Yeah, my parents' house is only a few decades younger than the United States Of America...
BTW I suggest Tetley teabags, and make your tea with boiling water poured directly onto the teabags as it's just that second come off the boil, stirring in a teapot... for about a minute... then wait another minute, and pour the tea onto the milk in your cups, not the other way round. This makes the most perfect cup of tea, don't let anyone tell you otherwise. PERFECT tea. Ahhhhhhhhh.

The difference between the English and Americans: An Englishman thinks a hundred miles is a long way while an American thinks a hundred years is a long time.

Also, you think America is young? People have only lived here in NZ for 800 years, and Europeans for around 250.

I think that Walt is referencing the "tea parties" (http://www.nytimes.com/2009/04/16/us/politics/16taxday.html?ref=your-money) that some Americans are taking part in to protest some taxes. By throwing tea bags at the White House.
Once again showing that most Americans have absolutely no idea what tea is for. :P

I haven't heard about anyone throwing tea bags at the White House but these Tea Party rallys are very important. True Americans are upset with the growing Federalism and government spending and taxation.
Funny how if the the left protests its OK in the medias eyes but the "right wingers" do it, it's wrong. The Tea Party's are a a true grass roots movement formed by Americans that believe in the Constitution and our Founding Fathers. It is not a white power rally or anti-Obama. Nor is it an anti-capitalist or Anarchist riot like during the RNC and DNC.
MSNBC and CNN are raging over these 'tea parties" but to them, a protest against our troops or against capitalism is OK. a march to for illegal immigration is OK (if you are against it you are a racist). But tese protests arround the country are either white power rallies or right-wing extremists even though it is a non-partisan movement
I have ordered a Gadsden Flag to fly on my porch.

Well, I can see spending some money if it's going to help boost our economy, but money is being wasted on certain things. In my opinion, it's being wasted on the war in Iraq. Not meaning to offend or upset anyone, but every day or almost every day, I hear on the news of some more of our troops being blowed up or killed somehow over there. Apparently, the Iraqi residents don't want us there or don't want our help. So why waste our resources and our troops' lives for people who want us out of there?
And I wanna know where all does our tax dollars go to? I know where I used to live, the property taxes I was paying, the borough seemed to have been only using it for their own amusement. (Booze, donuts, etc.) None of the roadways were ever repaired, the borough could never keep a decent police force, etc. Heck, the town wouldn't even take a minute to mark a handicap parking space for me in front of my house. I kept getting bounced back and forth between the Borough and the County. I even called and left a State Representative a message and he never got back to me.
On another note, can anyone spare me a cup of nice, refreshing, cold Sweet Tea? lol

Government spending will NOT help the economy. Obama's spending package (his economci stimulus package) if FILLED with frivolous spending. I think it even tells the states exactly (to the letter) what the money needs to be used for. One earmark was even for some kind of pork research

Yeah i heard about that today. I live in TX and i gotta say..this news disturbs me. Breaking apart from the US is not the answer to this problem. The last thing we need right now is civil/political disputes in our own nation.
Everybody just wants the action! The consequences don't even hit hard untill after its all said and done. Seriously people need to think espcially when incharge of political desicions. :(

Indeed, Perry's little Texan humor got blown out of proportion. But he's up for reelection, and after that foreign highway he wanted + those freaking vaccines, he doesn't stand to much of a chance against KBH. lol. But it is nice to see someone speak up and tell the feds to shove it. And I seem to remember Vermont wanting to leave the union during Bush's administration, but I don't remember them saying that they should be charged with treason.
Texans joke about this kinda thing all the time at least my friends and I do, but were no were near that point yet, but if they pass gun registration + give all illegals amnesty, I'd support leaving the union. It would be a sad sad day in American history though, but it wouldn't be the first time Texas said piss off to an oppressive government. We should have said this when the passed they patriot act and federalized our national guards. lol.

The "tea parties" are a massive joke. They don't want just lower taxes--They want to get rid of taxes altogether. How the hell do they expect to have a government that's capable of enforcing the laws, maintaining an army, or paying off its debts if they get rid of their only source of revenue? Seriously, they might as well just demand anarchy.
I wouldn't mind Texas having to attempt to leave the union though. We might bring some juice into the economy if the government invested in military hardware to gear up for a second civil war.

Actually most of the people that attended the parties, want to instate a Fair Tax, or a spending tax that way every one in the USA has to pay taxes, not just the middle class any more. And maybe we could lose some of the dead weight in our country.

lol, looks like somebody doesn't know that our system of taxation is dependent on one's ability to pay, rather than have some flat tax that the poor can't pay and the rich can glance over.
But liberals don't believe in war remember.
Nah, we believe in war, provided that waging one actually makes a direct impact on the way the country operates domestically. We've just been acting like spineless pussies with our tails between our legs for the past 30 years in disputing questionable foreign policies, attempting to push for the failed concept of "bipartisanship". You wouldn't see liberals acting like this 200 years ago, especially not in France, where you'd get your head cut off if you messed with them. :naughty:

Federal income tax in the most inefficient way to collect, 40 percent of all revenue is taken up by collection. The fair tax's only legitimate criticisms is that it puts all it's eggs in one basket and does not cut spending.

It would destroy the US, you would instantly loose the only state with a positive trade balance, your 3rd largest port, 50% of your refining capacity, and a large sections of your industrial, agricultural and mineral wealth. In fact if they actually did a Red State blue state split the Blue States would come out worse because they depend on importing so many things from Red States.

Actually, we import most of our stuff from foreign countries. Thank you, NAFTA! Also we'd be pretty well off since the US is far beyond the point of no return in the transition to a service and information based economy, and the red states we already know can't compete with foreign producers like China, so... I think we could get by without Texas.

Wouldn't it be a bad idea to implement a fair tax during a bad economic situation? I can't realistically imagine the government wanting to switch to what's essentially a giant sales tax in a time where nobody wants to buy or invest in anyhting.

Dutch Disease is already rampant in the Northeast and West Coast because of taxation and cost of living. It is less rampant in the South and Midwest, you could also be sure that the taxation policies would change. A 30% reduction or elimination of corporate taxes would eliminate China as an attractive alternative. Even the poorest rural states have something China, India, and any other 3rd world country will not gain for at least another 50 years, infrastructure.

Yea I actually do know a little something about our taxing system, due to the fact I actually pay mine, unlike the current administration. And the poor would be able to afford a fair tax, hence the name, they don't tax food. It's already been calculated that if we'd been on a fair tax system that since WW2 that we wouldn't even have a deficit. But since this country's theme has gone from hard work equals = good life to the government owes me a house, a car and a pony, I doubt it'll ever pass.
As per the liberal stuff, your talking about the french, ha the french never could fight worth a damn anyways. lol. There's already a mass exodus from California, New York and states with similar policies due to all the additional tax's their putting on anyone who actually works for what they have. Factoid in New York city less than 1% of its population pays for 50% of their tax revenue, yea that's really fair.
