He fought Shamrock, right? I heard something about that on another forum. That didn't go the way I expected at all.

I'm interested in all that but I never get around to watching it.

No, Shamrock got the axe because of a cut he sustained during warm-up training. Seth Petruzelli replaced him and beat Kimbo within 15 seconds.

Holy Moly. That was fast. Kimbo didn't even try to guard his face and it cost him huh?

The only people Kimbo has fought so far have been old washed up guys past their prime, and Ken Shamrock would have been no exception to that. He fights someone still young, and with a positive record, and he walks right into a counter punch, then fails to guard himself.

"Kimbo has no slice" LMAO  those announcers suck bad.
Such a weak *** fight, how can you run into such a lame jab and he was hardly getting pounded on the ground if pinky landed anything solid at all.
I'm a fan of watching Kimbo's brawl fest but that was embarassing.

I laughed out loud at them calling this a huge upset or whatever. Clay vs. Liston was an upset. This isn't an upset.

I have only one thing to say:

Boxing > MMA.

14 seconds only?

His reputation may have preceded him. He's still a tough dude nonetheless.

Kimbo is just a thug who finally got his *** handed to him. I'm sorry but I never understood why he was so popular. He's all strength and no talent.

It's not like he's portrayed any notable feats of strength to even give that to him.

I wasn't rooting for him to lose, though. Some people get inexplicably riled up over personalities and arrogant displays, and the business capitalizes on this by creating fake WWE drama, like Ken Shamrock shoving Kimbo at the weigh-in. I just care about the best man standing.

I second that. I still watch friday night fights pretty regularly.

I find MMA more entertaining. The problem I have though is the sloppiness of it's fighters. There's a lot of opportunity to improve certain things.

Boxing, which I don't really keep up with, has fighters with better technique. Crisp, clean shots that have a purpose and destination.

Even so, I am more apt to watch UFC over boxing because of the integration of grappling and ju-jitsu (jutsu). Ground fighting has always been an interesting subject for me and almost makes me nostalgic.

I don't think thats fake WWE drama. Shamrock seems to have a pretty short fuse and it doesn't take much to set him off (as seen with Tito Ortiz driving him batty and then beating him senseless in the cage)

It's harder to be a pure striker and get incredible punches out like you can in boxing because in MMA you have to be wary of kicks and takedowns. Boxers have nothing to worry about except punches, thus they can maximize all their effort into making their punches as crisp as they can be. This is really why Kimbo isn't very good in MMA, he doesn't really have any skills besides a punch.

Boxing is more entertaining to me because fights last longer, and I'm not a huge fan of grappling.

What kind of ***** victory is that?

I do. If people didn't eat this stuff up, incidents like that wouldn't occur. Did you seriously believe that Ken went from harboring personal contempt and vitriol to appreciation and respect after the last Tito fight? "Oh, he just beat my face up amidst an unimpressive showing on my part devoid of decent action or performance. Now my emotions have been quelled and I have been broken from my spell of anger. Thank you!"

It amazes me the persona that Ken cultivated with Vince McMahon is seen as how Ken actually is as a person, yet people continue to fall for that fake garbage. I miss PRIDE for this exact reason, since there was no theatrical presentation, but Affliction seems like an alternative.

Just like every other sport, the rules are what they are. TKO is still a victory.

That's where the Mixed is supposed to come into play. Boxing develops good good upper body coordination as well as the footwork. However, it is only limited to the hands. It would be logical that this would carry over into the realm of MMA because they get to mix it up. Instead, it comes out as diluted for the most part. Integrating kicks and takedowns might be a problem for some but it just comes out sloppy, for the most part. There are some exceptional all round fighters but that is far and few in my opinion.

I couldn't get into watching boxing. My focus gets lost and the longer fights don't help either. Personal preferences are what they are and I can understand the appeal it has for people. Grappling is very intricate...difficult to imitate without having done some training. Stand up fighting and striking (kicks included) is, which we can agree, always fun to watch. Ground fighting, although NOT the end all beat all of techniques, is something that I never get tired of watching.

Kimbo had a bad*** reputation before he came onto the MMA scene. Street brawling and the such may have a certain intrinsic value but he just may need to buckle down and work on more technique oriented types of training. I wanted to see how developed his ground game was but I guess it will have to wait for the next fight.
