Don't own this to know what it's like to use but it's a really cool idea!

Wow, that's a really cool idea. Maybe cool enough for purchase if the price and value is right.
Are they the abridged version or what?

Unabridged; plain text compresses down amazingly well.
This was advertised on TV an awful lot during the Christmas break; I got a bit sick of the adverts while I was over at my parents' house.
It seems to be a big seller, though I have read reviews that complain of the size of the DS screen being too small and it being annoying and a distraction to have to turn the pages so often. Each book is over a thousand pages long on DS screens.

Interesting idea, but I can't imagine reading something on a screen that small.

That is a freaking awesome idea. I also want the Mah-Jong game.

I got Brain Age like a month or so ago, and the Reading Aloud activity or whatever it's called got me to thinking, "It'd be so cool if the full text versions of these books were available on this thing." Really cool. The font was nice and large, and the screen is so bright.
Also, a thing like this would allow me to keep my street cred... Can't let my posse catch me with a book, they'll think I'm gettin' soft on 'em. :(

^ And you, friend, have nothing of the prankster.
On topic : I don't see the merit in purchasing this when Project Gutenberg exists. Perhaps a DS is easier to lug around, but a laptop is much better.

Gaston LeRoux is on it but no Dostoevsky? It has Melville too, no just, NO! Every one associated with this game should be forced to listen to Ben Stein read Billy Bud the Sailor continuously for one year or until suicide.

Now that you mention it, the lack of Dostoyevsky is flagrant. No Brothers Karamazov? No Crime and Punishment? I also note the lack of Tolstoi and Bram Stoker's Dracula isn't even there. They could have cut down on the Shakespeare and Jane Austen and included 100 Years of Solitude, The Alchemist, Kafka works, Candide, Le Petit Prince, Don Quixote de La Mancha and, lord of lords, but Dante's The Divine Comedy isn't even there. At least Lord Jim is there...
The idea is a good one and I commend the inclusion of major works, and it might get people reading more, but any serious reader will reconsider since these are mostly classics people have already read. I also wish The Gormenghast Novels would get recognized one of these days...

I think the DS would be more user friendly, honestly.
After some thinking, as cool as this idea is (I might still get it) nothing can beat laying under your covers, with your reading glasses and lamp on, turning page to page, smelling the aroma of the pages pass your nose in a subtle, yet distinctive way.
That by itself makes reading books infinitely more rewarding. Still a really cool idea thou.

What the hell. ryushe you read books? and you're smiling? The folks at BET aren't going to be happy about this.
On topic. I don't think the DS is good for reading books, I'd prefer a laptop or maybe even an iPod/iPhone. The best thing for me is still actual books. Except if I'm broke. Then, I'm not picky.

From the screenshot on amazon it looks like there are only a couple of sentences per screen. -_-;
It would be a pain to have to press a button every few seconds.
Wow, that's a really cool idea.
Really cool!

Last I checked, BET advocated reading books. specifically, **********ing Books. It also advocated wearing deodorant ***** and brushing your ***damn teeth for that matter.
ON TOPIC: Would be better on the PSP honestly. Bigger screen and whatnot. Still a cool idea though,

If I wanted to read a novel, a tiny 3 and a quarter inch screen would be the last thing I would want to just read from.
Maybe if I were on a trip or doing some short term waiting, I could understand this being an interesting form of entertainment, but since most of my reading daily is on a 19" LCD monitor already. Paper bound books are like a stretch out of the car after a long drive, let's the eyes breath a little bit.

If it has Lord of the Rings and Star Wars. Then i might be a little interested in it.
But hey a good read is a good read, I haven't read a text novel in a long time, now I'm starting to miss it.

That's what happens when you read Playboy and RALPH and Zoo etc.:P
Boobage immunity.
To be honest this sounds quite sucky for a computer game....:/ I'd rather not stare at a small screen but read something out of paper.

My eyes have never scanned the pages of a Playboy magazine ever. That doesn't mean I don't like my fare share of porn though (that's what the internet is for right?)
However I do get plenty of fan service through the various manga and graphic novels I "read".

You should, if only for the articles. The eye candy is always top quality, but the articles can stand proudly on their own.

meh, I prefer to not dig myself into things like that, I have other interesting things I could be looking at/reading.
I'm not a magazine type person.
