Oh god...
Yeah, I always wear a seat belt. I have a lot of crazy friends and family who get themselves into s****y situations so I generally take precautions.

A seatbelt isn't going to do you much good when you're fleeing from the police in a stolen car at 100+ mph, which is likely to be the context of this video, as helicopters don't just randomly record cars driving along with some kind of precognition of an incident.

I think this is a video good for the DMV, the Highway cops in training and the guys who are busted for stealing and attempting to pass cars in a single lain highway at 100+ MPH.
Except I would believe you would still be inside the car if you were strapped to it even if you where spinning that fast. (Race car drivers end up in that kind of mess all the time, but they're smart enough to wear the belt.)
Course it would be scary either way. and the Race car has a role cage designed to keep the driver safe in that tornado like crash.

Yeah I'm pretty certain it's a cop chase too :P. As for the seatbelt not doing much, that might be the case, but at least he would have stayed in the car. 'Cause in all honesty if the crash and roll didn't kill him, you can be pretty sure getting ran over after he flew out into the on comming lane didn't do him any favors either ;).

Isn't there a law about this in America? Here in the Socialist Republic of Biscuitree, we are bound by law to wear a seatbelt on both the front and back seats.

I always though here in America if you're riding in the front a seatbelt is required but not the back.
Oh yeah, and using a cell phone in some states is illegal, no matter how you use it. I foresee this as becoming the norm in every state, it's just a matter of time.

It is illigal, but that guy wasn't exactly following the law by steeling the vehicle anyway... and quite literally, driving like a maniac.

This is how I understand it, but that could just be a NY/NJ thing for all I know.

I believe Illinois law got changed a few years back, and it's now something you can be pulled over and ticketed for. Prior to the change you could not get pulled over for no seatbelt alone, but if you were pulled over for say, speeding, and didn't have a seatbelt on you could get a second ticket for it.

It's been the law here in the UK since 1983 to wear a seatbelt in a front seat, and then a while after that, it became a requirement to wear rear seatbelts where available. You can definitely get a ticket for it here, I'm a little surprised if American law doesn't require the same.

Seatbelt laws are under the jurisdiction of the states, which can set any policy they want. Different states have different laws - no seatbelts, only the driver, the driver and passengers, special regulations for child seats, etc.

I miss those crash dummy comercials. It said it best. I always rember the message "You could learn a lot from a dummy. Buckle your seatbelt."
lol priceless moments. But with the right message.

How did that idiot manage to run him over? Doesn't he have any reflexes at all?

my guess is he was either not paying attention, or got distracted by all the cars skidding around him and was watching them instead of looking for what they were trying to avoid.

as it has alrady been said, The federal government is not SUPPOSE to make federal laws, That power was given to the states i nthe 10th amendment. The federal Government is only suppose to regulate international governmental business and collect tariffs. The stomped on the COnstitution when they made the Income Tax and IRS.
on topic: Idiot shouldn't have been running and I laughed heartily at his fate. Though I hope it isn't in California or the driver that hit his corpse might be charged

I do see the sense in that, but my surprise is not diminished. I still don't understand why seatbelts aren't required by the states. I suppose it is in the interest of freedom of choice...

well seat belt use is regulated in many states, all states have some type of seat belt law. I think here in ND it is a secondary offense and only concerns people in the front seats.
and this particular guy was already runing fro mthe law, I think the seat belt was the last of his worries, though it doess make agood point on what can happen to an individual not buckled up in a roll over crash

Collateral Confusion, of cource from the Helicopter's point of view you can see everything.
But when was the last time you ever saw a guy fly out into the middle of the highway unexpectedly?
and from the looks of it, he seemed paralyzed in mid flight to begin with (the rag doll effect started in mid air, I almost didn't realize it was a real person at first) He probably hit that first car pretty hard and blacked out.

The Union of Socialist Tristate Area. Yeah I pretty much wear a seatbelt whenever sitting in the front, its sort of just instinct. In the back however I never do, because it just feels weird and unmanly.

As far as I know they're required by my state for anyone riding in the vehicle, including those in car seats.
But then again we also have a law stating cars cannot be sold on Sunday in counties with more than 130,000 people (my county doesn't even come close to applying), so...:uhh: .
Take that as you will.
