Rahxephon: I have Questions

Watched Rahxephon a while ago. Good show, basically an eva ripoff that actually did it right. Probably best dub ever too. Only problem is, the show made absolutely no sense to me, and I can't find a comprehensive synopsis or analysis anywhere.

Anyway, I just have some questions for other people who finished the show about what the characters are and how they're realated. Ayato's family tree is a little convoluted.

It's been a while since I watched it all in one sitting so don't take everything as 100% accurate. Plus I've forgoetten some stuff and some of the symbolism is just there for style I tihnk more than any particular reason. Either that or a reference to Aztec culture(as are many references in this show) that I'm not familiar with


* What is RahXephon? something created for the Ollin to re-tune(re-write basically) the world
* What is the major conflict in RahXephon? Mu vs Humans
* Who are the Mu? aliens pretty much, I don't think they state exactly where they came from
* What is the significance of the color blue in this show? I think it's just to show the difference
* Who is Ayato? Son of Maya
* What is Ayato? an Ollin, otherwise IIRC he's half human/mu
* Who is related to Ayato? Maya, TERRA commander(eyepatch guy, forget his name), Rikudo(not by blood, he just raised Maya)
* How? Mom, Dad, Gramps(again, not by blood)
* How are all the characters related to Ayato? Haruka is "Reika", but the real Reika that was outside of tokyo when the tokyo Jupiter incident happened. That's why she's alot older than him. Most of the rest the only just met the first time in the show.
* Who is Ayato's mom? Maya, queen? of the mu
* Is Ayato's mom really his mom? yes
* Is Ayato a pimp? yes :lol:
* What is the RahXephon? You asked this already
* What is the Rah? Nothing, I think it's just added to Xephon when it's awake or being used or something?
* What is the Xephon? I believe it's just the name of the machine/thing itself
* What is that Egg? which one? IIRC the image of an egg was used ALOT.
* What is the Jupiter Phenominon? It's that Jupiter looking thing that distorts time and space. I forget what other detials there are on it.
* What or Who is Quon? Another Ollin and a Mu, I THINK she's technically Maya's sister or something? She was the other girl who was found at the shrine or whatever it was years ago, Rikudo talks about it.
* What is "Olun"? Ollin* IIRC refering to the user of RahXephon
* Who is Kunugi? The guy in charge of the TERRA base where the story takes place, not the head guy of TERRA though.
* How is he related? As stated above.
* Who is Sayoko? a spy for Ishiki Makoto
* What the hell is her problem? She's just emotional about everything, I don't think it's significant.
* Why is she so emotional all the time? She just is
* What is Sayoko? Human
* What is Ishiki? Bahbem created him, Itsuki, and Helena to be Ollin or something I think.
* Who is Ishiki? as above
* Who and What are Helena and Itsuki? as above, I think Itsuki is based on Ayato or maybe his mother? Itsuki mentions being exactly like him and yet not getting anything(For example being able to pilot RahXephon and Haruka loving Ayato over Itsuki) or something like that
* Who is Barbem? some crazy dude who came up with this plan and is basically the cause for alot of the series. I'm not certain beyond that.
* What is Barbem? Human originally. somehow he implatned his mind in Helena's body, I'm not clear on how that happened, or I just forgot.
* How old is Barbem? His original body is long gone I think, his mind is hundreds of years old easily.
* How many RahXephons are there? 2, the ones you see at the end of the show.
* What are the D's? I don't even remember this.
* What is Dolem? those huge monster things Ayato fights, they're like physical projections of a Mu I think, since if a DOlem dies the pilot Mu does too.
* What is the objective of the Mu? I can't remember
* Why do they all fight? well the humans shuold be obvious, so they aren't killed.
* What the hell happened in the ending? Ayato won the fight and re-wrote time for Earth I believe. As evidenced by an older Ayato(looking like Itsuki further making me think Itsuki was based on Ayato), older Haruka and their kid.
* What was Ayato's objective in the whole show? Originally to help fight the threat of the Mu. Basically it turned into doing what he could to protect haruka
* What was anyone's objective in the whole show? This is way to general of a questions, Most poeple didnt' have some "hidden agenda" or anything, they were just trying to fight for their own race.

Also there's actually ALOT of information in the booklets that ADV packed with the DVD's if you haven't read them yet.

Oh and also, there's a RahXephon specific forum, look harder =P

wow, that's a lot of questions! i only watched the show once along time ago so i can't really help you but coincidently, i was going to watch the movie version tomorrow. maybe i'll have something then.

i thought "Rah" meant king or god. Rah Xephon = #1 giant monster thing

that giant cloud/shell/whatever that covers Tokyo (and looks like the surface of Jupiter). like Gasaraki explained, it caused the time distortion between the city and the rest of the world (what was it, 15 years difference?)

* What is Bähbem? Mulian but has clone bodies of his original
* How old is Bähbem? Really old
* How many RahXephons are there? Two
* What are the D's? Dolems, Designer's children like Isshiki
* What is Dolem? They are like golem
* What is the objective of the Mu? Bähbem F-ed up there world and they are trying to take over earth
* Why do they all fight? ^
* What the hell happened in the ending? Ayato destroyed everything so he can start all over from scratch. No Tokyo incident so everyone lives like it didn't happen.
* What was Ayato's objective in the whole show? To tune the world

* Who are the Mu?

They are human too. It's just that they have a genetic mutation that gives them blue blood. In some people it also seems to trigger mental unstability, but I don't know about that.


* Who is Ayato?
* What is Ayato?

In the TV series: He is the genetic son of Quon and the pirate-looking guy. Maya is his aunt. We don't know who carried him in her womb. Ayato - and his twin brother Itsuki - were born to be instrumentalists.

* Who is related to Ayato?

Pretty much everyone

* How?

By birth or by adoption. See the website above for details. There is also a guide book with a relationship chart, but it's incomplete because it's on purpose only supposed to cover the first 14 episodes or so.

* Who is Ayato's mom?

Maya is the leader of the Mu in Tokyo and she might the leader of all the Mu. In the manga she takes over the Mu in a coup. In the TV series she came to be in charge because she was the only Mu other than Bahbem who was active on our side of the great split.

* Is Ayato's mom really his mom?

In the TV series she's his adoptive mom, but biological aunt, and she loves him.
In the movie she's his biological mom and gave birth to him himself, and she loves him.
In the manga he was grown in tanks of Gowa/Rei/clone trooper tanks and she doesn't care about him.

* Is Ayato a pimp?

No. Girls just naturally fall into his arms.
Souichi might be a pimp. Isshiki and Itsuki totally are, in my opinion.

* What are the D's?

It's a rating of instrumentalist. All the D's we see are clones of Bahbem, but there could be other D rated instrumentalists who were not his clones.

No the end doesn't leave you hanging at all. I thought it was a very satisfying ending.

Having everything make sense in the end is one of the advantages of having a mostly pre-planned story.
