Bartholomew Kuma and other Questions (spoiler)

When Kuma first appears in Thriller Bark, he asks Nami if Luffy had a brother.

1) Is there a reason Kuma wouldn't ask Garp, since he is a Vice Admiral?

2) Is it common knowledge among the Marines that Garp is Luffy's Grandson and also Dragon's father?

1. Kuma already knows they are brothers, he was asking partly to confirm and partly because it is conversation filler. He is visiting Luffy to tell him Ace lost against Blackbeard. He's acting as a messenger.

2. Apparently not. When it was revealed, everyone including Luffy's crew and the 20 or so marines with Garp were in complete shock to have found that out. It is most likely common knowledge now since word spreads very fast in Oda's world.

Interesting. I stopped at episode 371 but it seems like Kuma was there primarily to let Gecko Moria know about the decision to nominate Blackbeard into the Shichibukai.

Yeah, I knew the crew was unaware, just didn't know if the marines knew about it.
