shooting people who talk at movies should be legal

 shuts the guy up by shooting him, then sits back down to watch the rest of the movie. Priceless. The reason I watch movies at home on my HDTV is because people can't learn to shut up during a movie.

The movie must have been pretty good if the guy kept watching it. Must be a hard core Brad Pitt fan.

well if this guy can shoot one guy in a theater, there are possibly a whole theater full of people I'd had have liked to shoot last night.

I'm curious... when he shot the guy, was his gun equipped with a silencer? If not, then he's just as guilty as the folks who were talking.
He should've quietly knifed the talkers in question, so that he didn't disrupt other viewers.
As for talking in theaters... eh, how the heck else can you get through an M. Night Shyamalan film? Or an Uwe Boll flick? Not that I'd ever pay theater prices to see either, but MST3King either one is practically a survival/defense mechanism.

This isn't funny, this sub human man shot a boy's father, and could have ruined the child's life.
Personally I used to wisper with my Grandpa in the movie theaters, when he was once still alive, when we once went to the movie theaters together, when I was a kid.

whisper is okay.
In one the most dramatic parts of wall-e, these guys in front of us started talking on their mobile phones. "YA SO IMA WATCHING A MOVEE RITE NOA ITS OK". Grrr.
Ps the guy who shot the other guy is ugly. Also he is a crazed retard with no social life.

Yeah, well all rhetoric and attempts at humor aside, I'm wondering what kind of person brings a gun to the theatre. Makes you think twice about the other person sometimes and how unpredictable people's actions can be.
You never can tell who you will meet in this crazy World.
What makes me frown and what I find a bit funny is that he casually sat down to watch the rest of the movie after his gunshot caused everyone in the theatre to flee for their lives. What a guy....

Looks at the place of which it happened, Philadelphia, oh is that like the LA of the east coast or something? Lot of gangs and violence?

It actually doesn't surprise me that much at all.
I've always been wary of going to the theatre in crowded, busy areas (like Detroit, etc.) because I've heard of murders taking place, muggings...all sorts of nasty things.
My mother was almost raped several years ago while using a restroom at a drive-in theatre -- and no one even attempted to help her, although she was screaming. If my father hadn't been around who knows what would have happened.
People are, generally speaking, horrible things.

I'm sure there are a lot more worse places than that. I always considered Pa a relatively nice state.

My goodness. It's very different when it hits close to home. It sounds like your experience has caused you to be desensitized...more or less. It's hard to put faith in humanity when you read about stuff like this or hear stories like yours. I'm still waiting for my faith to be restored....^_^

It could be irony...it seems that Philadelphia is latin for Brotherly Love. I'm sure it started out that way in beginning?

I'll take my movies without gunshots thank you. Cell phones and jabbering people and children are bad enough in my opinion.

Hartford Connecticut, you'll never find a more ghetto place for gangs and thievery in Connecticut at least. It's our state's capital not many people see it in the movies or on tv or on the radio, (besides people in Connecticut) and it's no different then say New York City, in it's various population.

If it's not on tv or the radio then I'm sure only you natives would know about it. I've been to parts like Danbury where houses are miles apart. I'm sure Hartford is similar to NYC with it's multicultural and varied population. I don't remember visiting there or not (Hartford) and I have to say it does surprise me. Bad spots abound...as I know SF has the famed Tenderloin and areas near Fillmore St; LA is infamous and then there are the midwest states like Detroit (as mentioned by Shiroiyuki).
It seems that saying that the vic was in the wrong place at the wrong time just isn't enough. It's usually why Christmas time is meant to be spent at home with family, relatives and friends (ideally of course).

Actually it's Greek. And the original Philadelphia - where we got the name from (Such as New York (York, England)) - is in Turkey (I knew where it was from looking at a globe once).

I see. I saw both Greek and Latin attached to the name...just picked the wrong one. It makes sense in the context though.
Of course, England's York has nothing to do with the evolution of the attitude of NYC. That would be a whole different beast, so to speak. The same I feel for Philadelphia as it seems to be one of those things where the name was used for that city in order to promote good relations among its citizens. Using the story as an example, it is safe to say that the ideology is much different than the reality.
Interesting fact about the original being in Turkey.
I wonder if theatres will start patting people down as a result....wouldn't that be something.

Have you taken US history? In the end, a name is simply an idealistic label, that doesn't speak for the literal in anyway at all.

Maybe I should use emoticons more so people would see the humor in my posts. Good effort on your part though even though it is a bit of an over-generalized explanation. Notice how I used the word irony in my quoted response? It was in response to Kenpachi's question.
UTOPIA is the idealistic label that comes to mind for me. Although people's personal definitions of that state vary based on respective personality types.
That guy's Utopia must have been the empty theatre...literally. :naughty:

I had thought Philly had become safer over the years, seems like it hasn't. There's very bad parts in Mexico City where you'd be an idiot to get inside alone at night (I've sure been to a lot of those places but I've always come out fine). However, you can decently safely enter even the baddest parts of the city during the day. They say the Doctores is one of the top 3 most dangerous places in the city and I used to go there alone everyday at weird hours and I've never had any problems. People think I have some of the craziest luck in the world. A few months ago I was insanely close to being run over by a minivan going at over 60 mph because I stupidly crossed a street without looking (I never really look when I cross busy streets, people think I'm insane).
I talk A LOT during movies, but I always sit in one of the front rows because I don't like being with the chusma people and my myopia doesn't let me read the subtitles very well if I sit farther back. I obviously speak english so I have no real need to read the subs, but I've gotten into the habit of reading subs while listening to the movie. For some reason people never sit in the front rows in my city so I can chatter and insult how crappy a movie is with no problems. I also like to make fun of poorly subbed movies.

I would never expect any city to be safe ever, that's just not the way our civilization works in our time.Alway be on your guard, even if you think there's a time for peace. The city is an ethnic jungle, and the wild animals are always on the prowl.

Well, as a resident of Philadelphia where this unfortunate incident happened, I have to say I'm actually surprised it took this long for something like that to happen here, given the ongoing nightmare of gun violence in this city. Sure, I have no patience for people who talk during movies, but this was too extreme in terms of retaliation. And for that nutcase to have resumed watching the movie after shooting someone tells me he's seriously unhinged. Another reason I don't much go to movies anymore.
