Has anyone read the Heritage Shanarra books? What are your thoughts. I like them better than the original Sword of Shanarra book.

I read the original Shannara trilogy (Sword, Elfsong and Wishstones), which started out pretty well but got old fast. I found myself saying, "Ah, here's another genre stereotype we get to meet!" a lot. I think I made it about halfway through the Heritage series (Scions and halfway through Druid) before bailing on the series entirely.
I just couldn't take them anymore. The mechanical aspects of the writing were good, but the story, characters and situations read like every D&D campaign I'd ever heard.

I too read the original Shannara trilogy, and... well, I've definitely read worse fantasy novels. They suffer from the same problem as the works of David Eddings, in that they... well, Desslock said it just fine. They read like a D&D campaign come to life, and not a particularly imaginative one.
Reasonable, but limited.

I read the first 3 Shinara novels, and then the Scions, but after that, not so much. I got out Running with the Demon and Knight of the Word from the library, but I have yet to get Angel Fire East. Library does not have it.
Brooks tends to be wordy. He's alright if you skim, or get abridged versions of his books.
