Something like this is what car fans all over would love to find...a car kept in a garage, basement or barn for years that is in almost mint condition. Garage/barn finds ****ing rock.

uhm i like cars but who the hell would spend 4 million bucks on that? if i had 4 million dollars to spend on a car there'd be an infinite number of options before that

It's not an unexpected find. The fellow owning the car knew what it was worth, and collectors knew the car was in his garage. There were so few in existence, they tracked it down and tried to buy it from when he was still alive. The car collectors would post offers to buy the car through his letterbox, and the man would tear them in two. He loved that car, and tinkered with it quite a bit while he was still able to.
Now all those collectors can bid on the car in public, fair and square.
This was on the news on TV the other day - I was watching local news to the area where the man lived and his car was stored - so they know more about the circumstances than those in London.

If I was very rich, I'd spend 4 million on MULTIPLE cars.

If I were a collector of valuable cars, I wouldn't waist any time spending 4 mill on that car.

The only Bugatti I'd want is a Veyron. However in America with our speed limits it's impossible to REALLY use it. Except at Bonneville.
The sad thing is that many of the people who own highly expensive cars can't drive for **** (I'm looking at YOU Stefan Erikkson!!!), so a lot of the time they get wrecked in a car accident. Or they just end up in a big garage as a trophy piece and never get driven ever again.<_<

Considering the car was valuable from the begining I don't think I would want to drive something that rare. I mean that's just my kleptomaniac nerd in me, it's like collect baseball cards or Comic books, you know the guys who like to keep them in sealed plastic bags and in a display mounted on their wall, just to look at and never to actually read.
Same concept here.

this isn't my kind of car only because cars more than 9 years older than me aren't my thing.
but i get this. this is epic. it's a proper Bugatti. the Veyron isn't a proper bugatti IMO. May have been built in france, but there's no soul in it. there's utter precision, there is that sheer Concord moment, but Ettore's soul isn't in the Veyron.
i love the Veyron for it's german like precision, it's mix of arse-engined Punchbuggy reliability, it's "Golf @ 62MPH/100KPH" like stability at V-max, and the sheer insanity of 1000HP at a speed that not even the F1 cars can match. but for all the reasons i love the veyron, it's the same reason it's not a proper bugatti.
this 4mil classic is. and for that and that alone, it should be respected.

Wouldn't even use it there. can't get the power down compared to tarmac speed runs like Nardo and Ehra-Lessien. i wouldn't V-max it anywhere else but Ehra-Lessien

Meh, I like muscle cars better. If I had 4mil (and a license) I'd probably buy a '70 Challenger, Mustang, or a Lincoln Continental (not a muscle car, but we had a '65 and we had to sell it).

I have no clue what those are.
Also, the world record for speed on an F1 car was set at Bonneville by BMW at around 246 mph (can't remember the exact speed). And that's a recent BMW, think of what one of the V10 McLaren-Mercedes or Ferrari's could do.

you worry me.
Please don't tell me you're a Top Gear fan. you not knowing Ehra-Lessien and being a Top Gear fan doesn't work.

not much faster. all that downforce = drag. and i thought that was a modified Honda F1 car (different aero pack)
Remember, VW approached Sauber to borrow their F1 Wind tunnel for Veyron testing. Sauber said it didn't go fast enough....
