A long, long time ago the Sage of the Six Paths created the moon. But what we don't know is why. I doubt that he decided to make it jsut beacause he thought it looked lonely or something. So it stands to reason that he created the moon to seal something within, as Nagato had intended to do with Naruto. So, assuming that there's something trapped in the centre of the Moon, could Madara's plan be to free whatever it is that could not be killed by the greatest ninja to ever live? Could that demon be what he fought (http://media.onemanga.com/mangas/00000004/00000386/09.jpg)?
We know what Nagato intended to do with the Biju once he gained control of them - he was to make a jutsu so powerful that it could destroy entire lands within an instant. Is it possible that this same jutsu could be used to crack the moon in two? It's a curious thing, at any rate. It's obvious that the Sharingan isn't like the other dojutsu - it has multiple levels of power and can even be fully turned off, unlike the other two (even the Byakugan is still actually always on since it permanently alters the person's eyes). So is it possible that the Sharingan was developed in an entirely different way to the other dojutsu? Like a demon far more powerful than any Biju getting jiggy with a human woman, bestowing half of his power (two Sharingan eyes instead of his own four) to his children and descendants. A demon with whom Madara could enact a contract that would give him all the power he has ever needed? It would make sense that only by having four Sharingan eyes, which is basically what the Eternal Mangekyo Sharingan is, can one get acknowledged by this demon guy...
Wouldn't that make for a pretty badass end, anyway? Super Madara FTW.
