It's a pretty old one, not REALLY old but like 1989 I think. The publisher is Unwin Paperbacks, it says 3rd Edition. It has an awesome cover pic of Barad-dûr done by Roger Garland.

I'm not exactly sure how to answer this question. I have a pool of about 15-20 books at any given time that I consider "currently reading", that I pick up and put down as I feel like depending on my mood, but that would be tedious to list.

I suppose I can go with "most recently read", which implies I at least read a few pages before putting it down, and it's on my reading list.

Going with that, The Book of Sailor Knots is my "current read". As expected, the knots are ingenious and fun to do, but I don't see any practical use to them since I doubt I'll be handling any form of string on a regular basis within the next few years. There's still a few I'll be sure to memorize.

There are likely heaps of books written that way but the only others I can think of off the top of my head are Finnegan's Wake and The Atrocity Exhibition, I can't get through anything like that but maybe you'd enjoy those if you haven't come across them already.

In my mind there's a kind of cat's cradle or indra's net or rubber band ball that connects P.K.D., Will Self, R.A.W., Thompson, Burroughs, Leary, Watts, McKenna, Reich, Grof, scaled in rough order from phantastic to plausible - all related either by proxy of or their orbit about drugs.

The Three Musketeers

Decided to pick this up because of how much I enjoyed The Count of Monte Cristo. I wasn't too impressed at the start. It appeared to be a predictable story about your would-be hero in search of romance, and while it was fun and (mostly) lighthearted, it suffered from a few unconvincing coincidences (a minor gripe I had with Monte Cristo). It just wasn't what I was looking for.

Until chapter 33. D'Artagnan underwent a much unexpected and even somewhat sinister change. His manipulation of Kitty was, I must say, rather cruel. For the first time reading this book, I am genuinely interested in what happens next.

Oh, and the word love was used about 30 times in the span of 10 pages in chapter 12. Augh.

Republic and Laws are too long and boring! Only managed to read book 10 of Laws because it was interesting, defending the existence of the gods and souls and stuff.

If you're just starting Plato or are otherwise interested then would recommend Meno, it's short and has a bit of everything, questions about virtue, mathematics, geometry, soul migration, memory. Protagoras carries on from Meno and is one of my favourite dialogues.

I'm working on Beyond Good and Evil by Nietzsche.

I'm currently about 3/4 the way through book 1 (I'm not exactly speed reading, huh :P), it's interesting, though I have to say some of the discussion seems to drag on, I understand they are trying to debate from every angle, but damn :P. In all honesty the only reason I'm reading it, is my dad picked it up for fun, he stopped reading it so I decided I would give it a go. Not sure if I'll actually read it to the end, but it's interesting enough so far that it's pretty likely. Meno sounds interesting as well, I'll have to look around for a copy.

It's hard to resist skipping the whole book. It's interesting but, it's just so monotonous.
It's only a couple of hundred pages and considering the amount of whitespace in the text from the numbered headings it's even less than that. You could finish it in a weekend if you ploughed through it.

Yeah, it might come across as being overly scholastic and needlessly pedantic but the idea is to advance in small, clear, logical steps towards having a better grasp of whatever the subject is.

If you get into reading this stuff it'll be cheaper to pick up a collected works, the Hackett edition is good.

You can read all the dialogues online for free. Only problem is the translations, being public domain, are old and tend to use obtuse language.

1/3 of the way through Guards| Guards| by Terry Pratchett, very funny book!
Nice. Have you read the previous novels in the series? Really need to get round to reading some of the Discworld stuff, I've only watched some TV adaptations of them.

I'm like 200 pages through this book I bought that wasn't what I thought it was, on Witchcraft and the history of Witch trials. The book is "Thinking With Demons". It's a history of developments in medicine, natural philosophy and empirical thinking, and how the extreme example of Witch-Craft helped thinkers work through so many problems with epistemology. It also deals in gender issues and anything else related to Witch-Craft, in some places with many pages of menial details.

Well I just finish Brom's the Child Thief. here is my short review

Brom's The Child Thief is a dark re-imagining of Peter Pan. But don't think this is a children bed time story. You'll find in the first couple of pages molestation, rape, and murder.
This is defiantly not the Disney Peter Pan that most of us remember. Peter is still as carefree and charismatic as ever. But this Peter is the manipulative; manipulating kids to put their lives on the line for him. He's homicidal; killing with ease. And above all else he's psychotic; Killing and leading children to their death with no remorse.
But this story is more than just shock value. At the heart of this book is still a Peter Pan adventure. Peter and the devils(lost boys) are still fighting the Pirates and still all about playing games. And in a weird way it kind of has a touching story as to what made Peter the way he is. Overall it's a magical book and I would suggest it to all adults that enjoy books like harry potter.

The first couple of chapters were extremely brutal, but I found myself staying in their for salander chapters. But then when the middle kicked in I was hooked. But I do question all the sex in the book, I'm not sure all of that was needed. Not that I mind sex in books, but when it has a purpose

But anyways I just finished The good, The Bad, and The Undead. This series is one of my guilty pleasures. My only problem though is the author takes awhile to get the story going, and I feel like she could really move things along. Also the characters aren't even very likable either, but for whatever reason I find my self enjoying this series.

As for right now, I'm reading Peter & Max, this seems like a easy and relaxing read. Also I'm enjoying that not every page is a wall of text, there are pictures and designs on some of the pages, it's very nice.

Return to Dragon Mountain: Memories of a Late Ming Man by Jonathan Spence.

This is Spence's latest book. (Spence is a professor of Chinese History at Yale University) All of his books are well worth reading, facinating stories of China's past as reflected in the lives of individuals. In this case the life of Zhang Dai, a wealthy upper class 'scholar' and the discription of his life during the before, transition between the Ming Dynasty and the Manchu Qing Dynasty and it's aftermath to a changed world.
