money for insurance that isn't even going to cover them?
They probably wouldn't buy it as often, but then... maybe they'd be more careful. Particularly in where they build their houses, etc.
Still, the insurance would still protect you from losing everything to compensate someone for damages you caused. Some people might pay for that.
It should have been posted in my club. :P

Well that's not the problem really. There's a bug where Adobe acrobat will freeze (unrecoverable) the entire PC if you try to print a certain page of my company website using the 'Print to PDF' functionality. I'm in charge of trying to figure out why, and how to fix the issue from the website end.
Random thought of the day:
I've discovered that no matter what precautions I make, the 3-6 year olds in the sunday school class I teach will always spill a drink at some point. I've also learned that when a drink spills and is flowing over the side of a table, most kids will sit there in awe, rather than move out of the way so their clothes don't get stained red from kool-aid.

Yep yep, sounds like the Corps alright. Then, whenever an incident out in town happens, the command will be all like "we blame NCOs for not policing their Marines enough so they get punished too! You must mentor your Marines, even though one of them might've been broken goods before joining in the first place, bladda bladda blah."
Then, when you stay later in the work day to give them advice or show them how to do something, the Company Commander is calling the shop and wonder "why the hell his Marines aren't off work time yet, they earned their off time!"
Nobody really knows what they want. That's why I've found it best to remain gainfully employed, give a good perception to your peers, and get involved in the task. People tend to eff with you less that way. And I signed up for yet another 4 years. I don't understand myself sometimes.

OOOk Like as NCOs we have the power to foresee our Marine's activities during libo and prevent them right? Its amazing that no matter how much we give these guys libo briefs and tell them the risks and the consequences of their actions, they still dont get it and do stupid things anyway. Then our command tells us that NCOs are doing a bad job and its ultimately our fault.. Maybe it is, but then again we cant hold their hands throughout their career.

I used to skate back in my junior Marine years then I then realized that in order to move up in the grunts, you really do have to get involved and make yourself visible...but also give the impression to your peers that you aint sucking #@%ck either (you know what I mean).
Cant blame yourself on that one. You gotta do what you gotta do brother. Are you LAT moving and getting a bonus at least? I decided to move on and finish up school. Im about one semester shy of my bachelors. At least with eight years of service, I dont have to worry about IRR. Good luck brother and Semper Fi!

The way I see it, when I was a troop, I didn't act like a whiney jackass and get in trouble. So if the junior guys do, why should they get any quarter? They're grown men too.
Yeah, that's always been a challenge, trying to please everybody...eventually I learned that you can't. So now I do everything I'm expected to do, and if a higher-up questions my methods, then I explain it as to-the-point as I can be. I don't particuarly have to worry about being liked, so long as I'm alive and getting paid.
I'm staying in my original job, but getting a fat bonus for it. I'll do a lat move if I end up getting stationed in Camp Lejeune or someplace equally crappy.
Good to know you didn't squander your time in and you actually got yourself an edumacation. What's your BA in?

One thing I learned is that Marines are stubborn when it comes to new things. I don't know what it is, but some Marines really hate the RCO when it comes time to qual on the rifle range.
Jack_Bauer

+1 on that. My biggest challenge was to discipline younger Marines without having to use old methods thats now considered taboo (yes, hazing). Especially nowadays when Marine recruits are told that they will not be touched like the old days. So a lot of them come to the fleet thinking that they can act such punks and disrespect their seniors and get away with it. Its hard to discipline those types.
Oh man, glad you didn't lat move then. I hate camp lejeune! Im not fond of the east coast at all. I dont know how Lejeune got the Military Installation of the year award. We have more suicides and off base incidents than other bases out there. I really wanted to go to Camp Pendleton but I got marooned here.
Actually to be honest, I've had my AA before I even join the military. Then I took more classes both online and some at the education center here in Lejeune when I was able to. My degree will be in OSHA (Occupational Safety and Health Administration) and Im plan on minoring in Disaster Management.
One thing I learned is that Marines are stubborn when it comes to new things. I don't know what it is, but some Marines really hate the RCO when it comes time to qual on the rifle range.
My take on that: Its because Marines have such huge pride on their natural honed skills. Especially in bootcamp; we're all taught the science of shooting our M16, judging wind percentage values, basic ballistic knowledge, etc. I qualled last March and I got a pretty good score and it was so much easier because of the RCO. But most of my fellow Marines took off their RCO and went back to the ol iron sights. Once our BC got wind of this, he came to the range himself and put a stop to all that. Just like hazing, a lot of the older Marines who have been around had a hard time disciplining us without the use of physical altrecations.

