Not that it's a surprise or anything, but what do you guys think?

I think it's horribly lame. They should have had the balls to keep Steve dead.

Hey thats great news! When i heard how he got killed i thought it was messed up. Thats no way for a super hero to go out imho.

^ Also an indication that Marvel can't do anything new. Do you have any idea how many characters they've "killed" off just because they can't think of anything new?

ahhhh and he's been dead and buried for such a looooong and significant length of time. It's been What, five, six month's Marvel time since Civil War ended? meh, Guess it's time for everyone and their mother in the Marvel U to get back on their knee's and suck the saintly sack of Roger's again.

tough luck Bucky...

DC's just as bad, having brought back more "killed" characters than Marvel: Superman, Green Arrow, Green Lantern, Jason Todd (Robin II), The Flash (Barry Allen), Superboy (Connor Kent), Impulse, the list goes on. To be honest, I'm surprised marvel waited this long to bring Steve Rogers back from the dead. Meanwhile, my over/under on how long Bruce Wayne enjoys his temporary dirt nap is 18 months, and that's a generous estimate. Death to DC and Marvel is nothing more than a cheap plot device to ramp up sales on their books.

Oh I know, it's bad on both sides. But at least DC kept Barry dead for longer than a couple months. They didn't even kill Bruce, he's just trapped in the past.

You know I love Steve Rogers as Cap. I grew up reading them and I think that Captain America is some of the best comics out there.

However, they killed him. I didn't like it at the time, but the way they are going with it seems to be working. I don't think I am going to like Steve coming back.

Who knows...

Get used to it. That was the plan from the moment Rogers was killed two years ago. It was only a question of when and how. Nobody stays dead in the world of superhero comics.

They kept Ted Kord and The Martian Manhunter dead. Sure they're coming back as Black Lanterns but we'll pretend like they kept them dead.

Ted Kord is coming back?!? What is the deal with that?

Look at the preview for GL #43 on IGN, and it shows a panel with Black Hand talking about everybody that died and who's all coming back as Black Lanterns

I think the only people that stay dead in Marvel and DC are Jor-El and Lara, Thomas and Martha Wayne, and Ben Parker. Everyone else they consider fair game.

This kind of stuff is the main reason why I have very little interest in comics.

Yeah, on that short list are J'onn J'onzz, Superman (Earth-2) and Aquaman. I guess you can say that death becomes them.

Good thing I don't read marvel anymore...
I had a long passion with comics, nowadays I only buy Hellboy stuff and the occasional hard-cover (kirkman's stuff mainly)...

That's a cheap way to make an ending.

Yeah, but it sold a ton of books. I think that issue even with into a second printing as the legions of mindless fanboys out there ate it up.

Also co-signed with the rider that it doesn't apply to comics outside the Marvel/DC mainstream. Both companies have done some decent miniseries. I especially like a lot of the Vertigo books, but mostly its indies all the way for me.

Manga can be just as formulaic, just because Marvel has done something horrid doesn't mean all American comics suck

Most superhero comics have been going on for about three decades... that's what I don't like about 'em so much. The wellspring of ideas has long since run dry. I never once said that all American comics suck, but specifically I find that with long-running superhero series I'd far rather just read the stories from back when than the current ongoing ones.

JoeStrummer
June 22nd, 2009, 02:28 AM
I don't know, to me that doesn't make much sense. What have you read recently that would lead you to believe that there aren't any ideas? I still agree that this Steve Rogers thing is stupid but still.

I don't have any problems with American comics at all (The two draws I have filled to the brim with hundreds of Marvel/DC/Dark Horse/Omega/etc. comics says otherwise) it's just that I've gotten to a point that I feel more comfortable about when I start a story, it will at least finish in my life time.

Not saying Manga or Manwha is any better, but more times than not, they have what I like. A conclusive ending.

I kind of liked the idea of Bucky inheriting the mantle of Captain America. What will happen with him now?

JoeStrummer

I haven't read Cap 600 yet, Or Reborn 1, so I have no idea, but I thought Bucky taking it turned out okay. I hear that Cap girl from the Onslaught universe is back

Well, the answer to that can be found in the later issues of Cable and Deadpool.

My guess is sales slumped with Bucky playing Cap, either that or the return of Steve Rogers was planned from jump street.

It was always planned, it's Marvel.
