God, I suck.

Have you ever been caught in a bind under weight? What about just having one of those really bad, lethargic days? Share your misery so I can feed off of it like a leech.

Is this you?

Yes, from today.

everything becomes lethargic eventually, no matter how much you enjoy something when you're doing well on it, eventually it wont become so enjoyable becuase it gets old.

Riedar you're an animal, I'd have expected you to come out of this roaring like a beast and coming back for more.

eh.. how is this a fail? you lifted 345lbs... twice...

tenshi_a
May 5th, 2009, 06:48 AM
You might call that fail, but I call it "OMG that's 345 lbs?!!".

Just for a bit of perspective.

Yeah, that's like... more than a Soluzar you just lifted. XD

It's much more than a Soluzar, last time I looked. Or did you.... eat 100lbs of cheese sandwiches this weekend and are trying to break it to me gently? -_-;

Horrible gym music finally got to you.

Lifting 345 lbs twice then having it fall behind you = win
Lifting 345 lbs zero times then having it land on your neck = fail

You didn't fail.

I really like the way you tied the board to your chest. Whenever I see anyone board benching on youtube they just have the board laying on their chest. Hey off topic, but thanks for posting that Deadlift video, I used some tips from the Disel Crew Deadlift video in the gym Monday, it made a big difference.

I made a pretty hilarious mistake once, when I was doing a clean and press (they're not part of my routine but i do them once in a while for fun) and I accidently pressed the bar upwards right into my chin. I just hope no one noticed, I bet it looked pretty retarded. :P

Don't think of the masses think of the mind.

I know exactly how Reidar feels, just 2 reps isn't much, everyone's all OMG how's that fail you lifted more then twice my weight!!! When really, I think it's more like saying you've worked for 40 years and you want to retire...

But Reidar, I would have seriously thought you of all people in this world would have obliterated boredom and just muscled through it.

But I supose even Reidar feels like he's done this before too many times.

I don't get it, are you upset that you couldn't lift that much more, or are you just looking for validation over the fact you lifted 345 pounds? You know most people couldn't lift that, even after working out forever. You should be happy that you got that much down and can manage it. Makes you more of a 'man' than the rest of the gym rats.

No validation, I'm just providing a coinciding video to my topic question. Training, of course, is relative. Someone who bench pressed a personal record of 135 pounds for their first time would have a more successful session than me just barely failing more than twice that.

Plus, most of the techniques I've benefited from are unorthodox, so I never miss a chance in exposing other people to them and away from the mainstream fitness industry.

That is hilarious.

I used to "board press" with two phone books and a 25 lb. weight plate on me because I didn't have boards. In the middle of it, the plate fell forward and bashed me in the face. Not only did I fail, but blood was everywhere. It ruled.

so after watching your video and reading the fine print, I'm thinking of doing a bit of weight training.

What do you suggest I should start out with first Reidar, I'm a guy who's best instructed hands on in the working environment more than text book work, but unfortunately there is a screen blocking my view of you're personal hand to hand training.

Hmmm looks like a job for a new thread.

You suck more than Cthulu's portable black hole. I'm ashamed to have witnessed this video.

Go weep girly tears, and do me ten lifts with a gaggle of cheering, decadent fat women as your audience. Burn that shame into your bones, and learn from this failure.

http://stronglifts.com/7-dynamic-stretches-to-improve-your-hip-mobility/ You may also want to look into these exercises to imrpove your hip mobility. I've been doing these lately to work on my squatting form. I don't know if they're the best or not, but I've gotten better at squatting since I started doing them.

I've always had some kind of athletic ability, so I'm pretty flexible when I need to be, but the squats should focus my flexibility a little more, I know when the stress is uncomfortably painful.

My weight training should come out nice and smooth.

That site is great. Biggest omission there, though, are box squats (http://westside-barbell.com/westside-articles/PDF.Files/04PDF/Box%20Squatting.pdf).

Just tried to hold the position for a squat without the bar, um it says the bar should be on my back instead of my shoulders? or a little bit below the neck?

I think my hands can stretch that far back.

Reidar
May 7th, 2009, 11:12 AM
It should be on your trapezius muscle, below the bone on top of your shoulder-blades.

http://stronglifts.com/images/squat/squat-bar-placement.jpg

This is a "low-bar" placement. There is also a high-bar placement but it puts more torque onto your back.

Old Ape Face
May 7th, 2009, 12:42 PM
That's exactly the position I use when performing the squat, I also keep my chest up strait as if I were trying to sing using my abdomen for air flow. I point my *** out as well and stand with my feet more than shoulder length apart, (I have long legs so it makes it difficult to keep my feet flat on the floor when I'm squatting in the position the book instructs without the weight, but I accommodate with the best stance I can hold without altering the concept of the form.)

Reidar
May 7th, 2009, 01:09 PM
Sounds pretty good except for sticking your posterior out. Don't do that, or there will be a "good morning" tendency, where your back is bending upwards as you squat (this (http://www.stadion.com/gif/goodmorn.jpg) is a good morning). You should be sitting back, though.

Old Ape Face
May 7th, 2009, 02:12 PM
nope I don't stand like that, but I use the arch of my back to help support my ***. and utilizing my hips they are the first things I concentrate on.

But I have a question, where should I feel the tension as I'm coming up? in the Quadriceps near the knee caps? or the Hamstring near the pelvis? or both?

Reidar
May 9th, 2009, 12:48 PM
The entirety of your legs, really. Your quads are actually doing less work than you might think, though.

"Many don't know this, but the hamstrings are hip extensors. Some great squatters have large quads and some do not, but they all have large hamstrings where they tie into the glutes. " -Louie Simmons

Old Ape Face
May 9th, 2009, 01:48 PM
I must have done the quad wrong then becuase I felt tremendous pull in my knees on one rep. and my Quads felt like jelly more then any part of my legs.