I'm sensing sarcasm. But! I'm actually not as shallow as some people think I am. See I was in love before the Mac purchase, that's just like, the icing on the cake and I can't find any other imperfections... other than the fact she probably kills Tibetans on a regular basis.
My thought for today: Never combine hot soup, frozen yogurt, Korean girls and speaking Korean in less than one hour. Your tongue will hurt the next day.
Like I said, go for it. I wasn't being sarcastic actually.
My thought of the day: I drove a 1975 Volkswagen Super Bettle today. No power assisted anything, fully mechanical, no tachometer so you could only tell when to shift purely by the sound of the engine which was a little tricky, and the speedometer didn't work. I'm lucky I didn't get pulled over. I got to experience how old cars operated, which wasn't too bad.
I was also afraid that I would tip the car over if I turned a corner too fast.

No idea. Maybe it was laziness on the part of who wired the place up, they had to have two circuits so they did what they needed to do and ended up wiring that room separately so they could tick a box and say the home came under regulations.
Where I am now, an old bungalow, eccentrically(?) has the circuits interlaced - so if a mouse nibbled through a wire somewhere only half the lights would go out.

I don't think that it's really true, it's just that most people have at least one food they really really like, but it would be harmful to them if they had as much of it as they would like. Cheetos aren't the most unhealthy food ever, it's just that they would be if you ate them every day like you want to.
If you thought bleach tasted really really nice, then I'd agree. :P
My weakness in food is fish & chips, straight from the chippie, which is definitely super lethal fatal deadly if you eat it a lot.
I also really like chicken, so this week I've been eating some every day. I turn it into lean meat the cheap way (but I guess I shouldn't talk about assaulting small animals in the kitchen by ripping htem apart with my bare hands anymore), then boil and skim. Then use the skimmed stock in one meal, and use the chicken meat in another, and it works out really well. I feel really healthy today! :)

Everything else is mostly a slushbox. I'm looking for something that can be a good street racer and good for taking out on a track. This is seriously pissing me off.

I finally got my driver's license yesterday, and right in time too. I'd scheduled it way back in june, and if it had taken place in october, I'd have had to pay 500$+.
Reason being, driving lessons are now mandatory starting next month, and I'd never taken any as I learned to drive from my parents. Doesn't matter anymore since I passed superbly, but that was a close one!

Yes, it was said to someone. You could say that the someone did not really find it worth fancying much, though the remark was spot on.

I really don't like dealing with MSSQL and ASP.NET related stuff. I used to work with PHP and MySQL all the time, and if you search the internet for help, you find tons of helpful websites, articles, etc.
If you search for help with ASP.NET or MSSQL stuff, you find these retarded websites where you need to pay to see the answer, or sites that offer programs (.exe files) to help you do things with MSSQL.

I love walking street! I don't give a #*?! About restrictions and off limits as I saw snco and above trolling through those places and saw them hang out there. Though 6, 7, and 8 do have some awesome spots as well. Like that margarita bar at soi 7. Then there's the irish pubs. Ever played connect 4 with the bar girls? Seasame Street is the slums of the muppet world. Kermet and the good muppets left years ago. Now all that's left is guys like
Cookie Monster: Diabetic and now made to eat fruit
Grover: Lives in his mom's basement and dresses in a superhero costume *looks around* not that there's anything wrong with that. But can you say "Bates Motel"?
Oscar the grouch: Lives in a trashcan
Big Bird: Could have made it big, but his career sank when he started talking to an elephant that nobody else could see.
The Count: Just hangs around to pick off kids from the slums. Notice he lives in a castle.

I don't recall the margarita bar, but I remember that Irish Pub on Walking Street. Buncha officers were hanging out over there post-exercise, and some of us enlisted guys were invited to attend. Our gunny insisted we tag along out of good manners, but damn, I never felt so-out-of place being around a bunch of people I'm used to calling "sir" when we're working.
I never knew Tony's to be off limits...never went anyway, I don't trust a guy that seems to own the entirety of Pattaya.
Lucifer's was never off-limits, I think. My closest pals went there every night to scout for something while I went to Insomnia (WAY too many people upstairs, I get claustrophobia, but damn that place was cool). Downstairs was more open, used to beat up the bartenders at pool. :P

^Well the last time I was there was 2006 so things must have changed. I refuse to hang out where officers are unless its an official event. Isn't insomnia like a techno bar? '06 was the first time I was there. 19 years old, didn't know what the place was about, it was a roller coaster. :) Yeah, Insomnia is a shady techno place. You know those movies were DEA or whoever is breaking into a club to arrest some high-class druggy mafia types? That's what that club was like. I think you're right about it being close to the Eastern Euro types, saw it but never went in.

On Oct. 17, 1814, a ruptured tank at the Meux and Company Brewery unleashed more than 3,500 barrels of beer onto the streets of London, creating a wave of beer that knocked down walls, flooded basements and demolished houses. Eight people drowned. The ninth died of alcohol poisoning, after attempting to stop the flood by drinking the beer.
