One of the few underrated machines of the gym? For the gym rats of AN, do you find it to be an effective workout? Or is it another machine that becomes useless after a few tries like the bike machine?

I've never used it, but from what I've heard from rowing enthusiasts is that it works more muscles than treadmill and eliptical machines (which makes sense) and that it can kick your *** into shape.

No, I've been noticing that I get way more worn out after a ten-minute workout then I do on any other machine. I can only do about 20 minutes, but I think I'm going to try and work up to 30 minutes non-stop for the rest of the summer.

That was in regards to their worth, not whether they're difficult or not.

Pardon the intrusion but I was actually thinking of getting one to stick in the basement but have one question...
I confused as to the difference with the units with rowing arms and others with the tethered pull-bar.
can someone provide some insight?

The pull-up bars aren't called "rowing machines" just because they have you doing rows at an incline. You can do rows with a barbell, but you don't call them "rowing bars".
Note that rows in the weightlifting context serve a very different purpose than rowing machines.
