You know what i found to be soo sad. 2+ years ago in hollywood there was a writers strike. The strike put many people/actors out of work. In the end i think the writers won there demands i can't exactly rember all they won from it.
But to me i was talking to my bro and i told him.."Bad behavior only promotes more bad behavior. you know what this will do?
Just watch..the actors will strike next."
And fast forward to now...it may soon happen. So i'm intrested to hear you'lls opinions and thoughts about this strike situation.
What do you think?

Let them strike. It's going to be a tough sell for the union. Their strike will fail without the support of public opinion. Given how bad the economy's getting and how many people are out of work, I don't imagine the public will be particularly receptive to a group of people who're refusing to work until they get more money for entertaining people.
Ultimately, it doesn't affect me at all (nor did the Writer's strike), so I say let them strike.

It could fail but i gotta tell ya..severe damage will be done when its over. Many fans of tv shows will be unfairly screwed again. The public will lose faith and trust with hollywood altogther.
Personaly i dont want to see a strike happen. Its unfair for the public itself. America NEEDS entertainment with all the garbage happening in todays world.
I meen comon actors they make plenty of money already dont they? So why the strike to begin with? Just pure greed to me.

God forbid the american public wont be able to sit on thier *** to watch thier favourite primetime actor finance his rich lifestyle anymore because he wants even more money. I cannot even believe with the economy in the state that it is people would be worried about entertainment value going down because already greedy actors got even greedier. Remember those ancient volumes of knowledge bound in long forgotten hardback covers and printed on paper?
I love T.V, but most of the time its just on for noise.

It won't hurt them. They could go the rest of their lives without making another movie.
Why the hell are they on strike for anyway? They get millions upon millions of dollars with every movie they make, they own like 3 mansions, 10 cars, a big private plane, giant yachts, millions of dollars in diamonds, a Black Card.................is it the makeup person? I gotta admit she's kinda a *****.

It could fail
It will.
severe damage will be done
Absolutely not one thing of value will be affected, and even those things will not be affected permanently.
Many fans of tv shows will be unfairly screwed again.
Which is why it will fail.
Personal note: Gosh, you mean people will have to find other forms of entertainment? Like watching old movies, reading and getting outside. That's a shame. Yeah, I can definitely see how that would lead to society's ruin and downfall.
The public will lose faith and trust with hollywood altogther.
Can't lose what you never had, and anyone who has 'faith and trust with Hollywood' is a blithering idiot. Hollywood is a moneymaking machine, nothing more.
America NEEDS entertainment
And yet I've managed to somehow survive after giving up TV over a decade ago. Imagine that. There must exist other forms of entertainment media, or else I'd be dead.
No, America most certainly doesn't need Hollywood, despite Hollywood's best efforts to convince us that we do.
So why the strike to begin with? Just pure greed to me.
Bingo! And this is the institution in which you think people should have 'faith and trust'?

Sigh...
I thought this was saposs to be a intresting thread to focus on a possable Actors strike. Not bash waltsoph3.
Infact arent there AN forum rules ment to not flame/bash other members? No matter how feeble a topic might meen to you?
Seriously i dont appricate it. I'm not bashing or trolling you guys. You know who you guys are so can you please cut it out. Please? Its all i sincerly ask.
Now to answer a more serious question with regards of this topic . A while back the writers guild strike for money they belived was owe to them that wasn't originaly in there contracts. Mostly the ones about royalties earned from Internet distribution services such as iTunes, as well as DVD sales. Now the actors want a piece of that sweet pie. Heres a wiki linik about the actor one. Need more info just do "actors strike" as a web search.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2008_Screen_Actors_Guild_strike
Another intresting thing is there was a simular strike back when VHS was out.
Now to all of you who don't care about this let me..kindda point out something more important to consder.....when this is over depending on the demands...how much more will you the consumer have to start spending to buy a single dvd or dare i say..blue ray(since blue ray one the franchise wars)?
Hey somones gotta pay the actors/writers dues.
Is it a small possabilty that anime might be effected? (probaly not but you never know)
Also most of California's income comes from hollywood.
So hey im not trying to convince anybody here to be on my side. Infact it doesnt even effect my personal life..yet i still truly feel that its unfair for people that will be effected from this. Im just laying it out and intrested in everyones thoughts. So please can we stick to this topic and not on me. Please? Thank you for your time.

In short. I don't care if actors were to strike.

