*this is dedicated to Cpl Williams. Though you may have passed on, you will not be forgotten. Semper Fi brother and Engineer Up.

From time to time we all here how people serving in the military make extraordinary sacrifices to defend the freedom of our nation and abroad. In the military we do believe in that mantra, but not as much as you think. Though we may fight for the flag, for the nation, or for the people. There's something that runs deeper than that for us. We fight for each other. Protecting each other’s back and sacrificing ourselves so that our buddy may live to fight on knowing he would do the same.

Why do I say this, well a Marine I knew for a little while, and a good person to talk to, was killed in action on a deployment to Afghanistan. That's all I know for now.

Sorry to see this man. Seeing as how he fell under Division, he had to have volunteered to go to Afghanistan, with OEF being one of the most critical operations the U.S is engaged in today. His sacrifice wasn't made in vain.

Sorry to hear that. It's hard for people to know the cost of our freedom. I see and understand why we are over there
I've known 3 men who have all fallen in Iraq.
one was a childhood friend.
cpl. Nathan Schubert (Marine) Born 1-27-82 - Died 1-26-05
He was killed when the helicopter he was in went down.

the other two I met by chance. One from college and the other lived in the next town.

My condolances, man. I would like to hear the details if you ever get them.

He was killed by a roadside bomb/ IED.

In somewhat unrelated news this happened a few days ago in a training area near the Camp I'm stationed on.

TOKYO: A US Marine was killed and two service members injured Tuesday in a blast at an explosives dump in an American military training area in southern Japan, the Marine Corps said.

"The service members were part of an explosive ordnance disposal team preparing unexploded ordnance for disposal when the explosion occurred," the US Marine Corps said in a statement.

The blast hit the two Marines and one sailor at the training ground near Camp Schwab in southern Okinawa Prefecture. The Marine Corps said it was investigating the incident.

The story is more gruesome when you get into the details.

^ Last I heard it was an EOD staff sergeant at CTA. Definitely one of the more dangerous specialties in the military.
