I'm losing my touch. A few years back, I'd have a million dirty jokes that would derail this thread with what you gave me. Now, I am second to Prons. Dammit, man.

Are those like long skateboards?
Nah, I have better things to do. Like making stupid, pointless posts here.

A longboard is a surf board. Skateboards don't count because it's just surfing for cowards.

Waters in Washington must be pretty cold though Videl. Since no one seems to be answering I would suggest finding someone that offers classes to teach you. I hope you find it enjoyable.
Consider buyign a wet/dry suit too.

um yeah, taking 20 feet of vertical air on a solid wooden/concrete half pipe doesn't take as many balls as a wave.
I will definitely think about that the next to I'm at the terrain park.
Oh and speaking of boards, Snowboarding has the potential to break bones and fracture skulls just becuase the half pipe is covered in snow does not mean there's a hard base under it, let alone drown, but don't worry becuase the waves are far more dangerous.

Have you ever actually been surfing.

You're using an example of advanced skateboarding and trying to make it sound like the most extreme waves ever ridden by surfers are 2-3 feet. Try 60+ feet, moving 20+ miles per hour and coming down on the surfer with enough force to break bones and pull them 50 feet or more under the water.
On top of that, waves don't stop coming, so a surfer is in big trouble if they don't surface before the next wave hits them.

No, but People who can skateboard, don't seem to care about the surfing industry since they're pretty happy with their sport.
I'm no anywhere near the coast in which it's actually worth to surfboard so my adventures on the surf board are non-existent.
I'd love to learn how to surf board, but it's not on my priority list at the moment.

Are we going to turn this thread into a skateboarding vs surfboarding poll? :D Because that'd awesome! Go skaters!

I wouldn't ever enjoy surfing. I don't like getting wet. Ontario water never gets anywhere near warm too.
Competitive sausage eating is more my speed.

Not talking about surfing by the way. I meant longboards as in longer skateboards, bigger wheels, ect.

sorry Videl don't know anything about skateboarding. What do you intend to use it for? Transportation? downhill? (Insert other wikipedia based use here)?

Meh, never mind. I expected more people to know. Longboarding is meant for bombing hills and coasting. So the riding aspect of boarding. You can still do tricks, but that's not what longboarding is about. I use it to get around like on campus and whatnot.

I know what it's about, just took me a while to focus on why the Longboard is used.
seams like the equivalent of a skim board with wheels.

Can't believe there's a thread for this, cool. I've been saving up for one for a while now. Ever since I saw them at a local Zumiez, I've wanted one.
I used to skateboard, but that was a while ago. Longboards are much smoother, so I decided on that.
I actually do own a skimboard and I'm looking forward to using it this summer.

Yeah, I bought mine with all the components separately. Last time I bought a longboard premade from a store, it sucked major balls.

Yeah, that's what I was gonna do, but I feel like a longboard would be a much more pleasant ride. You know?

If you're not interested in doing any tricks, then definately.
For me, however, I may be going place to place and see a spot that i'd like to skate for a bit.

Yeah, I'm really not great at tricks at all.
So for you, a regular board would work great then. :)

That's like saying all people who go to Metallica concerts are big burly guys with tattoos all over their bodies and they prefer to wear very tight leather pants and jackets like they're a part of Hell's Angles, and they love the Mowhawk.
Also drinking is their national pass time.

It sure is. The majority of kids today are spoiled brats that think they're entitled to cell phones and mp3 players. It's really the fault of the parents.
I didn't get my own phone until I was 17.
Sorry, this is off topic.
