So September 30 I'm heading to Philly for a concert. I was curious as to the cheapest and easiest way to get there. My first instinct is train, but then I considered bus. What would you guys think?

Thanks

I'd fill up and go by car, take the trip early and turn it into a vacation?

The Chinatown bus is cheapest. I think to Philly its like 12 bucks, Chinatown to Chinatown. 20 round trip.

hm, very interesting. Is said bus line safe/nice? Or is it what you get for a 12 dollar bus ride from downtown New York? hah

It used to be really bad, but not so much now. See people would carry live chickens and **** (figuratively and literally if they had the chickens) in those back in the day. Now they are more civilized though you will have to deal with the typical fobs and their odors/habits. Also many hipsters and foreign college students take it now so it isn't that weird anymore. So if you don't like hipsters that may be a bad thing.

Bus lines are some what safe. Safer than Subway's and EL's that's for sure. Shady ****s underground all the time.

I prefer the train, if but for no other reason than to avoid traffic. New Jersey Transit to Trenton, then SEPTA's R7 line to 30th Street in Philly for under $30.00 round trip.

Is it still 25.00 to take the NJ train to Penn Station?

When I used to work in NY, I also took this way all the time.

Buy a Sleeper van and travel down there. Might be a bit pricey but would be a great adventure

While I agree that buses may be safer, I never felt particularly unsafe on the subway (LIRR, PATH, NJT etc., well just unsafe about being in Jersey in general for the latter two).

As far as I know. I don't go up to New York as much as I'd like, and when I do, I often take Amtrak back to Philly. In any event, SEPTA/NJT to and from the Big Apple is still a steal.
