I'm currently building a new computer and have been out of the loop for a few years since I last built my current one.
I'm looking at video cards for a PCI Express slot, if my motherboard is PCI Express x16, are PCI Express 2.0 x16 video cards compatible?

Yes, They are Backwards compatible with PCI-Express v1.x x16 Motherboards. I installed a Geforce 8800GTS (G92, PCI-e 2.0 x16) card not too long ago and it works great:D.

Wait till the end of June to buy a vidcard, nVidia and ATI are releasing their next-gen cards in a few weeks. Awesome stuff!...

While I can't fathom spending more than $100 on a video card (seriously, highway robbery), this is sound advice for any electronic equipment. When the new cards are released, the previous models drop ridiculously.

Chipsets. nVidia and ATI don't make actual video cards.
And that's a bad suggestion, considering the prices will be $600+ just to play Crysis, when older and cheaper cards will play everything else on high settings.

EVGA is Nvidia's internal brand with its own manufacturing facilities, and ATI uses AMD's fab network to reduce cost and increase yields.

For anyone looking to pick-up a new video card i suggest getting an 8800 GT which you can get for around 200 dollars, Its the best performance to price Ratio card on the market right now.
