Ok so I mentioned this in another thread, What English speaking artists have done or have had their music used for openings or endings in anime?
To my recollection I know of
Radiohead - "Paranoid Android" for Ergo Proxy's ending credits
The Delgados - "The Light Before We Land" for Gunslinger Girl's opening
Oasis - I dunnno the title for Eden Of The East's opening
Anybody know anything else?

Duran Duran's Girls on Film was used for the opening of Speed Grapher in Japan; when it was licensed here, the Japanese didn't have the rights to grant to the US licensor and Duran Duran is still expensive.
Likewise, the opening and ending themes of Mobile Suit Zeta Gundam were written by Neil Sedaka, although new Japanese lyrics were written over Sedaka's melodies, we didn't get them because Sedaka is also expensive.
Electric Light Orchestra's Prologue and Twilight were used as the opening to the DAICON IV animations, while the LaserDisc edition featured "extras" with the same group's song Hold On Tight.
1986's Project A-ko's vocal pieces were all scored by Richie Zito and Joey Carbone and featured American pop singers, none of whom I think are actually 'famous' for anything aside from that film (and the small subset of fans who actually care).

Monster used For the Love of Life... by David Sylvian for the 1st ED.
Franz Ferdinand's Do You Want To was used for the Paradise Kiss OP.
That's all I recall at the moment for anime.
I can tell you a lot for dramas though. :P

What about the most famous English song to be used as a theme...Evangelions end theme, "Fly Me To The Moon."
"Fly me to the Moon, and take me across the stars/ let me see what spring is like on Jupiter and Mars..."
Of course, that version was sung by various Japanese singers and seiryu, but it's best known to be Frank Sinatra's (I think).

The original title was In Other Words, . . . It was one of Frank Sinatra's best known songs, but it wasn't written for him or by him. It was written by Bart Howard in 1954 for Kaye Ballard, a TV star at the time.

Actually, it had more to do with the fact Funi refused to pay anyone anything for use of the song. A couple of sites reported when it was licensed that some of Funi's management found the song offensive. It's one of several rumors that have circulated around the non-use of the song in the R1 version.

Mr. Big's Shine was used as the Hellsing ED, if memory serves.
And the first Gundam 0083 ED, Magic, was sung by a no-hit wonder named Jacob Wheeler (I keep thinking this song popped up in an old Cannon film, but damn if I know which one).

Ghost in the Shell used Scott Matthews and Steve Conte. Both are English (Australia and America, respectively), and both are great artist.
