View Full Version : Fastest Way to get a Six Pack?

I used to have a six pack 2 years ago but I recently got out of shape lol. I just want a six pack by mid July or sometime in August! 2 years ago it took me about 5-6 month's to get one, but I did it with a horrible diet (fast food, snacks, sweets but I only ate once a day and very little portions) But this time I want to do it the right way, with the right diet. I'll start by doing about 200 crunch's and then try to increase it to 400-500 a night.

I'm 5'4 and about 120 lbs and pretty much a flat stomach.

My main problem is the diet, I really hate veggies and it's very hard for me to eat them. I can eat fruits though, like banana's and oranges. I was thinking of just eating Special K cerial with low fat milk for 2-3 months. Would that be a good idea? Can you give me any suggestions on what to eat (at least something with taste)

Crunches will not give you a six-pack, and more =/= better. If you can do over 40 crunches, then you're doing them wrong and not purporting a full contraction of the abdominals. Follow this (http://www.trainforstrength.com/workout1.shtml) if you want a no-equipment routine.

Read my article (http://ironechelon.webs.com/FatLoss.htm) for a proper dieting method. The biggest problem with your suggestion is a lack of protein.

At your weight, you shouldn't be aspiring to burn fat. You'll net more results building up your musculature so you actually have a toned frame to cut down to. Your abs being underdeveloped is more the problem here.

I do 5-7 sets of 25 crunch's or sit ups. In between sets I switch to doing about 30 push ups or more. What can I eat on a daily basis?

Sit-ups are biomechanically flawed and bad for your back. Doing random calisthenics mish-mashed together with no rhyme or reason is pointless.

I already gave you a sample meal plan in that link.

Are you trying to tell me doing 5-7 sets of 25 crunches every day isn't going to bore you?

There's a book called "The Abs Diet." Its pretty good. I need to use it seriously when the summer comes around, although I don't by any means want a six-pack. I'll use it to trim down the fat, but who knows.

Edit: Buuuuut, unless you have little to no body fat, its going to take a long while to get a six pack. You can't really get one 'fast' as much as I would love to be able to. Work on it over the summer, and you could have one by August.

Don't do that! You'd probably suffer! No substantial amount of protein, probably not enough vitamins, completely a bad idea! Really you need fruits and vegetables no matter how much you hate them.

Oh God yes. Never mind the fact that you would have to have nerves and discipline of steal to keep on that diet for any longer than two-weeks. I'd get bored after a few days.

Never, ever try and live off something like special K. Doing so states that you don't know a single thing about your body, the nutrients it needs, or the nutrients in food, and if you want 6 pack abs or to bodybuild or to do a sport you're gonna need to know more about nutrients.

Pretty much, its a sugarcoated way to starve yourself. Its directed at women who 1) don't need to lose weight or 2) are lazy.

you can always use a paint brush :)

And don't just do crunches, do other stuff that targets your core strength in general(which is more than abs, but also abs.)

there's some good ideas here:

http://www.runnersworld.com/article/0,7120,s6-238-263--9261-1-1X4X8X12X14X15-7,00.html

and you'll like this one too:

look through all the pages of the article of course...

there's also some really good stuff you can do with medicine balls and also some good variations of crunches you should look in to.

The fastest way to get a six pack is to go down the shops.

The sample diet in that runnersworld.com link is terrible, and a lot of their exercise suggestions hit the psoas and hip flexors more than the abs.

I'll check out that book ^_^
I was SUPPOSED to start working out and eating healthier in April, but I sort of slacked off a bit for the past month or two. Since Summer is basically a couple of weeks away, it's too late to get a really really good 6 pack lol. Well my stomach has very little body fat, so maybe with the right diet, I could get one by the end of summer.

Don't do that! You'd probably suffer! No substantial amount of protein, probably not enough vitamins, completely a bad idea! Really you need fruits and vegetables no matter how much you hate them.

How about eating an apple/orange/banana after every meal? Would it be a good idea if I took those vitamins they sell at GNC or grocery store? I'll try to force myself to eat more healthy lol.

If I knew how to cook, I would cook myself something good and healthy. Too bad I don't though =[

You should always add fruit or vegetables to meals. Don't listen to people who say that the sugar in fruit is bad, either. I hate it when people do that when they obviously don't understand the extent of insulinotropic processes.

A multivitamin is a good supplement to take. Stay away from GNC for anything, though. Their employees don't know anything and their prices are asinine.

I'm no expert but: I got my six pack by doing yoga (1 hour twice a day) and the occasional lay (several hours but not daily) for about 4 months straight. I was able to eat pretty much anything I wanted, though I am able to do that anyway and not gain weight so make of that what you will. Also I don't eat out much at fast food places, and I usually have home cooked meals, nothing microwaved or canned. If I do eat out I eat at places that use fresh ingredients. Also when I buy groceries, I don't buy anything that has a long ingredients list. Farmer's markets are your friend for this sort of thing.

Well to be honest the MOST I ever weighed was 125 lbs (I'm 5'4) and I ate a lot of junk food and fast food daily. For some reason I always go back to 120 lbs in a few weeks. I guess I just have really good metabolism. I wish I just worked out before spring =[

It's always a good idea to eat fruit as often as you can. :)

I shouldn't answer questions about health though. Just because I know you need fruit and vegetables doesn't make me the right one to say anything beyond that.

If I knew how to cook, I would cook myself something good and healthy. Too bad I don't though =[
Can't you ask friends or family to teach you? You don't need to know a whole lot of skills just to prepare healthy food.

You might even find you enjoy some vegetables. A lot of people are put off by the vegetables they were served in their school cafeteria (for example) when really those are just badly cooked and badly chosen, and you can have much more delicious veggies.

What can I eat on a daily basis?

Try food for "not dying" purposes.

A lot of things work, otherwise. Lead, arsenic, mercury, you name it.

I don't drink alcohol, so I'd opt for a six-pack of grape soda. :P

Eat lots of fruit (it has GOOD sugar), protein like peanut butter, fish, that sort of thing, and take out the junk foods. You need to lose fat before you can even think about getting a six-pack.

That link sucks. Doing the resistance exercises shown (most of which are sub-par and use more psoas and hip-flexors than abs) will not net you a six-pack, so the title is a blatant falsity. Visible abs come from cardio and diet. Ab workouts don't catabolize fat.
