View Full Version : Should I just give up and just go with the flow?
Lacan

I know that I get angry when alot of injustices are happening in society, like children being branded as pedophiles, or that the we seem to have less privacy everyday online and in real life. Or the fact that there are laws restriction freedom of others. Should I just give up and not fight and complain anymore, and just listen to what the government and corporations and law has to say, no matter how it limits my freedom?
The real question is that should I quietly surrender, because I might not be the right person to go on these issues? Before one day I might get into serious legal trouble, even though I am protected my free speech? Hopefully there are good people out there that are way better and smarter then me to fight the good fight.

You need to read Dianetics: The Modern Science of Mental Health by L. Ron Hubbard. It explains why you get angry for no reason and experience eradic and seemingly destructive thoughts. I can give you an e-book version if you want.
I also suggest the Dao De Jing, if you're feeling eastern.

L. Ron Hubbard is a D Bag for founding Scientology. I have a hard time giving him credibility for anything he writes. I'd purchase something and read it myself, if I knew my hard-earn money wasn't going toward him.
The Dao De Jing is great though, makes you think in ways that you haven't before, even if it what you found in the book wasn't really what you were looking for.

My opinion is no, don't give up, if you don't like something that's happening, then stand up for what you believe. But (and this is something you have to accept), you will very likely get **** about it from a lot of people. Anytime you take a non-mainstream stance on something there will be "haters" (likely a lot of them, depending on how non-mainstream your idea may be). The biggest thing is if your going to take a stand, you have to really believe in what your saying, you can't be a hypocrite about it, and you can't resort to name calling or other childish behavior if someone (or a group of someones) starts to argue points with you.
That being said there are some situations where you can be pretty sure no matter what you say/do nothing is really going to change much from the way it is. That's not to say you should give up fighting, but don't be suprised when it's not much differnet no matter how hard you fight it.

something else you might find both humorous and appropriate would be this:
taken from abrupt.org
(Found on a bathroom wall somewhere in the U.S.A.)
You've taken over my mind. You've raped my thoughts with your image viruses then sold me fake cures for your own disease. Your words and pictures scream orders at me like angry prison wardens. When I cover my ears, your voices echo in my head. I hate you. When I see your billboards, your talk shows, your rock concerts and your factories, when I see the work of your twisted libidos, I want to kill you. I want to set fires, plant bombs, derail trains. I want to smash your buildings and tear at your bodies until the skin of my hands is worn to the bone. I am filled with a rage that burns my eyes.
I don't want to feel this way. You have done this to me. These feelings are the fruits of your multi-billion dollar sowing. And I am not alone. There are others like me out here. Every suicide, every madman, every man and woman who gets a gun and just starts shooting -- these are your illegitimate children. They don't all know what they are doing. All they know is hate for the invisible walls which you have raised around them, hate for the narrow path you have tried to make them walk. And the innocent pay in blood for your negligence.
Remember this: My mind is big. The more you try to push me down and make me small, the greater the pressure inside me becomes. The greater the pressure, the greater the chance of an explosion. There was once a time when I felt love, but now I feel only hate and anger, and fear at what I might do. And you can tell me to "BE HAPPY," but I know that you really mean "BE QUIET".
Believe me, I want to be happy. You stand in my way.

I suppose if you were interested you could also read Brave New World: revisited, a collection of essays written by Aldous Huxley packed fully of commentary on social and political issuses (it's from the 1950's but the issuses are, for the most part, still legitament now, or more so in the case of things like over population). You could read Brave New World while your at it since it's awesome, but it's far more fiction than Revisited. ;)

I'm not just talking about here, I mean everywhere, even life. When I told some people that they are blood thirsty thugs, at that teen parenting site, even though how crazy they are in saying that the 14 year old girl deserved prison. I feel that I crossed the line and could get into legal trouble.
I know I should be true to myself and you are all right in that, but at the same time I fear that one day I may cross the line and bring the drama into real life, which I was about to, and get into real legal trouble.
I have this problem about caring too much about the whole world. And the internet has actually gave me way more information about it then TV, news papers, and radio will ever have. I heard some really evil stuff that I wish I could put a stop to.
I might just take a walk as long as it is still legal.

Short answer, yes.
Long answer, yes because half the time you have no idea what you're talking about and you can't argue for ****.
You won't get into serious legal trouble, don't be so bloody retarded. You don't live in China you can speak freely especially on the internet. The worst that will happen is you get banned which is extremely unlikely.
Once you give a coherent argument and think before you say things, then you can complain and the like.
Of course that's just me being a ****head.
Just keep in mind that any political opinion is going to meet hostility. Just work on that glass jaw and you'll be fine.
And the coherence. Work on that too.

I honestly HIGHLY doubt your going to get in any sort of legal trouble for calling someone a blood thirsty thug on a website, seriously. Consitering some of the truely nasty things that get said on forums and how very rarely you ever hear of anyone actually getting in any legal trouble over it. Unless your making posts about killing someone or being truely threatening to the point where your finding out personal info on people and posting it for them to see (to show that you know where they are and that you can and will hurt them) your probably in the clear.
There's lots of evil things in this world, but sadly no matter how hard you may try, it's impossible to get rid of it all. There isn't, and never will be, a perfect utopia.

