Hello, I'm looking for survival horror type books. It doesn't really have to be horror though thats a big selling point. I loved the resident evil books and lord of the flies was good if a little short. If you have seen the film the thing then anything like that in book form would be great.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Long_Walk The long walk by stephen king (under the pen name Richard Bachman [sic]) is right up your alley, even though nothing about it is exceptionally supernatural, it's extremley realisitc in my opinion, but it has the kind of feeling you want.
Stephen King's Cujo was kind of like that too, except this time their car breaks down during a heat wave and they can't escape due to a giant rabid dog.

^ The Long Walk is a killer book. It's not perfect as it drags on a bit, as you might expect from something that is essentially based around walking, but it is very entertaining. I just couldn't put it down. The premise is great and there's plenty of suspense. As you might expect from Stephen King, the ending is lackluster but it's still a very good book. I'd recommend it too.
I like to imagine that The Long Walk and Battle Royale take place in the same world. Fascist Japan has their program and America has their long walk.

Oh and battle royale would fit what the OP wants too, assuming the book is like the movie or the comic book (and the comic was great before the dragon ball Z style ki fight)

The book is a little more realistic. I liked the book more, maybe because I could imagine it in a way that I thought was cool. Either way, they are all good.

Yeah that was stupid. I still think the manga was grand though, even after Kiriyama turned into a floppy version of the liquid assassin robot from Terminator 2.
Have you read World War Z? It's a collection of accounts from a world wide zombie outbreak. It's a great book.

Battle Royale is a book? Awesome. I always assumed it was only a manga. I'll definitely check out The Long Walk as soon as i finish a few more books i have backlogged.
