I had a friend turn his knee backwards once. It was one of the more horrific things I've ever witnessed personally.
I'm glad I didn't click the video link.

Liveleak had a video of it earlier but now its removed. It was a shame because the aussie commentary (Got to love thoese Aussies) and the horror of the audience really added entertainment value. Btw,your not Hungarian are you? My condolences, that was your only weightlifter...

Maybe the guy was just trying to lift more than he could handle? Well hopefully the guy will have a speeding recovery.

What I want to know is why his elbows were locked...I always heard that was a big no-no with any kind of weight lifting.

They should make a milk commercial using that.

That is so evil, but yet so brilliant.

Reminds me of the time I dislocated my knee. Made a loud POP sound that could be heard throughout the building. Ouch!....

His grip was way, way too wide, which contraindicates the wrist and elbow's ability to keep in sync. That's a six-foot Olympic bar, and his hands were nearly touching the weight collars. A lot of times, on heavy lifts, you'll unknowingly adopt too wide a stance because it gives you more stability, balance-wise.
What I want to know is why his elbows were locked...I always heard that was a big no-no with any kind of weight lifting.
No. The "lockout" is an integral phase of the lift. That mostly just applies to people who hyperextend their knees on leg extensions.

The picture on the OP was kinda funny despite the fact it's not that cool to have happen to you.

Is this one of those things where it's like, he'll never be able to compete again because of an injury? I hope not.

Janos Baranyai of Hungary is recovering well after dislocating his elbow at the Beijing Olympics weightlifting competition and should be able to resume his career, the International Weightlifting Federaion chief said Friday.
The 24 year-old tore his right elbow joint while making a snatch attempt at 148kg in the 77kg division contest on Wednesday, sparking fears that he would not be able to lift again.
"There is no fracture, just dislocation of two bones," IWF chief Tamas Ajan told a news conference.
He said Baranyai was expected to leave the hospital and return to the athletes' village, "and we hope that in three to four months he can continue to lift weights."

it's all fun and games till someone loses their grip.
Honestly I try to imagine how the guy feels, I don't think it's funny at all, I think it hurts like hell, no matter how tough of a hard *** you are that's got to feel really unpleasant.
