This weekend I went to Vegas for the first time.
inb4 this is gonna be good.
I got there and almost instantly loved it. So after checking into the hotel, I went into the casino for a bit. Lost about 200 bucks there. After that I went walking around with my buddies who I went with to all the different hotels we got dinner. Saturday we did some more stuff, gambled a little at Caesars. Then Saturday afternoon I hit a small winning streak and won some money. Spent the night doing all sorts of crap. At around 9:00 I decided to go play Texas Hold 'Em. A bout half an hour later I had won $1,000. Then I won some more. And more. Before I knew it I had won over $4,000.:w00t: After a couple more winning hands I lost a few, so I stopped. I then went and bought a couple beers and a shot of Everclear, partied a bit, and passed out on the couch.
Sunday I played some more at the slot machine after breakfast (after recovering from a hangover unlike no other), and won $500 more. Then I drove back with my buddies, wanting to turn around.
Altogether I won $4,780, while still keeping $600 out of the $1,000 I had brought to gamble. And most importantly.....I didn't wake up with a ring on my finger.:)
Any ideas on what to spend it on?

I chose Texas Hold 'Em because it's the card game I'm best at.
Thankfully there weren't any pros at that table.:uhh:

I find Vegas to be an interesting place to watch behavioral psychology in action. A casino is just a big Skinner Box with rats pulling intermittent reward levers to get food pellets. They don't even try to disguise the fact, either.
Beyond freak-watching, I don't really have much use for the whole town.
Congratulations on your winnings. As for what to spend your money on - I'd say if you ever plan on going back to "win some more", then you might want to spend part of your winnings on an Intro To Statistics textbook, and perhaps a Behavioral Psychology text as well. It'll make interesting reading when you're trying to figure out how your luck could have possibly gone south since your last visit.

Indeed, it's getting difficult to supply my students with the proper amount of emeters and extension courses. So any donation is welcome.

When you Play hold'em like he did you are not playing against the house you are playing against other people so the House Statistics don't come into play.
If you want to actually win money at a Casino and you can't count cards getting good at Hold'em and playing just that is actually your best bet since its based more on your ability to play the game and almost not at all on house statistics....unlike...pretty much every other game there.
Oh, and I'm with Prons, I would have went to the Bunny Ranch with 5 grand.

Yes I'd have gone for that blonde girl that's like 7 feet tall.
I remember the guy that went there and paid like 5 women to walk all over him. Was it fantastic? Yes. Was it me? Yes.

Invest it. There's a lot of prime pickings in the stock market right now. If you got that much money, then you might as well get it to grow.

Well...:uhh: if you want to take your vegas experience to the next level this would be it. I always considered wall st to be the legal version of Vegas.
Invest at your own risk.
My advice save some of your money for a rainy day. As tempting as it is to blow it all you never know it might get you out of a jam. But thats just my advice.

Not sure what to make of this, Walt. Are you aware that gambling in Las Vegas is entirely legal? It's just you say this like you think there's something not legal about Vegas.

Well, you being you, I thought you'd want to spend it on either vehicle upgrades or fuel.

I'm not that good on upgrading cars. And my car isn't exactly upgrade material, unless it would become something like Fast and the Furious. And I absolutely hate Rice.
I suppose putting it towards a better car is a good idea.

The responsible side of me would give Kenpachi the same advice. That or a nice fat high interest CD or savings account.
I would probably look into some new wheels if I were yourself.

Sooner or later this was bound to be thrown in there.

I believe that his use of the term 'legal' may be at issue here. I'm sure he meant something like 'formal' or I'll go as far as to say 'proper.' But our friend Waltso only knows what he means.

Yes. Me.:)
Seriously, put at least half of that into some kind of long term investment. I'd say put it in a savings account.

^ I disagree on the long-term account. The best interest % you'll get in this economic climate isn't going to be very high, and these percentages are low to begin with.
Supposing 3% compounded yearly on the entire 4.5k for 5 years, he's not getting more than 1.7k out of it. Bad deal if you think about it, especially considering the inflation rate.
Investing in a solid though undervalued company will yield more as the stock is likely to more than double over the next year as the economy picks up. Plus, if the company gives out dividends, then that's more earnings to invest.
So forget the useless savings account unless it's for retirement, and go where the money resides. Or you can blow it. Your choice.

My bank account is already huge. I don't pay rent and I don't spend money like crazy.
I'm gonna have a ball this Saturday though, it's the 4th of July and I think I'm buying the keg.

Sounds like you had a good time. Watch out for slots though, they reward as fast as they take away. My old major was sitting next to me when he lost about $300 at a casino in the Philippines. I turned out about $100 up, with considerable luck.

Ok. That settles it. Instead of my earlier suggestion of prostitutes and cocaine. I suggest you can spend it on a worthy cause ie. Me. My current shopping ***** is being a tightwad and US dollars are worth so much more. :naughty:

Yo, Kenpachi! Congrats on your success in Sin City! Wow! I'm so envious! Don't think I've ever won more than a grand at nearby Atlantic City. I'll have to try Vegas myself one day!
As for what to buy, well, how about a HDTV? But don't forget the taxman, because he won't forget you, if you know what I mean!
