Any to suggest? I feel as if before I take Kickboxing in the fall, I need to build at least a little more muscle. But, I'm still somewhat skeptical, since I want to lose the fat of course. I know that the shakes are meant to carry tons of protein and then are packed with calories, so it might be my folly in the end.

I like those meal replacement bars, I forget which kind I had but they were sponsored by one of the Strongman organizations and had 35 grams of protein in it. 450 calories for a 5 or so inch bar, but I used to cut 'em up and eat 'em throughout the day. It tasted kind of like an oreo but a friend of mine used to say it tasted like chocolate meat.

Whey protein isolate with as few ingredients as possible (i.e. no sucrose).
Whey helps with fat burning, too. It raises your metabolism because of its high biological value (well over 100), meaning it's the fastest-absorbing source of protein.
It's not a meal replacement shake so it's not packed with calories, but it also doesn't have very many nutrients like meal replacements, so it isn't a complete food item by itself.

So Reidar, would you suggest getting Whey Protein, rather than something like Muscle Milk?

Yes, but it depends when you want to take it. Muscle Milk is casein protein (like in milk), which absorbs very slowly and isn't good for after a workout.

I'd probably take it in the morning, since my workouts are usually in early-afternoon, around noon or so. I looked up some prices and brands. Is there a specific brand you suggest.

Any pure product will do. I use Optimum Nutrition 100%, but if I'm low on money I just buy a $12 generic brand from Whole Foods. Look for labels "hydrolyzed" and "isolate" (as opposed to concentrate). On the ingredients listing, whey protein should be first, with few additives following.

I went ahead and went to the local vitamin shop and bought a 2 pound drum of 100% Whey Protien Isolates, along with some L-Glutamine. I think I'm only going to take half of the serving dose in the morning, then another after I work out.

I like steak, shrimp, scallops, muscles, pork loin in my soup w/ tamarind (sinagong), tandoori chicken....
Even cold cut ham and pepperoni has a good amount of protein in it.
But Isopure and Lean1 would be my suggestion to you. These two that I mention serve different purposes. Lean1 is meal replacement (I think) with 20g per 8-10oz cup. So if you're having trouble fitting a good 4th meal in, this is good and tastes good too. Isopure is MORE protein. Not much needs to be said of it hear, it's pretty well known.
I h8 GNC whey, I tried it a long time ago. How much freaking sugar do they have to put in the stuff! I thought a container that says protein on it would be high in protein, not carbs. What a rip off. Isopure doesn't have so much sugar and at least Lean1 has complex carbs.

Lean1 is a rip-off and doesn't have nearly as many calories as something like Serious MASS (12 lbs. for $40) or Cytogainer. Isopure has way too many excess ingredients, which defeats the purpose of whey protein as being a high biologically valued, pure supplement.
