My dog, Goldie, is dying. She has cancer, and even if they try to open her up and remove it there's only a10% chance they'll be able to get it, and because of how sick she is even less of a chance she'll recover from an operation. We don't want her to suffer so she's going to be put to sleep.

Goldie is 11 years old. It seems like she's been around forever.

Surprise, surprise, surprise! I remember watching the Metallica episode of VH1's Behind The Music, that's where I learned that Cliff Burton died in a bus crash while the band was touring in Europe. Jason Newsted replaced him, followed years later by Robert Trujillo. And no, I don't follow the band or own any of their records, I just have that info floating in my head. :P

Meanwhile, Saturday's snowfall wound up being much ado about nothing, barely got a coating, but we got another dose that night, about a couple of inches and that looks to have frozen over. Urgh!

I respect Cliff not just because he was brilliant at his instrument, he was brilliant period, he turned a band in 3 years what few people do in a life time. Sure it might not be the best you've ever heard, but that wasn't what Metallica was trying to do.

Newsted may have had more musical anticipation, but that doesn't mean Cliff didn't know what he was doing, he was disciplined to keep himself low key and drove the band on a concrete path that's still being followed today.

Of course the band has matured and have changed their approach on music, but that's exactly where Cliff was going with it, I'm sure the band would have had a much different sound if he were still alive, but they would have gone in the same direction, and that's why Jason Newsted left the band.

In honor of Star Wars Episode 1 3D release, Mr. Nutmeg and I kept seeing references to Star Wars this weekend.

First was in the South Park episode "Free Hat" where the boys were trying to stop Lucas and Spielberg from making re-releases of their movies.

Second was in Drawn Together when Wooldoor got sucked into something that resembled the garbage shoot that Han and Leia were in.

Exactly. The whole holiday is basically big business's way of saying "How much money can we get from men?". Whatever a woman spends on a man, a man is expected to top it by a factor of what, twenty? At minimum? Flowers alone are like $100 (everybody in the flower industry should be arrested for price fixing), and then there's dinner and another gift after that, which is expected to be diamonds.

I have yet to see a Valentine that better represents 'Our' (the bitter, the proud, the Anti-Hallmarks) view of Valen-- Singles Awareness Day.

Equation:
Valentine's Day = wishes + naivete + cutecreepy critters + selling your soul to the devil + death, destruction, despair

As if every woman is a greedy heartless ***** who just wants a man for his money, or the fact that they can cook.

There is such thing as natural love in the world, between two people who are willing to agree with each other and settle their differences just so they can be a happy couple for the rest of their lives, is not a difficult concept to understand.

Except you are right, American Culture has brainwashed people to believe that woman need everything to be happy, and you are just feeding the sheep every time you claim your life is a wreck becuase you're single.

They didn't read your blog according to the list of recent visitors. This is what is weird, these names have been popping up like crazy for the last week or so and they all visited recent blogs only. Got a wake-up call from my doctor yesterday. Late last month, I had my annual check-up, yesterday, my doctor called to give me the results of the blood work, turns out I haven't quite been taking good care of myself as I thought as I'm close to being pre-diabetic. Uh-oh! That's not good, not good at all since a good friend of mine died late last year from complications from diabetes. Definitely don't want to go down THAT road. So I gotta shape up regarding my diet, eat more veggies and exercise more so I can enjoy a long life and be around here to continue pestering everyone with my cornball sense of humor.

Grape Kool-Aid and brown sugar Pop Tarts are, respectively, "the nectar of the Gods" in his own words, and his oft-admitted favorite flavor of Pop Tarts.

Pop Tarts and Kool-Aid racist? Really? Honestly, all Kool-Aid makes me think of are summers in suburbia outside the pool, or drinkiing the stuff at my friends' birthday parties growing up. And Pop Tarts... well they make me think of late night snack raids at my 7-11.

Edit: after some googling, I get that Kool Aid has some rep as a "ghetto" drink, so I *sorta* get that, but... Pop tarts?

By the way, I totally agree with him about brown sugar pop tarts. Highly underrated, and second only to S'mores Pop Tarts.

If you want a quick version; after Alexander the Great died, one of his generals, Ptolemy I, took control of Egypt and formed the Ptolemaic Kingdom. The Kingdom ruled the area until the death of the Cleopatra everyone knows and loves in 30 BCE. After her death, the area was brought under Roman control. Too bad it's just a made up example to prove a point. :|

Anyway, the Ptolemeic Dynasty was one of the most cruel and decadent in history. Egypt was fabulously wealthy and the Ptolemies were in constant conflict and power struggles. Mothers fought civil wars against their sons, sisters fought civil wars among themselves, there were all kinds of assassinations. Ptolemy VIII, known as "Physcon", was this morbidly obese Baron Harkonnen guy.

Physcon married his sister Cleopatra and assassinated her son, Ptolemy. Then he married his sister/wife's daughter, also named Cleopatra, which caused a ****storm. Then he was forced to flee to Cyprus where he cut up his son into pieces and shipped them to Alexandria to horrify his first wife. The package was opened in public during a feast and she understandably freaked out and ran around shrieking.

Still, the show is pretty danged charming. I'll definitely watch more.

Kids today are spoiled. They complain about download speed of music being too slow because 5 songs take less than 5 minutes to download. I used to spend a weekend in front of my radio with a cassette tape waiting for certain songs to come on so I could make a mix tape. Hell sometimes it took over a week just to get the songs that I wanted.

I remember a time when recording random **** with a tape recorder was the cool thing to do; you know, just like in Home Alone 2. It was my quintessential tool of annoyance as a younger brother, and I enjoyed every minute of it, even if my older brother would always beat me up over it.
