My biggest pet peeve with hentai is how the protaganist in most Hentai is always the exact same bland everyman "Archie Andrews" type.
I guess it's so that more people can emphasize with the character and put themselves in his place, but I'd emphasize more with a guy that had an original personality and wasn't a japanese Ken Doll

money is tight, so companies only seem to be releasing what is most popular

Nerdy guy f***ing every girl one by one. It's stupid and repetitive, the same guy in all the scenes.

It's done so that the target audience can identify with the protagonist.

Judging by the popularity of the "what turns you off" thread I see this thread having the potential to be a multi-pager

To add to Doc's fact, many of us US, Canadian and western hentai fans need to recognize that most Hentai is still made for Japanese audiences first, and the majority of fans there tend to be like the stereotype protagonists. It's the same thing as the so-called "Tenchi Complex" associated with most ( non-hentai) eechi and harem animes.

I understand that it is designed to appeal to Japanese audiences, part of my problem with Japanese culture is how creatively stagnant and set in tradition it can be. While western audiences get fed up with cliches it seems that the Japanese have a checklist of what they expect pop culture to provide.
While we would go "generic protaganist check, generic band of heroes check.." sarcastically a Japanese person would do it seriously.

Another stereotype I've noticed is that most of the girls, not all of them, are either virgins or very niave to sex.

Again, think of who is the audience for what is produced in Japan. That's what they want to see, so that's what the production companies give them. It's basically a power thing.

As do I. I don't like it when hentais have repetitive rape scenes, with a male protagonist who doesn't seem to have one ounce of good in him.

I agree. I think that hentai with a dominant girl is better.

I personally prefer a balance of power—where no-one is truly dominant, but power is shared (and possibly exchanged). It's okay with me if a character dictates to another the second's actions, as long as the second character is truly consenting and is unharmed, but I feel better if the first character loses control at some point; for example, during orgasm, or better, when the second character takes control for a time. ("Oh, so you're really sensitive here? <EG>"

yeah, a balance is good...but its a real treat for me when the girl is in extreme dominance and basically forcing the guy...like in the Discipline H-Game

Another stereotype I'm getting tired of is the fake-sounding moans from the high-pitched female characters. It's starting to annoy me, and they sound really fake. The way they sound, nothing could ever be that pleasurable, realistically.

I totally agree with that one. That's why I watch a lot of my hentai with little to no volume (although there are other reasons for that too, lol). I hate it when the male barely touches them and they're writhing like snakes hyped up on caffeine and squealing their heads off.

Girls with self-esteem issues, and lines like "I'm so embarrassed!" or "Don't look at me down there!" being followed by "Kurumi, you're beautiful." from the guy. This is usually followed by her saying the guy's name, and then the guy sees how wet she is, and suddenly, she's more than willing.

Discipline has always been one of my favorites. They need more rapist girls in hentai. I'm serious.

Just one I'd like a would-be rapist to find that the vulva/vagina of the woman he is assaulting is bone dry—that she is not aroused by his "attentions".

You need to watch Jane Fonda's Klute for a good example of that in Western films. Of course, she's playing a call girl in the movie so that's some of it.

This is minor, but...girls/women keep being forced to prostitute themselves because of overwhelming medical debt—something that apparently does not actually happen in modern Japan (http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/pages/frontline/sickaroundtheworld/interviews/ikegami.html):
How many people in Japan go bankrupt because of medical bills?
None, or at least there should be none, because first of all, they should be covered, and if they're not covered, then they can get covered by paying back one year's premiums. And if they can't pay back the one year's premium, then they will be on public assistance.
If somebody in Japan loses [her] job, does she lose her health insurance, too?
She loses the employment-based insurance, but then there's the community-based insurance, which is mandated for her to enroll and for the local government to enroll that person.
(More here (http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=89626309).)
Bankruptcy due to overborrowing (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sarakin) is understandable, but not medical payments. (Alice Nonoyama of Lingeries is an exception—she was paying for treatment of her grandmother, who was in the United States.)

Wow, it's astounding to see that so many here are smart, considerate, good people who oppose and dislike the stereotype of male audiences portrayed solely by the products themselves. I, for one, can stomach all these ridiculous unrealistic, unattractive and non-arousing stereotypes. It's the generic nature that almost all recent hentai flicks accustom themselves to that kills most of it for me. The simple lack of creativity and chance-taking makes intelligent people like ourselves search for anything that stands out from the pack, going into fetishes and the like. And actually, regular, non-animated pornography is about ten times more generic and stereotyped than hentai.. that's why now normal porn, no matter what variety has now almost no appeal at all to me.
Where are the people with the ideas and why are they idle?
Actually, to be perfectly honest.. I believe that the reason that everything in recent time and the perpetual decline since the millennium, is due to greed. Everyone ONLY cares about making money, and almost NO ONE cares about making something GOOD, rather just what SELLS. This actually does prove that most audiences are idiots, not just in Japan at all. What is perplexing, however, is that if the reason behind the greediness of the creators is over-saturation of the market.. shouldn't new ideas become sacred and nurtured? I'm sure there's some logical paradox behind the factual, statistical and financial answer.

OTOH, I could use more of this type of line:
<Shoutarou starts licking the (other men's) semen off of Nana's face>
Nana: Wh…what are you doing!?
Shoutarou: Uh…I couldn't help it. Is there a problem?
Nana: Th…that's filthy! I'm covered in all of their cum…!
Shoutarou: Don't worry, Nana-san…there's no way your face could be filthy.
(Emphasis added. From Kisaragi Gunma's manga Mai Favorite (舞FAVORITE).) It's not the semen—it's Shoutarou's attitude. :P

Something that urk's me is the girls constantly screaming. I'm not talking about moan screams... Like the whole "OH my gawd stop, not there. Oh no not there. Stop!" Like... I'd love to see a H where the girl shuts up and enjoys it for once. <_<

For a start, here are the instances of enthusiastic virgins from my Virgins list (see my .sig) as it stands:
• Maple Colors#
• Story of Little Monica, The episodes 1# and 2#
• Wind of Ebenbourg episodes 1*# and 2*
# = Particular enthusiasm on the part of the virgin