The problem isn't that you just care too darn much about the whole world. Don't sprain something patting yourself on the back about how progressive and caring you are. I find these displays of moral exhibitionism to be tiresome.
The problem is that you are usually semi-coherent, poorly informed, overwrought and absurdly melodramatic.
One of the first things I remember seeing you post was an absurd paranoid story about how the CERN collider was going to destroy the world and you have been posting stuff like that since.
In another thread you called adding a few words of Japanese into English conversation as 'raping' the language. That you would use the word rape in that context is utterly friggin' ridiculous It's overwrought past the point of being asinine. You seem to have no sense of proportion whatsoever. People who describe a manga character as 'kawaii' aren't just beng a bit silly. Oh no. They are engaged in 'raping' the language. Oh dear me. How terrible. What silly, overwrought, preposterous bullcrap.

I have nothing against you as a human being, but since you're asking for an honest evaluation, I'm going to point out two things that I'd recommend you work on.
When I told some people that they are blood thirsty thugs, at that teen parenting site, even though how crazy they are in saying that the 14 year old girl deserved prison.
Here's the first thing. While the folks to whom you responded at the teen parenting site might well have been in the wrong, your response was equally inappropriate, just in the other direction.
I don't know what 14 year old girl you're talking about, but I assume some folks read a story about a 14 year old girl doing something that offended their moral sensibilities, so they said something to the effect of "Lock her up and throw away the key!"
You probably consider that 'wrong', and I'm willing to bet that if you were to describe why you find it wrong, you'd say it's an overreaction that doesn't address the actual issue.
Now take a look at your own response. What you meant to express was your particular distaste with their overreaction to the situation. What you did was label your opponents "blood thirsty thugs".
Blood Thirsty Thugs.
Do you even know what those words mean?
You're guilty of the same overreaction that you find frustrating in the Blood Thirsty Thugs to whom you responded. And by calling them that, you simply tossed gasoline onto the fire. Is that your goal? Do you think that's going to get those thugs to seriously reconsider their position, or do you think it's more likely that your unreasonable, irrational response will simply cause them to dig further into their trenches and use your own anger to justify their position?
Ask yourself: How do you react in that situation?
If you don't want to continue to be labeled a Flametard, then how about you try this: When you hear someone's position and you disagree with it strongly, how about you try to:
- Research the subject matter
- Develop a solid understanding of the subject matter and your position on the topic
- Think about your opponents' positions on the matter - specifically why they hold the positions they do
- Think about the differences between your position and theirs - where you agree and where you disagree.
- Think about the best way to present your position to them. Ideally, you should present it to them as they would present your point of view to themselves.
- Present your position with polite respect. Listen to their responses. Adjust the way you phrase your position to them in order to clear up any misunderstandings.
Try that, and you won't be perceived as a flametard.
I feel that I crossed the line and could get into legal trouble.
Here's the other problem you might want to work on: Critical thinking. You have not one reason to suspect that stating your opinion in an internet discussion has legal repercussions.
You're not basing that statement on the actuality of law, nor a logical train of thought from the laws as written. You're just throwing out a knee-jerk reaction that turns out to be completely wrong. This makes you look ignorant, emotional, or both.
Before making statements like that in the future, try looking up the laws regarding free speech, slander, libel, etc. Then apply critical thinking to the situation. Does what you said actually violate the letter of the law? No? Then you're not going to be arrested. Common sense.
I realize that you might not read my entire post, so I'll give you the short answer: Think before clicking that "Submit Post" button.
If you don't know how to think, then go up to a math teacher and say, "I want you to show me how to apply logic to real-world thinking problems." He/she should be able to show you how. Practice often.

Heck i'll go as far to say that the AN forum has to be without a doubt the most unusual but at the same time intresting place i have ever been on in years.
I get bashed..i get disgusted. Yet i still find ways to stand up to my words.
It never hurts to question and follow your heart! Just because it might be the most unpopuler thing you decide..doesn't meen its not the right one or at least to question it. Trust me your not alone. Heck there are people forming tea parties latly beacuse of the crap and things happening over the years.
Look let me put it another way...without risk there can be no progress.
Drama is bound to happen wiether you expect it or not. Thats what makes life great! Its unpredictable. If we already knew what was gonna happen..like in a video game and we already know what the boss is gonna do because you've played the game soo many times..then it becomes stale.
So seriously..follow your heart. Don't be afraid and just try your best to keep it clean with the words when you post.
Trust me i get bashed but no matter what i do respect the rules and i follow my heart. Thats whats called being human...or at least last time i checked.lol

Seriously though, just relax. There's no need to give up believing in what you believe in, but there's always a time and place to say things. Sometimes even if you have an opinion, it's just best to shut up because this is the internet. Taking it as srsbsns will only quicken your heart, blow smoke from your ears, give you migraines and keep you in front of the comp all day long.
