For the people who hate filler regardless of quality, Episode 114 is like 50% filler. Were you upset that they devoted time to showing filler that explained Orochimaru's background and his motivations for doing everything that he's done?

Anybody who's read anything I post here knows where I stand about anything devoting more time to Orochimaru, but I'm curious as to what you guys thought about it.

I liked it. It fleshed out Orochimaru more and made the viewer sympathize with him just a bit more than we may have before. We could also see more clearly the thought process leading up to his current incarnation, while in the manga, there was hardly enough time for many to reflect upon Orochimaru's motivation and the reasoning behind it.

The only filler in there that I REALLY didn't like was the AL being clearly shown FOR THE FIRST TIME in a non-existent filler flashback. WTF anime?!? WTF?!?

I don't remember the exact point that the AL's face was revealed, but it was definitely more climactic than that was.

I watched a live stream, so I wouldn't really know where to point you except to Google.

About AL... well, if you don't know yet, it's better if I don't tell.

AL = Akatsuki Leader?

I found and watched 114 and WTF at them showing Pain. IT IS TOO SOON TO SHOW HIM!!

I wonder why they would show him in the series soon before his full appearance like the manga?

I think because the studio figured since everyone and their mama knows what Pain looks like, what's the point of delaying his appearance, yanno?

THe only good thing is that at least Pain has normal skin color instead of that white, Sai skin color.

It was when (SPOILERS!!!!!)......

Konan and Pain walk away from the ledge where Pain sits and walked over to Tobi who was revealed to be Madara.

Filler that creates whole new story arcs is what I don't like, usually. Filler that fleshes out the existing story arc with supplemental materiel is pretty decent. No objection to that whenever it happens. As long as it doesn't end up contradicting the canon story further down the road, which can lead to complications. Unless the anime just does like One Piece sometimes has and pretends the filler with contradictions never happened. XD

I don't even like filler that fleshes out a character because it's still material that didn't originate from the manga. If Kishimoto didn't go into detail himself, it didn't happen. However, this filler really didn't do any harm, but did they have to put Pein in there?

Ehh, sometimes the extra details are pretty obvious, there just isn't room for them in the narrative format of a manga. I agree with you to some extent, but this is the better of the two kinds of filler.

I know not how it works but it wouldn't even surprise me if Kishi himself wrote it. It was tasteful, well done, on the level, and gave more impact to the event, which all happened so quickly in the manga that it was hard to believe.

Still, wish the anime was more concise it in's canon oriented presentation. There's so many arcs mixed in it kills any desire I have to ever purchase the series for a revisit.

I don't like the coloring choice for Pein, even if it matches the few colored pages we get from the manga. Always envision him as a blond myself.
