Go!
I'm sure that, bar anything horrible happening to oda, atleast another 200 chapters/4 years to go.

I' m sure it' ll be more than four years. With all the coming ennemies, and all the plots going on and adding on, it' s gonna be very long! When I look at all the years it' s taken for one piece to get to this point in the story... We' r enot even halfway through the whole thing.

^ I agree. Realisticly I'm thinking 6-8 years minimun. Althought this arc won't be THAT long, because we're not finding out what happens to the other strawhats. It's in the anime. Yes, there is gonna be something in the anime not in the manga which it canon. It sucks.

I'm pretty sure that this series will go on as long as oda is alive and he can come up with abilities for characters to have.
God I'd love to see a list of everyone's abilities (non-filler only).

I think within 14-15 years, it would run out of steam

Well, it took us this long to get halfway through the Grand Line? So I'd imagine it will take about the same number of chapters now to finish up the series. So, after the Impel Down arc.... double the number of current chapters and that's my guess for when it will end.

I, unfortunately believe One Piece is coming to an end, slowly but safely... I mean, I have the impression not many islands and tasks have remained for them , but we'll see...
ON the other hand, if like, what, in 385 episodes they travelled trough half of the Grand Line, which could mean the same number goes for the rest. XD Not to mention they entered great line only in sixty-some episode..
In any case, i hope it goes on and on. XD

Sure but a significant amount of that was preparation that won't need to be repeated any time soon. I'd say there's about half as much left to come as we've already had.

seriously? I think 4 years is even way too much. the series seems like it's coming to an end soon. a lot has happened, and I feel like it's getting to the point now. I feel like we have all the characters and key plot that had to happen thus far.
I also feel like that's why Jump is frantically adding new series to the line up because they know once it's over in what I believe to be 2 years tops, they need something else to be big.

I heard elsewhere from another user a rumor that Oda wants to finish One Piece by the end of the year? Is this true?

He said it is halfway through which he said all the way back in Skypiea. I don't think you have to worry much about it coming to an end this year. Maybe in 5 years.

It doesn't matter what happens to Oda, he's got the ending written down and stashed away somewhere in case he be unable to continue the series.

Ah okay, I just got into the series so I still have to catch up anyways.

I don't mind the series going on as long as it keeps staying interesting.

I kind of want to know how it ends...
I'm just now really getting into it, and I see it as epic. But something can only be epic for so long. After awhile, a good majority of fans will be all 'how does this end?'
And yes, I know its all about the journey, I am not denying that fact. But if he's a true genious (which at this point, we have to assume he is) he'll end it in a way that is not only satisfying, but wraps everything up too.
My prediction:
Shanks dies while telling Luffy to continue his legacy. So he goes on to become the pirate king, gets older, gives the hat to another kid, and the adventure never really ends. It 'ends' with a "to be continued" in a sarcastic kind of way. The strawhats live on, never get caught, the end.

Probably around 10 years from now.
I laugh at those of you saying One Piece doesn't have an end in sight. One Piece isn't a never ending Shounen, it's just a very long story. In series like Dragon Ball and Bleach that the arcs are just expanding the series, but in One Piece the arcs are all just part of a much larger story.

I find it funny then how you laugh at people when you yourself say ten years. I don't know how many people know what is going to happen ten years from now, to me thats not "in sight". I'm only 21, I'll be 31 in ten years, that isn't something "in sight".
Honestly I love One Piece, but I really don't want to turn 31 and still be waiting to watch the next episode of One Piece. Based on 52 weeks a year x 10 years = 520 weeks (I know there is more to it, but it still makes a point) Out of those 520 weeks how many will air One Piece? 500? 450? 400? We're at the halfway point of the Grand Line. A HUGE event is taking place right now, no matter how it ends, something big will be in the result. I can't see anything else topping this event, though I will probably be wrong. All in all, where the Strawhats are and whats going on in the world of One Piece, I don't see another ten years. Though I'm all up for further explanation of everyone/where else. There are a lot of characters that can be worked around that could provide good entertainment if the series ends without full resolve around them.

I've heard rumours that there is going to be a big time skip in the manga (I don't read the manga though) soon where they will jump over a year in time forward.

I would not mind a few months to a year jump for Luffy to recover and the other Strawhats to filter back in.

^ Me neither, actually.
I think it would be good to change Luffy's image a bit because if he's to be the Pirate King, I really don't see him in the role as it is (as opposed to an awesome guy like Whitebeard).

A years jump wouldn't make him look to much older though, and he would still probably be as stupid as ever, if it were a few years it could do that for his image, but I don't think I would want that big of a jump.

I don't think age will increase Luffy in the smarts department, just look at Garp.

Lol  but it could at least make him look more the part like Shanks or Ace.

to be honest it should be almost over cuz when you pay attention luffy is causing such a big reaction to the naval headquarters and now they know he's related to dragon aint nobody gonna hold back and IF luffy manages to beat the situation he's in rite now that mutha ****a might as well be the pirate king
so it should be over in about the summer of 2011

Hahahahaha  There's no way it will be over in 2011. I bet it will take that long just for the crew to get back together.

All I know is this is going to be the last saga. I think it'll end by 2012 or 2013

What will be the last saga? The post-marineford arc? How the heck did you come up with that idea? The crew all have a lot to do before they reach Raftel, not least of which is to re-assemble at the Saboady Archipelago. At the VERY LEAST this is the penultimate arc and even that is extremely unlikely.
