While it's not actually anime or game music, that's one of it's most well known uses. Vocaloid is a voice synthesizing program originally in Japanese. search youtube and there are plenty of videos dealing with it, not to mention the mascot Hatsune Miku (which is made of the sounds for "first" "sound" "future") who is a real cutie, especially with a leek in her hand.

I've recently fallen into the Vocaloid fandom and so far, I'm in love! I've been keeping up with the weekly rankings and everything. LOL As for my favorite one, it would definitely be KAITO, with Len and Miku being tied for second. I'm not as fond of Rin and MEIKO, but still enjoy most of their songs.

Does anyone know what skills do you gotta have to make your own music in Vocaloid?
tenshi_a
June 8th, 2009, 09:33 AM
^ dunno. I presume midi sequencing skills, an ear for pitch, and the ability to read Japanese.
This is brilliant! It's KAITO "singing" Yuusha Reideen, and it's a brilliant impersonation of Masato Shimon! :D

I have no idea how anyone can program vocaloid to impersonate singers. It's a great display of skill!

That's incredible! It's got so many of the same qualities that made the original performance distinctive. It's not a perfect impersonation, but it's very effective. Whoever did this is incredibly skilled and really understands music.

I recently founded some really cool Vocaloid (mostly Miku ones) videos on Youtube and I find them awesome.
This one is pretty frantic but I really like it. Miku is awesome in it, I believe the title translates to 'Take it Easy' :
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7R1fs3PnX9M
There's this one with awesome animation style:
Love is War
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dcI7-MeyLX0
'Nebula', in pretty high quality animation:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A5tgZim3Kkg
and I also like 'Honey' featuring all the Vocaloids:

Sorry if any of those have been posted but I can't get Nicovideo to work :p

It's strange, Hatsune Miku doesn't sound quite as off-key when she's singing opera.
It's fun to hear someone make her sing in such a radically different style, and hey, it's easier to work out what she's singing than it is with most proper opera singers, hehe. :P

Hey, her German is pretty good. :P
Apparently, recently, 'Miku' had a live concert... that is to say they prepared an actual concert venue and somehow projected her onto the stage via some sort of holographic cgi wizardry.
I rather hope then named it Mikuros Plus.
Actually it was "Miku's Day" ...all the videos are already off Youtube.

When listening to that I had one of those feelings... "Wow, it's really 2010 and I am living in the future!" Having a concert like this really brings home that Macross Plus feeling.
So is that Miku... some oddly proportioned dancer in an animated robot Miku mask, or... what? How? I was actually surprised to see a Hatsune Miku on stage that's really... well, it's Hatsune Miku! :w00t:

They have 3D projector technology these days that can be used. Gorillaz has done it before, and American Idol even did it once to have a duet between one of their competitors and Elvis on stage.

Yeah, I saw a production of the musical War Of The Worlds (on TV) where the narrator was a huge 3D animated head (of Richard Burton) floating in the sky, and a video (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QAfgarsODf0) of X Japan playing live on stage with their ex-member Hide who's been dead for several years.
Is this definitely what they've used? I've never seen a hologram that danced across a stage so much. I'm really impressed! The technology's come a long way! ^_^
This live vocaloid song is just... mental. It's like they're dancing to a data stream.

I'm still not a ig fan of pop music, Japanese or otherwise. They need to make rock stars with the software! And bands! I know there are software that can "play" with live musicians.

I already done bought that Megurine Luka and made a song (http://soundcloud.com/renzu/robogirl-megurine-luka) with it. It's the Vocaloid Character Series that has an alternate English sample bank, which in effect gives you a heavily Japanese-accented singer... lol