This is an interesting development nonetheless and people will deal with it in their own way. The entertainment industry is a big cash cow and there will be those who are affected, in some form or another. Those who shun Hollywood and its perceived (or not) evils will not lose a heart beat but you can bet that people will be keeping up on how things turn out.
You shouldn't take it personally as it I doubt it was a personal attack on you but rather your point of view. Those of us here who are very opinionated about certain topics will say what we think but keep in mind it is only OPINIONS on the matter at hand.
You're still new here so I would suggest you grow some thick skin. Although there was sarcasm and ridicule in some of the responses, I would hope that you would still voice your feelings on the situation. Besides, that's what everyone else does here. You asked for opinions and that's what you got. And you can choose to agree with them or feel free to think what you like.
It's funny that you say that America "needs" entertainment as I am reminded about what I had learned regarding the Great Depression. Although we are not in such a dire situation as that, Hollywood movies did provide some comfort to those who were affected at the time. Whether or not it was needed is debatable it seems. But I'm sure it was appreciated by those who were living at the time.
The strike will garner a lot of criticism from those that think that entertainers are grossly overpaid and by those who support the industry through ticket sales, cable subscriptions, rentals, downloads and streaming (legal of course) and purchasing. This turn of events will have some sort of meaning (or lack of) for everyone.
Leader Desslock
January 14th, 2009, 12:40 AM
when this is over depending on the demands...how much more will you the consumer have to start spending to buy a single dvd or dare i say..blue ray
I won't spend any more than I currently do, and I won't spend a dime for Blu-Ray. If they want to raise the price of a DVD, they can keep it. I'm fine with rentals. Simple enough.
As far as what the typical DVD consumer might have to pay, it'll be the same as it's always been: If you're too impatient to shop around or wait for a sale, you can expect to pay more.
Is it a small possabilty that anime might be effected?
No, it is not even a small possibility.
Also most of California's income comes from hollywood.
Very, very doubtful.
Pop up the US census figures for civilian income, specifically broken down by job category. You'll see that the bulk of the population is not associated with Hollywood at all.
Just because Hollywood is one of the most visible groups in California media doesn't mean they're the most important.
i still truly feel that its unfair for people that will be effected from this.
Then write to the Screen Actor's Guild and let them know that as a consumer of their goods, you're not willing to support their strike.

Uh, I believe the majority of the actors who want to vote yes for a strike authorization are the middle- and lower-class ones (meaning, we're not talking about the Brad Pitts and George Clooneys; but then again, they might vote yes in support of them)... They want negotiating and many of them would rather not have a strike as it affects the entire system--cameramen, gaffers, production crews, post-production crews, etc...

About renting dvds im glad you brought that up. Will people who rent dvds have to pay more for future realsed ones if prices do indeed go up? If so how much?
Anyways its gonna be intresting how this turns out.

In recent weeks, there's been at least one well-known business going bankrupt in the news every day; I'd say now is the worst possible time anyone could choose to go on strike. No-one is going to have any sympathy for a group of people who have already been paid for their work, asking for more ongoing payment, in times when friends/family have just lost their day jobs.

Okay, so let me get this straight.
There's no actor's strike at the moment, there's just a possibility of one happening because a non-related writer's strike took place two years ago and MIGHT HAVE IMPLANTED SOME SORT OF TIME-DELAYED SELF-DESTRUCT RESPONSE MECHANISM IN THE BRAINS OF ACTORS EVERYWHAR?!?! SAG WATCH OUT?!?!?!
Yes? Is this correct so far?
So, you posted this not to discuss the ramifications of an actual issue -- but to discuss a far-fetched non-existent issue, disguising it as something so real it will SHATTER SOCIETY AS WE KNOW IT! NEVAR SURVIVE!!!!!!11

Actually the two are related. The results of the writer's strike caused this actor one to be in talks. This a prime example of bad behavior rewarding bad behavior.A cause and effect.
And no im not trying to be a doomsday person here ok. lol
Just intrested in what you guys think about this strike and you'lls thoughts on it.
Also what tenshi_a said..that was spot on. Thats why another reason I find this situation so intresting. What will the results be from this if it did happen.

Rember it was the writers that put actors and others out of work for a while.
Now this may happen again only this time in irony it will be the writers looking for work along with the other same people that worked hard for there jobs staring back at them with..lets just say no remorse or compassion.

I don't watch TV and I don't care for Hollywood. I'm sure the people who depend on it will suffer, but the large majority of us will not. As has been said, it's a bad time to strike given the state of the economy.
On the other hand, since people won't have a TV to return to, they might decide to keep working out of boredom, thus reviving the economy. That would be a good thing!
Except Top Chef and Top Gear.

I heard he bought up a cocktail / tapas bar up the road from my workplace or something. I'm talking about 5 mins walk. Apparently the original establishment was failing, and I'd put that down to the location more than the bar itself - although it's in the centre of town, it's kind of down a back alley. I haven't been in there since I heard about him getting involved. I walked past once, a few weeks ago, and... it was really ominous! There were big black cars all around it with their engines running. In the pokey alleyways. I thought "uh-oh, I've seen this kind of scenario... in GTA4!" so I hurried off quickly, in case people started shooting or running over pedestrians.
I probably can't afford to go in there anyway...
Apparently the "Kitchen Nightmares" thing about that place was due to be broadcast sometime late January but I wasn't paying attention to see whether it has. I'm not interested in that kind of TV.
