I had a filling come out recently and it was surprising as I thought they would last longer than that. They were metallic originally and I had them in when I was younger.

The replacement, to my surprise, was one that matched the color of my tooth. So, one wouldn't readily be able to know that I had a filling done in that particular tooth (as opposed to the metallic colored ones that are still intact).

**Just wondering Chibiyume, first it was braces, then root canal and now fillings. You must have very good dental insurance to be having all this work done. It must be hard to smile at that now but it'll all be worth it later on. :)**

I have a couple fillings, they're not amalgam though. I think I read amalgam that has mercury in it, that's kind of freaky. I have white fillings (they're kind of like fake tooth that they put on and dry like cement). They work fine, and haven't given me any pain.

I've had fillings...they seem to wear out fast. Must be all that gatorade I drink!

Also, some advice. If you ever end up having to get a dreaded crown, get the metallic gold looking one if the tooth infected isn't visible while smiling. It costs the same as the natural looking ones and it lasts longer a lot longer. Crowns ain't cheap either, they cost like $1200!

crowns cost me 500-600 so i should be ok in that range but my tooth doesn't need crown i only need another crown but i could get that after braces

A good dental plan goes a long way...I just got a bill and it was higher than I thought it would be (but then I looked at the price without coverage ^_^ ).

I would talk to your dentist or orthodontist about your concerns. Chances are, they put those same type in many other mouths before yours so logically there can't be too much of a risk. But I am not sure myself but mercury isn't too good for your health ^_^
